《As You Wish : Loki Fanfic》A Day in the Life of a Recovering Drug Addict

Sammee's POV

I woke up with a headache like I did every morning now. Withdrawal sucked, especially when it was such a powerful drug. Eir had been a lifesaver throughout the whole thing, literally. Because I'd been needing so much help, my room was in the infirmary. They took one of the operating rooms and made it my room/medical room.

I stretched before sitting up and rubbing my eyes, trying to reach the pain behind them, but I never could. I wasn't nauseous yet, so that was a good sign. Maybe I could get food in me before I got nauseous and started throwing up.

A knock at the door pulled my attention away from my aches and pains, and I looked up. The door opened and Asa poked her head in.

"Good," she smiled, "you're up."

"Only just." I grumbled.

Asa had been my lady's maid since I got here, Queen Frigga's doing. She couldn't do much, but the little she could, she did. She thought it would make me more comfortable if I had a familiar face with me. And Asa went everywhere I went.

My mornings consisted of forcing breakfast down my throat, then forcing medicinal tea down my throat, and trying not to throw up for the next few hours. After that, Sif came to get me to start training.

I was handling training a lot better lately. When I first arrived a month ago, I couldn't stay awake for more that two hours. Now, I can at least stay up most of the day. I still get exhausted, though. Pretty easily, too. I was rebuilding my strength back up and I was doing a great job, but I lost my breath quickly.

Sif was a huge help. She was a patient teacher and tried her best to accommodate for me. She was teaching me sword fighting. She said it was the fastest way to get my strength and energy back, but I think she's biased. I did enjoy training again, even if it was difficult for me. I wasn't as weak as I was when I got out of that coma a few years ago, but my energy felt worse.

"You look better today than you did yesterday." Asa told me as she shut the door behind her. I was sick all day yesterday. My stomach just wouldn't hold anything down. Not even water.

"Yep, that's a plus." I agreed with a small smile.

"Let's get you dressed and ready for breakfast, then." Asa said with a sunshine-bright smile. I nodded and pushed myself off the bed.

The cold tile floor underneath my bare feet did little to wake me up more. Asa set out a few dresses for me while I brushed my teeth, did my business, and bathed. When I was done, I walked back into my room with a towel around me.

All the dresses Asa had laid out for me were different shades of purple. That had become my 'official color', but I didn't mind it. Purple was my favorite color and the dresses were beautiful... too bad I hated wearing dresses.

"Come on, Sammee. You know the Alfather doesn't want you in warriors clothing." Asa reminded me. "And, it could be worse." She told me.

She was right, it could be worse. Odin could have kept me chained up in my room. He could have revoked my training and fighting privileges. He could have thrown me in the dungeon like he did with his own sons.

"This one." I said in monotone and pointed at a dress. The dress was gorgeous. It faded from dark purple at the bottom to light purple at the top. It was a regency empire waist dress with mesh, light purple, long, flowing sleeves.

Asa helped me put it on before having me sit, so she could dry my hair. Once my hair was completely dry, Asa styled it in an updo and added a small diamond tiara, another one of Odin's additions.

"Ok, do you want light makeup, or your usual no makeup today?" Asa asked me. She really didn't have to ask, my answer was the same every time. "No makeup it is." She said at my silence.

Once Asa had picked out shoes for me, we left for the private dinning hall. I had breakfast with Frigga every morning. Lunch, too, if I could stomach it and didn't have anything scheduled with Bruce.

Frigga and Odin were having a bit of trouble, especially after Odin kidnapped me and sent her sons to prison. To be short, she wasn't talking to him. Therefore, I didn't have to eat with Odin during the day. Unfortunately, he demanded that Frigga and I have dinner with him and the palace officials every night. Neither Frigga, nor I were happy about it.

"Sammee! You look better. How are you, dear?" Frigga asked once we walked into the room. I smiled at her as my heart warmed. All of this palace stuff wouldn't be bearable if not for her. She was my mother and I desperately needed that lately.

"Definitely better." I told her. "Hoping I can eat without nausea today." I said with a proud smile.

