《The Legend of the North》chapter 120

Lyaria walks quickly and steadily, but her eyes express remorse for something she's going to do knowing it's wrong. However, understands that not everything in the world can be achieved in an honest way, as Grige does. She can't help but laugh wryly at the realization that he may not be that different from herself.

Lyaria opens the front door of the cabin after knocking to announce herself, but she doesn't wait for an answer and goes inside. Everything was in the same place as it was a few minutes ago, just like the coins inside the untouched leather bag.

"I don't need more time to think. The answer is no.” Bottle in hand, Lignar speaks in a sharp, strong voice.

“I heard what happened to your son, it may not mean much, but I'm sorry for his loss.” Lyaria approaches and sits in front of the man without him stopping her.

"Tsk... Grige told you everything, didn't he?" Lignar launches a rhetorical question, then takes a long drink from the nearly empty bottle.

"I know that money is not reason enough for you to help me... Isn't there something you want? If it is in my hands, I will do my best to fulfill it.” Lyaria leans forward, making it clear she wasn't going to back down.

"Heh! Whatever? So... one night alone with your body.” With a difficult expression to understand, Lignar takes another drink until the bottle is empty.

“.........” Never did Lyaria take her eyes off the man's and she wasn't surprised by the daring desire either, she knew he wasn't serious.

“...Ahhhh.... No, there's nothing miss. Only if you could bring back the dead, that would be the only wish, it would bring me back to life…” The former fisherman and current carpenter starts to get up from his chair, but is stopped by Lyaria's next words.

“I can do it! I can revive the son of your memories.” The voice and expression of the young woman in front of Lignar showed that she was serious and this makes his throat gulp in an attempt to respond.

"Wha-what? It's possible?”

Lignar can barely understand what he just heard and asks reflexively, but thinking again about the absurdity of the idea, his mind clears and a strong anger begins to grow inside him. No matter how seriously the young woman in front of him spoke, it couldn't be true.

"Listen Miss... If you think I'm going to listen to stupid rites and fake voices... You're wrong! I will not take you to the sea for false promises!” The carpenter's voice begins to rise in pitch and culminates in a scream after taking a deep breath. "Now get out of my home before my fury wins over my chivalry!!!"

Lyaria continues to sit while the man gets up from his, yelling at her to leave, she never breaks eye contact waiting for the right moment to act. Once Lignar's emotions are at their peak, she concentrates as her eyes take on an irresistible force of attraction for anyone who sees those bright blue eyes. Before the man knew it, he was already trapped in his memories reflected in Lyaria's eyes.

Suddenly, the floorboards of the cottage transform into the deck of a small ship that is shaken by stormy waves, strong winds hit the face of a rejuvenated Lignar entangling his hair. However, the feeling of freedom soon ends when a hail of arrows makes him come to his senses and pay attention to the people who were running for shelter, one of them was his son whose face could not be seen. Lignar tries to scream, to warn him, to see his face once more and remember the details his senile mind had long forgotten, though none of this is possible, as no sound comes from his mouth.

He is sure that tears run down his cheek even though none flowed from his eyes, despair piles in his mind knowing what would happen next and yet his body does not move. Before the arrow hits his son's body, the memory ends and Lignar stands with his eyes blurred with tears.

" ...I-it's all I can do...for now." Lyaria speaks while pressing both eyes with her fingers and trying to control her rapid breathing, it was clear that what she did had repercussions on her.

“...........” Lignar continues to stand for several minutes and only sits back down when his tears stop falling and Lyaria's constitution improves.

“Strong emotions weaken the mind, unfortunately I can only bring your son back in the memories that left the greatest impression on you.”

"Is this what you meant by bringing him back? Relive my worst memories?”

“Not exactly, it's not easy to do it correctly since bad memories tend to prevail over good ones, and in your case this is greater. However, if the good wins out over the bad... I'm sure you'll be able to see your son's face once more.” Lyaria speaks softly and bitterly, she knew very well that it was a touchy subject and she had relived the worst of it.

"And how do I accomplish that?" Lignar asks with a dry and sharp voice, it was clear that this day was too hectic for his repressed emotions for so many years.

“Remembering the good times, positive emotions or getting over his death...”

“I spent half my life in the sea just like my son, it is natural that almost all my memories are there. Coincidence that it's the same place you want to go, miss.” The exhausted carpenter lifts his head and shoots a look that Lyaria can't bear with guilt.

“It's your decision.”

"Will I be able to see my son's face?"

“Take it for granted.” Lyaria hides the hint of doubt and answers firmly.

"Then leave me alone for a while, I have a lot to think about."

Lyaria nods and hurries to the door, searching desperately for the cold sea air. However, before she crosses the threshold, Lignar addresses her one last time.

“You don’t deserve thanks for what you did, the ambition behind it obscures all good will. I recommend that in the future you do not reopen people's wounded hearts, sooner or later you will get used to it and you will not hesitate to do it to get what you want. If that time comes, miss, you will become the incarnation of the witches that are told in the stories. Keep it in mind.” Lyaria nods bitterly again and leaves with a sour face.
