《How I Became A Jarl》One Chance pt. 2

When I opened my eyes I was lying on the bottom of the sea in darkness. I couldn’t even see Connor’s body. The light appeared right in front of me and when I reached it and grabbed I pulled out two long daggers with a green handle and partially gold blade. When I grabbed them I felt a surge of power through my whole body. Moving under the water wasn’t as hard as earlier. I jumped and swum toward the surface. With this power, I easily got out.
Just now I saw how many monsters are there on the island besides that big one. Some looked like dogs, some almost like humans if not for their fish-like heads and different skin. A few of those human-shaped monsters surrounded something. With help of those daggers, not only my physical capabilities were boosted but my senses too. I was able to see a person lying there and he was breathing very hard.
With swift few attacks, I killed them all even the small ones on the way. One of them started growing or rather expanding like he was going to explode so I kicked him away. He flew further than I expected. As he exploded he killed a few other monsters. The person lying on the ground was Tae covered in blood and scratches from those monsters. I dropped the daggers and kneeled by him.
[ Eric ]
“Hey! Hey! You’re not dead right?!”
[ Tae ]
“Don’t think so…” Said Tae as he coughed blood.
[ Eric ]
“At least for now. You need to heal yourself. Do you have any herbs on you?” I asked as I searched his pockets.
[ Tae ]
“No… Eric?”
[ Eric ]
“Yes? What is it?”
[ Tae ]
“I can’t feel anything…”
[ Eric ]
“You definitely need healing! Right now!”
[ Tae ]
“But I don’t have any herbs… and I don’t have strength or time to get one.”
[ Eric ]

“Use me! Use some of my energy to heal yourself!” I tightly grabbed Tae’s hand. “Here. Take some… please… Don’t leave me here yet…”
Earlier I felt like Tae was holding my hand but he wasn’t doing that any longer. I picked up my daggers and blindly walked toward the village. The first few buildings were damaged, and the market was covered in blood with bodies lying almost everywhere. A few monsters were gathering all bodies into one pile. When they noticed me they jumped on me. I sliced them into many small pieces.
[ Eric ]
“Just drop dead you pile of shit…”
I heard screams coming from the forest. Looks like most people were running toward the mountain. There was a straight path of destroyed trees. Only one of the monsters could do that… One tree there was blood splashed over it and under it, there were only someone’s legs. He probably sacrificed himself for others.
[ Eric ]
“Rest in peace… or should I say… feast in Valhalla.”
When I got close to the mountain I saw a long crowd of monsters walking on the path and hundreds of them climbing the wall. The big one was in the middle of this crowd and in front of them, people were running away from them. Guards were trying their best to defend people but they were clearly exhausted.
[ Young Girl ]
“AAAAAAAA!!! HELP ME!” Shouted the girl as one of the climbing monsters grabbed her leg.
The monster didn’t bite her but threw her away from the mountain. While she was falling I ran up the wall and killed the monsters on the way. Before she noticed she was with other kids again on the mountain.
[ Crowd ]
“What happened?”; “Is that The Spear Fisher?”; “Did he do it all by himself?”; “Blessed ones are truly amazing!”
[ Eric ]
“Where is Hakon?!”
[ Hakon ]
“I’m here!” Said Hakon as he walked out of the crowd with a wounded leg.

