Aardweni coin is based upon a pound of sterling silver, or, in Vitaen numbers, 0.450 kilograms. Current estimates are in accordance of royal decree of year 1158 After Exodus.

Copper Pence

The lowest denomination is that of the pence, the singular unit being a copper penny. Pennies are round disks, roughly the size of a thumb with the image of Dyeus God of Sky and Oaths etched upon them. Common coppers come in two forms, penny and half-penny. Half-pennies are used by the masses to purchase small amounts of spices and treats such as sugar-rods.

Silver pennies may also be found, though they date back to Kind-King Frankenhem's Blessed Reign. Silver pennies are still used in the capital in regularity, counting as twenty normal copper pence. They weigh less than a shilling, and so are used in its place.

Iron Shillings

Next comes the shilling, the preferred method of paying serfs and unskilled labor such as farming and middling blacksmithing. A shilling is a miniscule bar of iron with the symbol of Oriath and of Daedulus stamped on them in alternating sides. They come in shill and half-shill varieties, half-shills being commongly used to buy small metal tools such as cheap knifes and the like. A single shill equals twenty pence, also equivalent to a single silver penny prefered by noblity.

Silver Talentts

Silver talents are round in shape and are the prefered method of buying quality tools for craftmanship or arms of war. They may be found in many forms, the lowest being the silver quarter-bit. A full silver bit is a sliver of a full talent, an eighth, much like a piece of pie. Quarter-bits are minted in times of war and strife to adapt to the shifts of commerce. After a full bit comes the half or haft. These are half a talent, being cut in half as well.

Silver talents are used by merchants and nobility, and as such, are called Nobles, rounds, or noble rounds. A full talent equals eight bits; or three and a half shills; or seventy pence.

Gold Crowns

These are the coins of prestige and of the higher echelons of Aardweni society. They are devided into sevenths, with each sliver being stamped with the likeness of a God of the Seven-Fold Faith. Crowns are found more commonly as septims, sevenths. A single septim is close to half a full pound of gold as they are quite thick and heavy. The coin-purses of high-brow nobility are heavy not because of quantity, but of quality.

Crowns may also be found as half-crowns, equaling four-fifths of a pound. A full crown equals one pound and a half of sterling silver in the treasury of the Aardweni Kingdom. A half-crown equals one pound of silver in the treasury; or seventy talents; or two-hundred-and-forty shillings; or four-thousand-and-eight-hundred pence.

Quick Conversion.
