Listen to "Evermore" by Taylor swift.

Intense chapter ahead.

It was a bright Saturday morning. Betty was on her way to picking up Hayes from Enos' house and James was with her. As usual, there was nothing special about that day, it was just like any other weekend. But of course, James and Betty were so high on life that day.

A couple of months had passed since James had proposed to Elisabeth, which means there was only about three months to the wedding. Both of them didn't have as many friends in England. Just a few coworkers and some women from Hayes' day care. Not forgetting Callum and Adrian were among the few people on the guest list. Elisabeth looked for William and Lucy, but they no longer went to New York university. It's like they disappeared without a trace.

Betty couldn't bring it within herself to invite her brothers and father, they wouldn't show up even if she did send an invitation. She had no idea where her mother was, the woman never looked for her after being set free years ago. It saddened her that the most important people in her life still wanted nothing to do with her. Deep down the feelings of pain from being the neglected child never really left. She has to live with that fact her entire life.

A part of her wishes them well. She wants the best for everyone who was once there to raise her. But some where deeper within her soul she can't find it in her heart to let go of the anger. They damaged her and Many of those scars are still bleeding.

James and his father are like two worse enemies now, especially after his father won over the case and Betty never getting the justice she deserved. It took James months to get over the fact that he lost that fight. He did everything in his power to win that case. But he was fighting against one of the most powerful men in America, perhaps he was always bound to lose. No matter how many times Betty assured James that she had moved on from that and she no longer cared about justice, James still felt like he failed her. He can never forgive himself for that.

Aside from the darkness surrounding this holy union, the light was brighter for them this time. And the universe was on their side, or so they believed. The funny thing about life is that no matter how good you are, it owes you nothing. Today you have it all and the next day you might lose it all. And there is usually very little you can do when the universe had turned it's back against for.

James parked the car outside Enos' apartment complex. As usual, Betty would step down the car to go and receive Hayes on the door step. It was a simple arrangement they follow every weekend.

Betty wore a beautiful yellow sundress that day, it was picnic Saturday and they were all ready to have fun again. She walked careful on the pavement with her high heels finding balance with gravity. James pressed the car horn and seconds later Enos opened the door with Hayes in his arms.

James had his eyes fixed on Betty as she slowly climbed the balcony stairs.

16 years ago, James heard his first gunshot noise. It was a sharp shocking sound that had his ears echoing with a ringing for a solid five minutes. Today, James is 25 years old, and never before had a gunshot sound scared him that intensely than when he heard it ripple in the air that day. His blood went cold in seconds.

It was a loud noise and his eyes only looked at his woman who stood frozen on her track from sudden shock.

Another gunshot sound from the street had James running out of his car and yelling for Betty to lay down on the ground. "Get down , love. GET DOWN NOW." He instructed with hot blood coursing through his veins.

But Betty wouldn't move a inch. She just stood there, her body facing Enos' direction as Enos himself stood there paralysed by the door with dreadful horror in his blue overwhelmed eyes. Hayes' cries could be heard echoing all around them as he kept on begging, "Mama.....mama....I'm scared." The baby screamed as he bore witness to something he shall never forget.

And then another gunshot noise stormed the air and that's when James knew......and an instant terror had his lungs choking for air. He run incredibly fast as the adrenaline pushed his body to know no limits, and when he got to Betty by the door way, he quickly held her shoulders and turned her around to face him. "James...." She whispered slowly with her eyes locked intensely to his own. There was fear in those eyes, never ending fear.

Betty bent her head low and looked at her dress. The once bright yellow fabric was now coated with RED. James' eyes fell on Betty's chest......blood, everywhere. His soul instantly sank to the ground as he felt the moment stop. Three gunshot wounds, one of her stomach, the other on her shoulder, and the last one directed straight to her heart. She fell in his arms as her eyes began to close.

An old woman's scream from across the other side of the street was heard from every corner before everybody else around that area started to run.

It's true what they say, when a person is only a few seconds away from their death, their entire life flushes before their eyes. And as Elisabeth Wilson's soul sank into an eternal abyss, her life began flushing before her.

It's a universal law that it always rains when the ones who are meant to keep on living get acquainted with the dead instead. That afternoon, rain did not only pour in Manchester, it stormed.