[ Eric ]
“Good. You’re alive. I have a task for you. Get everyone on top of the mountain and get as many rocks as you can off the mountain to kill those small beasts and block their path. Skyge!”
[ Skyge ]
“Yes, master?” Asked Skyge as he jumped from my shadow in his big form.
[ Eric ]
“Protect them for me while I’ll fight this big guy over there.”
[ Skyge ]
“Yes, Sir!” Shouted Skyge as he tried to salute with his paws.
[ Hakon ]
“Wait! What are you going to do?!”
[ Eric ]
“Kill that monster of course.” I said with a smile on my face.
Without any more words, I disappeared from their sight and ran through the wall toward that big monster. The small ones tried to reach me but I was too high for them to get me. I dragged one of the daggers on the wall and made a few racks fall on them. When I was above the monster I cut off a big part of the wall to crash him under it.
The monster took a few steps back to try to avoid the rock but part of the path collapsed under his feet. I thought that this might kill him but something was moving between the rocks. He grabbed me with one of his tentacles and took me down with him.
I survived the fall with few bruises but I wasn’t the only lucky guy. I could see the monster behind dust smoke. It looked like it had been crushed but it regenerated itself. When he did it he looked my way and two more tentacles flew toward me. I jumped away before it hit me but this attack left a deep mark on the ground. One strike might be all it needs to kill me.
Moon was shining very brightly for the night. Thanks to that I noticed an attack coming my way from above. The monster threw the rock at me. I ran toward the monster and avoided every rock he threw at me. Once I got close I cut off his left leg. I was going to attack him from the back but he defended himself with those tentacles. While I could easily cut off his leg it was a different story with the tentacles. They were as hard as steel.
While I tried to get another clean hit he healed his leg. I knew he is strong but didn’t expect that kind of ability. Can he regenerate infinitely or is there a limit? What if I destroy his heart? Or brain. That might kill him. First I need to hit him there somehow and It’ll be hard when I have only two arms and he has six tentacles to that. If I want to kill him I need to get rid of them.
It used one tentacle to attack me. I dodged it and started to run around him. I made him use four of them to attack me. That was my opportunity to try and cut them. He tried to block my attack with two tentacles but I easily avoided them and cut part of his back under the tentacle. While I was falling I cut another one. I was going to cut the third but he punched me with his fist. Luckily I blocked the attack with the daggers. At least this time I didn’t hit the wall. I rolled on the ground away from him. Cut-off tentacles didn’t regenerate. They rotted.
[ Eric ]
“Found ou weak spot… Now it’s a ride downhill…”
While I tried to stand up, the monster punched the ground and grabbed it. He pulled a big chunk of stone. The stone slowly changed its shape to something similar to my daggers. Now the monster had four tentacles and a sword.
[ Eric ]
“Hey! Don’t copy my weapon you prick.”

Candor: The Forgotten House
*** Please read note below *** As a 16-year-old mage from a powerful family, Jayce Candor had known from a young age what his future would hold. As the fourth son in his family the possibility of him becoming the heir to the household was very small. But, with his talent as a mage, his potential accomplishments in the military could lead to titles of nobility and political power. However, on what would otherwise be an unremarkable night, everything he had ever known, the only people he ever cared for, and all of the plans for his future were destroyed. House Candor, one of the six great houses that helped build the Eldoran Empire had been erased from history. By imperial decree, all those bearing the name Candor were hunted down and executed as traitors of the Empire. With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here

The Villain's Double Life
“The Villain’s Double Life as the Hero’s Mentor," “Demon Nobles Want to Live Too: A Hero-Raising Simulator for the Transmigrated Villain," “Just Because I’m a Villain Doesn’t Mean I Want the World to End!” Cyrus Calvide was the second son of an aristocratic lord; haughty, vain and power-hungry. One day, when his ancestral inheritance manifested, he discovered he was able to steal other’s powers and abilities using demonic magic. Taking this as a sign that he was destined to rule over others and become the new king of this land, he poisoned his father, killed his elder brother, and embarked on the path to greatness, taking advantage of a demonic invasion to consolidate power and harvest the abilities of others in a cruel and bloody fashion. Until he was summarily defeated by the Hero as a mid-game boss battle and executed for his crimes, of course. When a dedicated fan of the RPG “Next to Eden” awakened in the body of the cruelest future Count, four years before the beginning of the game, he pledged to live humbly. He would let his brother lead and support the Hero from the shadows to ensure the demon invasion would be defeated and he could enjoy life in peace. Rather, he would have, if he hadn’t gotten the Hero’s mentor killed in a freak monster attack before the Hero’s training could even begin. How was he supposed to live a life of peace and luxury if the Hero couldn’t stop the end of the world!? Donning a mask, Cyrus took up mentoring the Hero himself; how hard could it possibly be? . . . Four years later, the kind jack-of-all-trades hero Leon had become a twisted powerhouse: alienating his party members, clearing enemy encounters in a single magical blast, and coldly ignoring the affections of the girl whose love would have allowed him to clear the final boss. He seemed to have plastered himself to his Master’s side, instead. Cyrus bit back his despair while the hero reached out to grasp his hand. “Please stop ignoring the saint, Leon; you can't beat the Demon King by grinding stats! You need the power of love, remember?” “Don’t worry, Master,” Leon smiled as he traced the lines of Cyrus’s palm gently, almost reverently. “I have all the love I need.” VDL is two parts plot and worldbuilding, one part slow-build gay romance, starring a man far too proud to admit he's in over his head and the hero who loves him. Should be updating weekly.
