《Iridescent (E. Cullen)》Chapter Seventeen

Carlisle is patient with Zen. He doesn't push her into a conversation, just watches her as she moves around his study, looking over the titles of his books, looking over artefacts from around the world that he has collected throughout his many, many years. He waits for her. And it does help. He's giving her the time that Emmett wanted her to have, the time that the others were not willing to give. Allowing her to relax, to find some comfort in the situation. They are not here to hurt her. It's not what they do. It is not who they are. But to her, there is still a threat here. She moves towards him. Towards the chair across from him and his desk.
"I won't tell anyone" She assures him. He nods and gives her a soft smile. If she has known this whole time and not said a word then there is nothing to say that she will now. She has given them absolutely no reason to think that she is about to run around screaming vampire. She lets out a breath and worries her hand against the chair. Carlisle leans forward a little.
"Edward wouldn't forgive me if I didn't ask about your mind reading" Zen snorts as she glances at him before she drops into the chair in front of her, crossing one leg over the other.
"It's a thread" She offers, drawing her fingers over the arm of the chair. "A part of the tapestry of me" Carlisle raises an eyebrow at her. "That's just how it was explained to me" She defends. "I know it sounds dumb"
"No" Carlisle argues. "If it made sense to you when you were told" She hums a little. "Do you feel comfortable talking about it?" He asks. "The tapestry?" She wrinkles her nose and lets out a breath before she holds out her hand, palm up. Focusing on it she lets green magical energy swirl around her hand.
"It's only fair considering I know what you are..." She starts. "Maybe it will help you believe that I won't be outing you" She covers her palm with her other hand and focuses on it before she pulls her hand back to reveal a rose made of ice settled in her palm. She holds it out to Carlisle who raises an eyebrow at it. Whilst made of ice, it is tinted green, noticeable in the light, a lingering of her magic.
"You have magic" He realises, she hums and nods.
"Among some other enhancements," She adds and then sets the rose on his desk. "The technical term for what I am....is a demigod or if you want to be specific, an Asgardian-human hybrid" Carlisle leans back in his seat to process that and Zen can hear the rest of the house fall silent.

"Demigod" He whispers, his mind already whirling through centuries of research he's done on everything. There have been rumours and stories about demigods but never any solid proof, and now there is one sitting in front of him. "Asgard is Norse, so which....?"
"Loki" She answers and then wiggles her fingers, letting green magical energy swirls around them. "They preferred a female form when they met my father...." She explains seeing the look on his face. "Loki likes to flip-flop" She smirks a little and shrugs.
"So you're not human?" Zen looks over her shoulder to Emmett who is standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his arms over his chest. There is something close to relief on his face and in his eyes. As if he was worried about her being human, much as Edward is with Bella, though obviously, Edward's worry is more warranted. Bella is far more fragile than Zen, it would be far more dangerous for her to fall into a relationship with a vampire, but Zen has to consider that in her own relationships and life. She cannot come out of this looking like a hypocrite. What sort of example will that be setting for Bella? But she feels something for Emmett. A connection. An attraction. It's not as easy as ignoring him. He's very difficult to ignore.
"Not entirely human" She corrects him.
"Right" Emmett whispers. "Part god" She hums and nods, tilting her head as he processes that. She figures it would be tough for anyone to believe if they've never encountered this stuff before. If they have never stepped outside of the whole vampire thing. "So how strong does that make you?" Emmett asks as he leans up, causing Zen to smirk from her seat. Carlisle smiles a little watching them, almost as if he can sense where this is going to go. Emmett takes only three steps towards Zen before she throws out her hand, green magical energy appearing around her fingers and around Emmett, with a flick of her fingers, Emmett finds himself pinned to the bookshelf behind him. Zen has not even moved from her seat.
"Strong enough" She comments and wiggles her fingers. "Plus I have magic"
"So you're a witch?" Emmett asks, she snorts.
"The preferred term among my people is sorceress" She argues and then turns to Carlisle. "Now you understand why I won't tell anyone, because outing you, means outing me, and history has been far harsher on my kind than yours" Carlisle nods in agreement. There are numerous stories and historical events that show just what happens to those with magic. Vampires have remained secret for so long, but witches have been discovered throughout the centuries. And burnt for their gifts.

