Chapter 271 – Battle of the Dragons

“Locke, where is it! Tell me.”

Eric could not hide his impatience.

“One is in the center of the palace, and the other is in that building. Can you see it?”

I pointed at the places that I thought were creating the hole.

“…This is bad. It’s no wonder that the privy council had such a difficult time.”

Eric said with a bitter expression.

“So, what is it?”

“The Ringain Kingdom’s embassy.”

“I see. So that’s what it is.”

The embassy was like a separate country within the Mendilibar Kingdom.

So even the privy council, which was connected directly to the king, could not invade their territory.

That made it the perfect place to hide something.

“Locke. In other words, there is something in the royal palace and the embassy that is creating the hole?”

“That’s the only explanation. Goran is right.”

Then Goran asked us,

“Which do we crush first?”

“…The palace. It would be best to act after the government is functional again.”

And it wasn’t just that.

Eric’s wife and children, as well as Goran’s daughter, Serulis, were there as well.

So if we went to the embassy first, Eric and Goran might not be able to concentrate, as their thoughts would be with the palace.

“Understood. And I agree. What about you, Eric?”

“I agree as well. Thank you, Locke.”

Perhaps Eric thought that I was being considerate of his family, as he thanked me.

“There’s no need to thank me. So it’s decided. We’ll break into the royal palace.”

Now that we knew what to do, I shouted to Kathe.

“Go and fly right above the palace. And then we’ll jump off!”

“Got it! And what should I do after that?”

Kathe was getting closer and closer to the palace now.

The area around the palace was surrounded in a thick fog, it almost looked like a white hill.

Even the tallest structure in the capital, a five-story watch tower, could be covered twice over. That’s how high the fog was.

“I can’t tell what is happening inside, even when using magic. We must be careful.”

“Understood.”

“Locke. I’ll leave the fall control magic to you.”

“Aye, I’ll handle it.”

Even as we talked, Kathe got closer to the palace.

A giant dragon flying overhead was sure to cause great chaos, but there was no time to think about all that.

“After we jump off, Kathe, you should…”

—–GAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

Kathe was just about to reach the area above the palace, when we heard the roar of a dragon from above.

We were about to jump off, but then stopped.

“Wh-what is that?”

When we looked up, far above, at the same height as the clouds, ten Evil Dragons were flying in circles.

—-GAAA!! GAAAA! GAA!

They must have noticed Kathe’s approach, as they began to roar to each other, as if communicating.

It would be a disaster if the royal capital were attacked by ten Evil Dragons without divine protection.

And so we had to stop their attacks and drive them away.

“I doubt that Kathe can take on ten of them at once. So Kathe and I will fight them together and…”

“No, they need you on the ground, Locke. I shall fight them alone!”

“Don’t be ridiculous.”

Even if Kathe was the Wind Dragon King, ten Evil Dragons was too much.

…

“Eric and Goran cannot use magic. And so they will not be able to jump off of my back!”

“It will be fine if I cast the magic before they jump.”

“Aye, that will be fine.”

Said Goran as he prepared to jump.

—GAAAAAAA!

Just then, an especially loud roar rang in the air. But it was coming from below.

“It’s Dorgo and Morris! What a relief!”

Eric said happily.

From below, they rose swiftly. It was Kathe’s father, the former Wind Dragon King, Dorgo, and the Grand Chamberlain of the Water Dragons, Morris.

Eric and Goran’s communication bracelets were connected to Dorgo and Morris’s communication bracelets.

And so everything that I told Eric and Goran had also been heard by Dorgo and Morris.

They had used the teleportation circle that was set in my mansion to rush to our aid.

“Sorry to keep you waiting. I understand the situation. You can leave those dragons up there to us.”

Dorgo said in a confident voice.

“Thank you. I’ll leave it to you then. We will head towards the ground.”

“Yes. Good luck.”

“I’m counting on you, Kathe.”

“Leave it to me!”

And so I held Lord Gerberga and Grulf as I jumped off of Kathe, along with Eric and Goran.

I used magic to move my right arm and hold Grulf. It was no time to think about how much it hurt.

Our destination was the thick fog that surrounded the royal palace.

On the other hand, as soon as we were off, Kathe cut through the air and rose suddenly.

Her fastest speed while carrying us was not really her fastest after all.

She seemed to rise faster than the speed of sound as she slammed into one of the Evil Dragons.

—-KYUAAAAA!

After the crash, the scales and flesh of the Evil Dragon flew into the air. Bones and wings were crushed, and it let out a scream as it plummeted towards the ground.
