《Learn How To Love》The Ferris Wheel

Since the punch did absolutely nothing to cool you down, you decided it was time for a change of pace; "I'm gonna get out of here," you stood.

"Out of here, as in out of the tent? Or out of here, like... out of here?" Steven asked, hoping you wouldn't leave just yet.

"You think I'd call it a night without riding every single rollercoaster in FunLand?" You pretended to be offended, but couldn't help a smile from peeking through. "You underestimate me, Universe."

The corner of Steven's lips twitched upwards upon hearing you say his name like that. Your face warmed, but you kept your composure.

"Fine," Steven stood at a few inches taller than you, "but you should let me show you the best spots on every ride."

You nodded with a playful smirk and took his hand; "lead the way."

Steven looked from your face to his hand in yours, but kept his mouth shut. His eyes smiled before he tugged your arm and started jogging.

"Is running necessary?" You hollered ahead of you to Steven, who was two steps ahead.

"No!" He replied, but didn't slow down. It actually seemed like he sped up.

Passing party guests of all ages, holding cotton candy, popcorn, and giant stuffed animals, you and Steven ran and kept running- to places unknown. Until they were known. Steven stopped suddenly, which you didn't realize before you ran into his back.

You finally stopped to breathe, and followed Steven's gaze to the Ferris wheel, which sparkled against the darkening summer sky. More than a few lights had gone out on the contraption, causing its light show to have some black spots, but it was still breathtaking.

"I love this place," you sighed.

"Yeah, it's alright," Steven joked. "Come on," he nodded towards the line and gave your arm a small pull.

You inched through the line of people, neither you or Steven saying a word, but your fingers remained intertwined. Although both of you were trying to hide it, you were both overthinking this hand-holding thing. The grasp turned sweaty, but the two of you only separated after a good 5-10 minutes; once it was your turn to ride the wheel.

Steven let you slide in first, like the gentleman he was, and sat down soon after.

It was quiet. Sure, there was the sound of the boardwalk below, but when it was just you and Steven up in the air, everything felt quiet. Still. Peaceful.

There was no music, no pounding bass, no flashing lights, no spiked punch. It was just you and Steven. You, the guy of your dreams, the humid summer night, and a giant Ferris wheel on the coast of Delmarva.

You breathed in the smell of fried foods and the ocean, trying to find the right words to say, but there were none. At least, none you could think of. So, you gave up on words and gently laid your head on Steven's shoulder. He seemed to relax at your touch, and allowed his head to fall onto yours.

You wanted so badly to stay in that moment. To let the silence stretch on forever rather than hear something you were afraid to hear. But you couldn't let your questions go unanswered. You wouldn't go one more minute without knowing.