.......
There is a weight lifted from Zen now. Getting the truth out was kind of cathartic. Getting the truth out to someone was good for her. She might not be able to tell Charlie or Bella, but she's told someone now. She's not holding it in and keeping it to herself. She has people to talk to about being different, and whilst she is still a little unsure about the risk. They are still vampires. But now both sides know that their secrets are safe with each other. They are about as likely to roll over on her as she is them because they would incite themselves too. Emmett. Emmett is still the one that she is most likely to trust. He's just not given her a reason to doubt him, and neither have the others but they have stayed out of her way, he's tried to be friendly with her. Soft with her. Kind to her. She will now admit that she really likes him. For a vampire. She follows after the oversized vampire as he leads her up through the house and towards a bedroom overlooking the front of the house. It's clearly a bedroom, as there is a bed, though it doesn't really look slept in. The whole room is definitely more like a teen's bedroom then she would have put money on. Stacks of comic books and magazines about cars and bikes. CD cases over every surface. Clothes on the floor and piled in a corner. There are even engine parts scattered around. She doesn't really know what she was expecting of their bedrooms, but she is sure that this isn't what she imagined for Emmett. He's bold and excitable, it is no wonder that his bedroom reflects that.
"You redecorating?" She asks, standing at the wall with a number of coloured paint swipes on it. He chuckles and shrugs.
"Nah" He answers. "Not currently anyway....." She raises an eyebrow at him. "Changed my mind" He admits. She smirks and shakes her head.
"Do you do that often?" She counters, looking back over the wall. Emmett moves to stand right at her flank, watching her face.
"Not with people" He assures her, she lets out a breath and glances up at him. He curls his hand around her cheek as she turns to face him.
"Emmett" She warns a little because she still doesn't know what she wants to do here.
"You like me, right?" He asks, she sighs and nods in his hand. "And you are attracted to me?" She rolls her eyes but nods again. "You're not entirely human and I am a vampire....so why not?"
"Because I will tell Bella that it's a bad idea to date Edward" She whispers. "And if she finds out about the vampires, and I'm with you..."
"Then she'll think you a hypocrite" He realises. "And she'll hate you" He brushes his thumb over her cheek. He can understand that. Bella and her family mean everything to her so the concept of a family member hating her is a big deal for her.
"I am already dreading if she finds out about me" She adds. "I've kept it a secret for years now and I feel like she's going to resent it so much that I didn't tell her about this, and not even the Asgardian stuff, but the fact that Charlie isn't my real dad" Emmett frowns a little.
"What?" He asks, she snorts a little.
"My real dad is Charlie's brother, John, but he didn't want me...so Charlie took me in, raised me" Emmett smiles a little, from what they've heard about Charlie over the last two years, he can see that.
"So how come Loki didn't raise you?" He inquires and she shakes her head.
"They weren't allowed to" She admits quietly. "My grandfather, Odin...he decided that I wasn't allowed on Asgard, that Loki wasn't allowed to raise me. He was ashamed that Loki bore a half-human" She whispers. "I lived there for three years and Odin barely had any contact with me, unless he had to because I was with Loki or Frigga...."
"His loss," Emmett tells her warmly. She smiles a little. "Well," He starts and taps her cheek with his thumb and then pulls his hand back. "No use in wasting the rest of the night" He steps back with a smirk. "I remember a little bird telling me that she liked video games" She chuckles a little and watches as he moves to the couch across the room, situated across from a huge flat-screen television. "And I want to know just how much she likes them"
"I have been on Asgard for three years, so..."
"Oh, your defence is that you are rusty, huh?" He teases as he sets up a gaming console. She smirks and shakes her head. "And not just that you suck?"
"Okay, you know what?" She starts towards him. Those are fighting words and Zen will never let a challenge go unanswered, especially when he looks far too smug for her liking.

Thomas the Brawler
Thomas doesn't remember what his last name was, before it became Bluebrim, a name belonging to another universe. He's also pretty sure he wasn't this stupid before he arrived, but what can you do, when a day that was supposed to begin with an interview to set your life back on track instead begins in a universe that makes no sense, with rules you can't begin to understand? Maybe he should have paid more attention to the avatar creation screen ... Content warnings: All of them. Seriously. Expect lots of blue screens to begin with. Don't expect a power-leveling fantasy, in which the lone hero beats up all the bad guys, and gets a harem of women. There's just a guy who treats character creation like an annoying series of pop-up advertisements, and the story is basically the ramifications of that. The main character has to learn to take the world he's found himself in seriously, and he'll learn the way most of us do, by doing it wrong first. This is, insofar as it is successful, a dark comedy fantasy. Also a bit of horror, particularly but not exclusively body horror. I'm pretty sure I've earned those Content Warning tags, so, uh, yeah. This is practice. Hopefully things improve as I go, and figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I make no guarantees things will ever get better. I've already made mistakes, I'll make more, and I'm happy to notice them each time I make them. You don't improve unless you fail. (On the plus side, it probably won't get much worse.) Feel free to point out anything you think I'm doing wrong; I don't promise to change anything, particularly if it's a matter of taste, but I am looking to improve, and figuring out what I need to improve goes faster if I don't have to try to figure it out myself. I've updated the earlier chapters for formatting, in the hope that it would make everything easier to read on mobile devices. Hopefully things work slightly better now, but please let me know if there are any issues anywhere.

Death Galaxy
When portals opened across the world and space, people were a bit terrified. Naturally, some people called it the end times or some other negative interpretation. Thankfully, the new arrivals managed to calm the masses, saying they were here from across dimensions in search of peaceful refuge. After some discussion and promise from the reality hopers to not break the world, they were allowed asylum. And so, began a technological revolution as the new cohabitants, who looked distinctly human if a bit off, openly shared some of their knowledge with us. Space travel, while not cakewalks, become more easily accessible, as did interplanetary colonization. Naturally, with the New Humans keeping some of the more dangerous techs to themselves and Old Humans being a greedy bunch, tensions are arising as old and new grudges rear their ugly heads. The world endlessly spins as history, both good and bad, is seemingly on its way to repeating itself. Only with other planets, and potentially other universes, being the backdrop this time. But that was big stuff that Alex had no real interest in. They only care about one thing and one thing. TDAG. Trans-Dimensional Adventure Games. Best VR system ever made. Alex, instead of focusing on political and multiverse shenanigans, had their eyes set on VR games. Specifically, one of the new and up and coming potential best games of all times. Death Galaxy
