《The Game of Gods》Book 5 – Chapter 20 - Part 1

After a half night’s sleep, and all the hours in between. The insights he had received from Gaia felt as though they had finally settled into place inside his mind. Though they were now useless for retrieving his parents, they would be helpful for this endeavor.
Charles started by cutting the tips off each of the tines and heating them up. Just cutting through a small part of the metal took longer than it should have, but he managed and soon had four glowing spheres floating above his hand. He’d had to cut an extra piece from one of the tines for the fourth ring.
His metal element helped him to shape each piece into the desired shape, while his fire magic kept them hot. Even as he was working the metal, he was wondering if there was another item that would be better. Something like a bracelet or a necklace?
He knew that Gaia had given Kate’s group some enchanted items that had certain restrictions on them. What he was making would undoubtedly interfere with some of them if they got too close. He tried to remember what she had told him about how they worked. It was something about the strength of the enchantment that determined how close the rest could be, he thought.
If that was the case, then a bracelet might actually be the best choice. People typically only wore one bracelet or armband per arm, but they could fit on a number of rings or charms to a necklace. Besides, now that he thought about it a little more, giving a ring to a little girl like Myri was just asking for it to be lost.
Charles cut off some more metal and added them to each of the four rings, widening them as he did so. He would add all the pretty little details to them later, after he had finished with the enchantments. He would need to make sure he had the correct size for their wrists first.
That was one trick from TV shows and games he couldn’t replicate. He had no idea how to go about getting the bracelets to resize automatically. This wouldn’t be the only time he would be making them for Myri and Silvi. The two girls would grow out of them soon enough and he would need to make new ones for them.
All Charles could do was shrug at that, he figured that was the price you paid for having kids.

Charles reached out and took a firm hold on the largest bracelet, the one meant for him, with his metal element. The glowing metal drifted closer to his face while he concentrated on what he wanted to happen. This was where creating them with enchantments instead of runes really began to shine. It provided him with a lot more versatility in what he could do.
The concept of traveling through spatial openings mixed with the instant teleport that was ‘Blink’ to create something new. He held those firm in his mind while he laid out what he wanted the enchantment to do.
It needed to take the wearer to their choice among the other linked devices, and they would need to select one. There was no way for him to simply designate one as the lead. These were meant to be used in an emergency. That would be pointless if he was designated as the lead, and they teleported to him while he was in a fight.
Having everyone decide on their own was a needed measure for now. It also meant that for these to remain viable the number of linked devices would always need to remain somewhat small.
When he was sure he had everything covered, he pushed the ideas into the metal bracelet. He was forcing it to accept the spell and concepts behind it. A lesser metal would have cracked and broken under the pressure. The metal from the trident on the hand held up wonderfully.
A series of fractal patterns spread throughout the bracelet as the enchantment took hold. He glared at the pattern for a moment, feeling a loss of mana as he finished the activity. With those fractals there, he wouldn’t be able to resize the bracelet or include other cute little details for the girls.
He would need to rethink his plan about how he was going to make them now.
He waited a few moments for the metal to cool and then slipped it onto his wrist.
Congratulations, you have created a ‘Bracelet of Instant Teleportation’. The enchantment is tied to the user-specific design on the outside. As long as the design lasts, so will the enchantment.
There are currently no other linked bracelets. (None)
The bracelet visibly shrank just a smidge to better fit his wrist and then stayed in place.
Well, that took care of one of the problems he had been worried about. Charles read the message again. Actually, it might have taken care of two of them. It said ‘user-specific design’, which meant the fractals were because of him. If he had been creating the bracelet for someone else, then another design might have very well appeared.

Well, there was only one way to know for sure.
Charles focused on the concept and what he wanted to have happen again. This time holding the idea that the bracelet was for Kira in his mind as he pushed the ephemeral thoughts into the metal. He had no idea how it worked, but it did.
He wasn’t even sure how he had known that he could create them this way. Whether it was something extra from Gaia’s insights or simply a stray insight leftover from when he had fully activated his divinity. Regardless, the thought had made sense at the time. Not to mention it was working, and well at that.
Some things were just destined to remain a mystery.
Gears and sprockets began to appear on the outside of the bracelet. At the top was a single wrench turning a bolt, laying beside it was what looked like a pair of goggles and a welding rig. Spread around everything were portraits of their family and engine parts he couldn’t name. It had elements of the mechanic he loved in it, but also had a steampunk vibe to it that he found interesting.
He already knew it would shrink to fit her wrist, so he didn’t need to worry about resizing it anymore. Instead, after it finished cooling, he held it against his and mentally agreed to the screen that popped up. It was now linked to his bracelet, and in turn, Kira’s name had appeared on the list of linked bracelets.
After seeing how cool hers looked, he was really annoyed that all he got was fractals. What did that say about him and his personality?
Moving onto Alli’s or rather Silvi’s, since she would be wearing it in her human form, he saw person after person form around the circle. The details came next. At the top where she could easily see them were Charles, Myriam, and Kira. Then came the rest of their slowly growing family. Even his parents and grandparents, who she had just met, made an appearance.
He had to admit, that made him more than a little emotional. He had already decided that there was something guiding these designs, a force greater than him in this instance. Maybe it was Gaia, but he doubted it. Either way, knowing that Silvi loved everyone was such an inspiration to him at times. There was a reason he called her his conscience.
Lovingly, he set her bracelet to the side and began on Myri’s.
Unlike Alli’s, her bracelet wasn’t full of people. Instead, there were only a few large ones at the top, and then a few around the edge. At the top, in the position of prime importance, was, of course, Alli, in both her forms. Next to her on each side stood Charles and Kira, and beside them were two people he had never seen before. However, judging by the resemblance, it wasn’t hard to figure out they were her parents. Two people he had never met before, and wouldn’t have been able to include on his own.
Next came Kory, Krystal, Charlotte, Scott, Kate, Beth, and Inara around the edges. That was it. Those were all the people she seemed to consider worthy of including. It made him a little sad that her world of loved ones was so small. That was something they would need to fix in the future.
Charles made sure each of them was linked to his own and then set them to the side. He hadn’t had a mental workout like that in a while, making those four bracelets had been tiring. They had taken more mental energy to create than he had realized.
At least now that he was done with them, he could take a rest. He glanced at the clock and shook his head. It was a little after eight in the morning. Creating them had taken longer than he realized.
There would be no rest for him. He needed to get to work on breakfast and then shuttle everyone on down to Dungeonville for Christmas.
Kira was already up and working on breakfast when he got back to their small apartment. Myri had her arms sprawled across the top of the table watching her, while Silvi could be heard taking a shower.
Kira cocked her head curiously, and he nodded with a slight smile.
“Kira said you went off to get some awesome presents for me and Silvi. Is that true?” Myri wasted no time in asking about her possible present.
He nodded. “Not just you two, I actually got one for her and myself actually while I was at it.”
“Can I have it now?” She asked shyly.
