《1855 American Tycoon》Chapter 70: Cooperation (Part 2)

"If the third method is adopted," said Scrooge, "it means that I cannot get a lot of money in a short period, which is a loss for me. Unless you are willing to use the patent as a percentage of the selling price of the product increased to more than 15 percent."
Of course, this is a wild asking price. Does Scrooge know that the other party will not agree to such a condition, but isn't this what he hopes for? For him, buying shares with patents is the most sustainable. Sure enough, as Scrooge expected, this request was rejected by Lawrence.
"Mr. MacDonald, this request is too high. There has never been a patent authorization that can have such a high share ratio." Lawrence shook his head, "Your request is too insincere."
"I think this ratio is already very reasonable. You know, there are a series of patents on the production process involved in the production of sulfonamide. To be honest, it is not impossible to bypass those patents on the production process, but the cost At least turns it up." Scrooge said unhurriedly.
Hearing Scrooge's words, Lawrence almost fainted. He realized that he had once again underestimated the face and thickness of the kid's opposite. The walls of Windsor Castle probably couldn't compare.
"Mr. Macdonald, it has never been calculated in this way. The proportion is too high for us to bear."
"Then let's discuss the way I buy shares through patents. I think this way is most beneficial to you." Scrooge said.
"I would like to hear more about it." Lawrence raised his spirits, and he felt that this child's real purpose might be here.
"The earlier the drug is put into production, the sooner it will make money. If I buy shares with the patent, it means that at least you don't have to give me a penny now, and all the money can be put into production immediately. The first batch of drugs sold After going out, all the returned funds can be immediately invested in production, sales, advertising, etc. It’s almost as if I gave you the patent.” Scrooge said.
"But, we also want to give you a dividend." Lawrence wouldn't be fooled by Scrooge's nonsense.
"Oh, but you have to know that dividends can only be paid if you make a profit. Isn't it? It's not like selling patents. Whether you make money or lose money, I will pay a lot of money." Scrooge replied. Of course, this is sometimes nonsense, at least according to the third plan, if it loses money, the factory will immediately reduce production. Under such circumstances, the money that Scrooge can get will naturally be greatly reduced. But Scrooge wasn't about to give Lawrence the chance to come back and refute him. continued:

"Also, even if I buy shares with patents, I can't be the major shareholder, right? Whether to pay dividends, when to pay dividends, and how much to pay, are not things I can decide. Maybe this method is more unfavorable to me, but If His Royal Highness can give me some preferential treatment in other aspects, I am not unacceptable."
Throwing a new topic to cover up the loopholes and problems in the old topic is a common flower gun. Lawrence didn't check it for a while, but he was bypassed, and asked directly: "Then Mr. Macdonald, what other aspects do you need?" What about the offer?"
"His Royal Highness may know that besides selling medicines, I also sell guns." Scrooge smiled and said, "Not long ago, the Kingdom of Sardinia just ordered tens of thousands of rifles from me. Hmm, this rifle of ours is excellent, anyone who has used it will be full of praise if the United Kingdom is willing..."
"With all due respect," said Lawrence, "the United Kingdom is not the same as a country like Sardinia, and we can't carry a rifle that is not of British manufacture."
"You don't understand me, what I mean is that if His Royal Highness is willing to use his influence to get the United Kingdom to buy the relevant patents for this rifle - of course, rifles using these patents cannot be sold on the international market - —or if you are willing to help me sell this rifle to Europe, I am also willing to make concessions in other aspects. This is not difficult for His Royal Highness, but it is very important for me."
Lawrence thought for a while and said, "I can't make a statement on this matter, but I will bring your opinion to His Royal Highness. Well, let's go back to the previous topic. If you buy shares with patents, you hope you can How many shares do you have?"
"It depends on the total investment of His Royal Highness and how many shares he is willing to give me," Scrooge replied.
"The investment of Her Majesty the Queen, Her Royal Highnesses, and Your Excellencies will not be less than three million pounds, and, Mr. MacDonald, you must understand that the social impact of these investors is also an invisible investment. Therefore, the company's initial share capital value is well over three million. So..."
"According to your opinion in the first condition, the value of my patented lock is equivalent to a direct payment of at least one million pounds. And the total investment of His Royal Highness plus their social impact, I put it is nine million pounds." Scrooge said, "Then, although the valuation of one million is a bit low. But if His Royal Highness can provide me with other help, I am willing to convert my patent into one million pounds." A million shares." Scrooge took Lawrence's words and said.

