《Rebirth Of Civilization》Chapter 51 - Discourse

"I don't know. It feels like there's something off about him. I can't put my finger on it, something about that guy just gave me the creeps." Isaac said, idly poking the dying embers of their campfire.
They didn't make it back to camp until late in the evening, and a good portion of the camp was already asleep. Shelby, Andrew, Arges, Isaac, Kalan and Leah were huddled around what remained of the final campfire of the night. They would have an official discussion in the morning, but they couldn't help but go over the details again as soon as they arrived back. There were others awake, keeping watch nearby and listening Andrew was sure, but they were taking watches a whole lot more seriously following the goblin attack the other night. They had watches up then too, they just weren't paying close enough attention apperently.
"Ugh. You don't believe he really got a message from God, we get it. But literally everything else about this guy was perfect. He was super nice, they had good shelters and enough food to share a bunch with strangers. Everyone there looked pretty healthy too, we didn't see a single thing in there that looked shady. I think it's a little ridiculous you still refuse to even consider moving in with them." Shelby said from across the fire.
"Yeah, he was too perfect. Did you see his shirt? It was damn near brand new! How would you even manage that living out here for like three months? There's no way this dude isn't exploiting people somehow." Isaac replied.
"Okay, now who's the crazy conspiracy theorist? We didn't see anything like that. "
"He had nice chairs too."
"Isaac, I'm sorry but I don't think a clean shirt and nice chairs make this guy some kind of evil mastermind or something. I mean it sounds like the guy you talked to on the way in had a pretty high opinion of this guy too." Kalan said.

"We're just going to breeze over the whole vision from god thing?"
"I'm with you on that one Isaac. A whole week before, why would it be just that guy and no one else? Arges you said you met your god?" Andrew cut in.
"Yes, each one of us did, but not a week before. Sistus spoke to us in a dream the night we were transported. We were given no time to prepare, and offered no gifts beyond the question of if we wanted to go not." Arges said.
"Okay so you can accept that he spoke with God, but think there's no way George did?" Shelby said.
"My god is not your own, I think. My world was home to many gods, and no humans. I do not think your god would visit if there were no humans there to guide."
"I mean, there's only one God. It was probably just-" Shelby began before Andrew cut her off.
"I wasn't trying to start a theological argument here guys, chill out okay? I believe Arges because I see no reason for him to lie. Everything he's said about what his god told him lines up with what we already know from the status messages we got when we first arrived here. There's no way to verify any of the stuff George has said without at least meeting someone who knew him before we were all transported here." Andrew said.
"There was that one guy, Jack Ryan, he said he met him the same day we were transported, and they were sent over together. We can just ask him. " Shelby said, shooting him an annoyed look.
"I completely agree. We have to meet with that guy before we make our final decision. It sounds like he's the one making them all bullets somehow too, which is also a huge deal." Isaac said.

"Wait seriously? They can make more bullets?" Leah said, sitting up. Her eyes had been closed before and Andrew had assumed she dozed off by the fire. The conversation had dragged on for nearly an hour already, and it was late.
"Yeah. Kyle told us about it, something like 'he can make as many as we need', which is kind of incredible." Isaac said, "Funny how George didn't mention anything about that to us."
"Okay, you really are starting to stray a little into conspiracy theory territory now. I'm not sure we gave him any reason to mention it in our discussion, I'm sure he would've told us if I had thought to ask." Andrew said, "But incredible is right. It takes a huge amount of mana for me to make even a small knife out of mana, and even then it's temporary. This guy must have an incredibly specialized catalyst or something to be able to do that."
"Maybe he's just better at it than you are."
"Dude, Shelby, what is your problem tonight?"
"Hey, chill, we're all on the same side here, remember? And she's totally right, its very possible this guy is just a whole lot better at mana control than I am. In fact, if he's really making enough bullets to supply that whole camp it's almost a guarantee that he is, specialized catalyst or not. It sounds like they spawned and started camping out right away, without any major battles. That leaves a lot of time to practice." Andrew said, giving both Isaac and Shelby a cool look. Tensions between the two had been steadily rising since they returned from the scouting trip, and Andrew was getting sick of it. He didn't really give a shit if this other guy was better at mana control than him, if anything that would be a good thing. Bullets were an incredibly valuable commodity, and almost impossible for them to conventionally reproduce out here as far as he was aware.
"I still think there's something off about him." Isaac said.
"I agree Isaac. But he hasn't given us any good, substantive reasons not to trust him, and no, that is not a reason in and of itself. Okay. What do you think we should do?" Andrew said.
All eyes turned to Isaac and the camp went quiet as he took a long moment to think. The silence was broken by a long, drawn out snore that erupted out of Leah, who had fallen asleep again. A round of chuckles broke the tension and Isaac sighed. "I, don’t know. Just like, set up camp somewhere a little ways off maybe?" Isaac said, he looked just as tired as the rest of them, now that everyone had cooled down a little.
'Okay, how about this? We go to bed, think on it, and talk about it with everyone else in the morning. Like we agreed we would do almost an hour ago?" Andrew said, trying not to sound too annoyed.
"Holy fuck please do. You guys are so loud." Sam's voice echoed out from another part of the camp where he was clearly trying to sleep. It was accompanied by scattered chuckles from other parts of the camp, and the rest of those still around the fire shared a companionably abashed look before agreeing that it was indeed, time to go to bed.

The Yes-Mage
Plenty of people have stopped and asked what it'd be like to simply have everything, and Sylvain Henry Camille Johansson was no different. He was a man who had a lot of things going on, with a name that'd make a supervillain blush and a family who'd make even the useless of their rank into someone important. It was a shame, then, that he was slapped with a dreadfully unfortunate condition that kept him from living up to any of those already low expectations. Stuck living a life where magic is everywhere while he's left working with nothing more than a moderate intellect, a little bit of whatever influence he could get from his family, and a lifetime's practice at making himself the ideal subordinate for his bosses' boss, Vane was still beating the odds and slowly working his way up in the world. When the cunning yes-man finally got a chance to really make a name for himself, he leapt at the offer, taking his first real step onto a road he knew he was always meant to walk. His goal? Nothing less than finding out why he and too many other unfortunate souls are barred from the wonderful world of the higher energies, and with any luck, fixing it. Of course, life has a knack for interfering in even the humblest of plans, and Vane's lofty ideals were anything but humble; he was practically a walking bullseye for disaster. The funny thing about catastrophe, though, is that nobody can ever say what form it's going to take. That’s why, when it all went wrong for Vane, he'd gotten everything he'd ever wanted foisted onto him, and Everything else, too. Watch as a man so used to saying 'yes' to everyone above him finds himself stuck with the power to make reality itself say it back.