"That will be a first." Frigga's eyes lit up brightly as she put her hands together. Since I'd gotten here, I hadn't been able to eat a full meal. Only a couple of bites before I got nauseous.

"Yep! Fingers crossed!" I held up my hand and crossed my pointer and middle finger. Frigga tilted her head before I chuckled. "It's for good luck." I explained.

"Fingers crossed, then." Frigga said and crossed her fingers as well.

We sat at the small table and Asa and Emery, Frigga's new Lady-in-waiting, brought over the food and drinks. Frigga had got something close to lemon black tea. I was quite pleased with the taste.

"Any news?" I asked like I did every day.

"No," Frigga sighed. "None, yet." She told me . I hung my head and nodded. Loki and Thor were still both in the dungeons for trying to help me and I could do nothing to help them. Hilde was a little luckier. She had been assigned to the west warriors wing where she continued her duties as a Valkyrie. Unfortunately, she wasn't allowed to see me and I couldn't see her. "How are you getting along with your fighting lessons?" Frigga asked to change the subject.

"Great! Sif is- she's great. I can keep up now and have built up all my muscle again."

"Good, dear." Frigga smiled and took my hand to squeeze.

We ate in a peaceful silence after that. After breakfast, it was time for me to go back to Eir for my medicine and treatment session. Eir was not only helping with the withdrawal, but also keeping that dark version of myself from breaking through and hurting me again. Eir used herbs along with a kind of meditative hypnosis. She wasn't trying to rid me of that dark version of myself, but when the Ancient One made me forget and trapped that dark version in the mirror dimension without a physical body, it cause a kind of split personality.

The problem with not having a physical body in the mirror dimension, was that the consciousness of whatever was in there became fluid, a reflection of me. This made it easy for it to attack when my guard was lowered, or when there was a reflective surface.

Eir was trying to rejoin our personalities and break down that barrier, and it was working. I no longer had any problems with the dark version of me. No reflections, no paranoia, no injuries. It was going great and I was always excited to start another session. The faster I could get this done, the faster I could get the boys, plus Hilde, and leave.

Unfortunately for me, when I pushed open the doors to the infirmary, Odin was there.

"Your majesty, I really don't believe she's quite ready for that. She's still very fragile and-" Eir stopped once she saw me open the door.

"Well, she certainly seems ready." Odin said as he looked me over. "It will only be one day out of the week. You'll still be permitted to your healing regiments." Odin dismissed her and walked toward me. "Sammee," he greeted before passing me and continuing out the door.

I walked into the room in silence. My mood suddenly dropping significantly. Eir got her station of herbs and what she needed for healing magic before addressing me.

"Don't worry, dear. You'll be fine. He might be impatient, but he's not an idiot. If he believes you are ready, then you must be ready." She explained. "Now, come on. We're already behind today." Eir told me and pat the table I was to lay on.

Slowly, I walked over to her and climbed up on the table. She gave me a cup of liquid to drink and I tilted my head back, trying to ignore the overwhelming taste of herbs. After that, Eir put down a pillow for my head and I laid back till I was flat on the table.

"You know the routine, close your eyes." Eir told me and grabbed a blindfold to keep out the light, and earplugs to keep out the noise. This hypnosis needed my sense of touch to be on the forefront.

Once my senses were darkened, Eir started. It didn't hurt, but it wasn't comfortable. Her hand hovered over my body with a heat coming from her palms. It wasn't long until my mind started flashing memories from after I lost my baby. They were painful memories, horrific even. The memories flooded through my mind until it overwhelmed me and I lost consciousness, like I did every session.

When I woke up, it was hours later and the hypnosis was over. I was still a bit dizzy, but Eir gave me crackers and juice and I recovered in less than twenty minutes. When I was able to, I went back to my room where Asa was waiting for me. She had already laid out my training clothes. Sif was probably already waiting for me in the private training area.

Asa helped me dress and walked with me to the training grounds before taking her usual spot on the sidelines to watch. I thanked her for her help and turned to greet Sif and start my lesson.