"Alright then." Lawrence stood up, "I will pass on these contents to His Royal Highness. I hope that this transaction can be successful." He picked up the hat on the table and nodded to Scrooge, "If you have nothing else to do, I will go back to Windsor Castle and bring your thoughts to His Royal Highness the Prince."
"Ah, then it's up to you, Your Excellency." Scrooge also stood up.
...
"Lawrence, what kind of person do you think Mr. Scrooge McDonald is?" Prince Albert asked Knight Lawrence on the lawn of Windsor Castle. At this time, Queen Victoria, the supreme ruler of the most powerful kingdom in the world, was also on the sidelines. Hearing this question, she shifted her gaze to Lawrence with great interest.
"Mr. MacDonald is a quick and clear mind," replied Lawrence, after a moment's reflection, "and a great deal of knowledge, though as a scientist he is excellent, but as far as character and education are concerned he is And a rough Yankee with money in his eyes."
"Lawrence, why do I feel that there is a taste of sour grapes in your words." Queen Victoria laughed, "However, I heard that this Mr. MacDonald has no higher education at all, and he is self-taught. Such a person, It's natural to lack a little bit of etiquette. Not to mention a person of that kind of background, isn't I also a semi-barbarian in the eyes of Albert?" While speaking, Queen Victoria stretched out her hand and took her husband's arm.
"My dear," said Prince Albert to his wife, "what do you think of this Mr. MacDonald's request?"
"A normal reaction from a businessman, isn't it?" said Queen Victoria. "What the hell is his rifle?"
"Pretty good." Albert replied, "In fact, our army has noticed this rifle for a long time. Compared with the rifles we are equipped with now, this gun has huge advantages in terms of range, accuracy, and shooting speed. Advantages. According to the Army’s estimates, in terms of firepower efficiency, this gun is at least five times that of the rifles we use now. Therefore, for a small country like the Kingdom of Sardinia, it is a good choice to equip such a rifle. But for us Many people feel that directly using foreign rifles, or using rifles designed by foreigners, will damage the prestige of the United Kingdom. Therefore, even if the patent is purchased directly, some people will come out to oppose it.”
"But if you wait until the Sardinians and the Austrians fight, the situation may change, right?" Queen Victoria smiled, "If this rifle can increase the firepower efficiency by more than five times, then the equipment The Sardinians who bought tens of thousands of such rifles are equivalent to tens of thousands more troops. Coupled with the intervention of the French, the Austrians are in big trouble this time. If the Sardinians can fight a particularly beautiful battle, say Maybe domestic views will change."
"But that's not going to happen right away. Our negotiations can't be dragged on for so long." Prince Albert said with a smile, "If not, Lawrence, you can send a message to Mr. He makes a bet. If his rifle does well in Italy, I agree to his request and count his shares in the future drug company as eleven percent. If his rifle does not do well, Sardinia If the Kingdom is defeated, then please let him waive his claim and agree to convert his shares in the future company to nine percent. Until the result is out, his shares in the company will be ten percent for the time being Forget it. See if he agrees. In addition, he needs to pay more attention to the new hospital standards. Also, you have to remind him to prepare the content of the lecture in Cambridge in three days. In addition, After his trip to Cambridge, the Royal Academy of Sciences will vote on whether to invite him as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Sciences. The corresponding speeches must also be prepared."
...
That afternoon, Scrooge received the content conveyed by Lawrence. After thinking about it, Scrooge decided to agree to Prince Albert's proposal and took over the gamble. In World War I and World War II, the poor performance of the Italian army made many people think that even if the Italians had good weapons, they would not be able to fight. However, Scrooge knew that in this battle, their opponent Austria was not very strong, and they were also not very good at fighting. Historically, the Kingdom of Sardinia won this battle. Now, the Sardinian army, which has been strengthened with a rear-loading gun, can't be worse than in history, right? "Isn't it better to have a fully armed dobby than a douchebag with nothing?" Scrooge thought.

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] "You have to survive, Adam. You have to win." This is not a story starring Mary, because Mary is already dead. She bled out on her front doorstep following a sudden three-day absence. Seven years have passed, with her little brother—Adam—now standing at eighteen years of age. Following his sister's death, he lived the life of a delinquent, wandering the grimy streets of the city of Steeldale. All it amounted to was years of street fighting experience, no proper home and an uncertain future at a second-rate university. Unbeknowst to him, the day before university, he will be thrust from Steeldale into a brand new world. It is a world where a cherry red sky gazes down upon a fragmented continent, on which civilisations from other worlds have been dumped like refuse. The souls of man leak from their fingertips, coalescencing into superhuman powers and horrible fleshy monstrosities. Tribes of refugees clash against each other, attempting to carve out a place in this unrefined space. With no choice, Adam must traverse this dangerous new world, with Mary's shadow following him every step of the way. This is my entry to the April 2021 Writathon. Chapters will be posted as I write them.

Clarent Saga: Chronicles
Based on my work on Saga of the Jewels, I've been hired by an indie game developer to write the novel for their 'novel + turn-based battles' game which is in Early Access on Steam. Of course, a 'novel + turn based battles' is a terrible idea for a game, which is why no other games like this exist, but hey, the developer is paying me. And if something's worth doing at all, it's worth doing as well as possible, so I am going to give this project my very best shot and try to make it as good as it can be. So if you read this, please give me feedback on the story to help me make it as good as it can be! Please note, for this story I have been given a pre-existent set of characters, character back-story sketches and a rough plot to work with. I also have to insert random battles into the narrative, have set characters appear in a certain order, and have the party fight fixed bosses in a certain order, all at fixed points! Please also note that this is a first draft. I will be editing and re-working this in the future and re-posting it. But I need helpful feedback, if anyone can give it. You can also find the game version of this on Steam by searching there for 'Clarent Saga: Chronicles'.
