《The Legend of the North》chapter 88

“Help…! Why is no one helping him?! Why…?” But it didn't take long for Fert to find the answer, exactly the same thing was going on around him, chaos and panic in a fight that was hard to understand. Loneliness, that's what he feels even though he was surrounded by so many men, people he could call the same... now he was alone, nobody was looking at him, nobody would care if he died at that moment, nobody... No, someone did look at him. The man on the ground with his stomach open was looking directly at him, imploring him… he was sure of it.
This brings him back to reality as if his heart was beating again after being stopped. He doesn't know what he's doing, he feels that the shield hinders him so he throws it to the ground to grab his spear with both hands and charge towards the beast with a scream that even he didn't understand where it came from. The beast falls to the side along with Fert, having cleanly penetrated the animal's ribs and lungs, driving the point of his spear through it.
However, before he can even understand what just did, the beast moves frantically, blood spewing from its nose. Fert puts his full weight on the beast and twists the spear as listens to the roars of pain this provoked. Ten seconds…twenty seconds…the animal was still moving, forcing Fert to press on with his tired body. Understanding that he couldn't go on like this, Fert remembers his sword and draws it, sticking it into the beast's neck, putting all his weight back into the attack.
Finally the movements stop and Fert remembers how his body feels with all the muscles loosened. The sounds of battle remind him of where he was as his lungs demanded air making him breathe heavily. The man on the ground lay motionless with a face of pain and panic even after dying, without thanks or even a look of peace for Fert to find comfort in what he had just done. Blood, intestines, and colors that he didn't even know existed inside a person were scattered on the floor.

He gets up and walks the few steps that separated him from the body and then closes the man's eyes and mouth. He felt that this was the only way to lighten the guilt for not reacting fast enough, though before he can get up, he feels a strong impact on his body followed by another as he hits the ground.
His first reaction is to quickly get up to face whatever has attacked him, but he can't move more than his head, so he decides to use it to look at what was happening to his body. He sees in his stomach the same image as that of the soldier who had closed his eyes, it did not seem real, as he did not feel pain.
The strength of the muscles that held his neck leave him and make his head fall heavily to the ground, he takes one of his hands to his stomach to feel a strange and warm texture, at that moment, understands that what was happening to him was real.
As his vision dimmed, he could see how the beast that attacked him was rapidly approaching, digging its huge claws into the dirty and bloody snow. For some reason he didn't feel panic or pain, maybe he didn't have enough blood left to feel it. This was better, that's what he thought, dying without any pain was better than suffering. But before his consciousness fades and the beast reaches him, a goddess sneaks into his cloudy field of vision, awakening him from his resignation.
She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, that's what he felt at that moment, the dull red hair that fell from her shoulders moved in synchrony with her sword. His vision dims as the beast's blood flies through the air, but his consciousness is still awake long enough to hear words that anyone might mistake for the last delusions of a dead man.
"This one is still alive!" The goddess who saved Fert from death screams hoarsely.
Blood, screams and roars had replaced the previous silence of the valley, the formation that at first seemed impenetrable was now nothing more than a misshapen mass of man and beast alike in the front lines.

“The chain of command is completely broken. I underestimated the appetite of these beasts, the most famished launched without caring about their safety at the first sign of blood.” But even within the chaos Yheer sees a glimmer of hope.
"She's holding up well. We can't let a woman overtake us so easily!" Men, forward!” Yheer did not hesitate to use the men's pride by reordering his forces and trying to regain the advantage, after all, this was only the beginning of the horde.
Yheer fully trusted Nila's abilities to handle the battlefront, but he knew how to recognize when it was time to step in and put his foot in the fight. Reorganizing an already disorganized army in the middle of a battle could be extremely complicated depending on the situations at the time, wounded and immobile soldiers on the ground were a clear obstacle to movement and had to be rescued without turning their backs on the enemy. Not helping them was not an option, Yheer didn't even consider it and if he still did, it would seriously impact the men's morale. Therefore, he had an extremely versatile special unit for any situation, the lupus.
Dozens of wolves slithered through the men, reaching the wounded quickly. If they were not in serious condition, they bit their clothes and dragged them to a safe place, but if they could not bear to be roughly moved, the wolves returned to their human form, despite the fact that this left them vulnerable at the time, and carried them in their backs.
“Without fear! push them back!” Yheer dodges claws that are the same length as two of his index fingers one behind the other. With a quick counterattack the beast that attacked him drops dead due to his multiple wounds being Yheer 's sword that finishes the job. He takes a few seconds to inspect the body, the skin sticking to the bones making it clear the extreme famine the beast was going through, although even such a weak animal proved to be dangerous if forced to these extremes.
“The cold hits us all equally, we are not the only ones who suffer from it.” Yheer understands that if he were in the same situation, he would act the same. But his position was that of being the prey and he would defend himself with all his might showing that a wolf is not to be taken lightly.
His clothes fall to the ground having stripped them off. His lack of armor, even light armor, was obvious and this was the reason. With a slight gesture Yheer indicates Nila to take care of everything for him, normally he did not do this unless the he have a completely trustworthy person like her. The role of a commander was to lead his troops, although Yheer decides to take part in the battle and bleed just like his peers.
A wolf with pitch black fur lies where Yheer stood in his human form until recently. With a short howl, the other wolves perfectly understand their orders and rush to carry them out, leaving aside the work of removing the remaining wounded from the others.
By that time the battlefield had regained some of its initial coherence, now it only remained to eliminate the beasts that refused to retreat despite their clear disadvantage. The lupus special unit proved its worth with its quick action being led by Yheer who was leading the mopping up attack.
“We don't have much time left!" Yheer repeats the information with a howl just as he received it from one of the scouts several kilometers ahead. This forces everyone to attack more frantically and hastily, resulting in mistakes that lead to injury or death.
Yheer suppresses the pleasure he feels when his fangs bathe in the blood that spurted from the beast's neck as the life drained from him, wasting no time, he makes a swift move with his jaw snapping its neck and finishing the job in a faster way to pounce on its following prey.
