《My famous boss (gxg)》Chapter 71

"I swear to God if I see that man ever inside my office I will hurt him then and there!" I say as I pace in my office.
"I don't know how it even happened. We were all inside the building." Nathan says while sitting down in one of the chairs.
"What did he take?" I ask
"I don't know. I don't even know what you had in here. The only person who was allowed in your office whenever was Marcus." He says
"I can't have one peaceful week." I say and sit down on the sofa.
"I spent the time of my life in San Francisco, only for it to be ruined by my low life uncle." I say looking down.
"I'm sorry this is happening to you" Nate says
"It's fine. You're free to go. I'll call in the tech guys to see if he took anything from the servers."
"Will you be okay? It's almost 4pm."
"Yes I will. Have a good day Nathan." I say and lean back.
The tech guys left an hour ago. I can't call them now. I swear I can't get a fucking break anymore. Why did he have to march in here? I start taking things out if the drawers and one by one I check everything. By 8pm I am left with an office that looks like a bomb exploded. There is nothing missing. What did he take for god sakes.
I take out my phone and call Edward.
"Hey there Lena." He answers
"Hey Edward, I think I need your help."
"Where are you right now?" He asks as something shuffles in the background.
"I'm in my office." I say
"I'm my way, you stay put." He says and hangs up.
I've become sort of friends with the mafia boss and he is super kind to me. He trusts me and honestly I trust him. I just feel bad about all the accusations I've received about him.
Edward came in within 20 minutes. In the mean time I cleaned a bit so there is a place for him to sit. I explained every thing to him and he listened patiently. After I was done he asked for security footage of his entry and exit and he stayed quiet.
All of a sudden he bolted up and started searching my bookshelves.
"I already checked everything. He didn't take anything from me." I say he just ignores me and continues to check every crevice.
"Okay now you're making me worried."
"What if he left something behind?" He ask bewildered.
"I didn't think of that." I say getting up
"I'll call in one of my boys from downstairs. They checked everything with me." He says grabbing his phone.
"Only if you're comfortable with that."
"Another extra hand wouldn't hurt." I say and in a matter of a minute a tall man in a suit comes in.
"Ms." He says and nods in a sign of respect. I nod back and we get to work. Why is my office so big goddammit. There are tiny little places where he could have left something.
I look behind my big english clock and find dried up glue on the wood. Savages, who would put glue on wood for Christ Sakes.
"Did you find something?" Ed asks me.
"Just some arsehole put glue on my hardwood clock." I say
"Let me see." He says and trails his fingers above it.

"Pierre come here. We need to move this clock." He says to the man and I step back.
When he moved it, on the back there was a tiny black disk glued to it.
"Get me my knives from the car Pierre it would be a shame to damage a piece like this." He says and the man disappears.
"What is this?" I ask.
"An audio transmitter. He wanted to spy on you. Bloody bastard." He says annoyed now
This is the room where all the important data circles. He thought he could gain some leverage for spying on me and gathering data. Now it's war.
The man returns with a briefcase and puts it down onto my desk. He opens it and inside there are variations of knives and all sorts of weapons. He puts on some plastic gloves and takes out one of the knives. After some time he takes it off the wood and puts it in one of those zip lock bags.
"Here is your evidence. I suggest you get a restraining order or even sue him. My image may not be the cleanest but I know my conscience is."
"Thank you Edward." I say as he takes off his gloves and shoves them into the garbage.
"No need to thank me. It's my pleasure to help out a bit, you know, get a good deed here and there." He jokes
"Either way you came over here in just minutes. What can I do to thank you?" I ask him.
"Nothing. Just stay safe and happy, and oh continue to be my friend." He says smiling shyly.
"You got it." I say and chuckle.
After we completed everything I thought he would leave. Here we are, an hour later, sitting on my couch and drinking the fancy scotch from the bar.
"You know you didn't need to help me clean all that." I say as I take a sip.
"I have no where else to be." At that his phone buzzes.
"I'd beg to differ." I tease.
"It's just my father. He can get so bloody annoying. It drives me mad." he says looking away.
"Is it because you're working with family?" I ask.
"Oddly enough, yes." He says nodding.
"I get that." I say
"You do? Princess Lena Agnes Adams had trouble?" he teases.
"Yes. I did. My father wasn't a saint either I think I told you this."
"Oh right you did. Sorry for being an asshole." He says with regret in his voice.
"It's fine." I say.
"No it's not. You can punch me here and now. I'd let you slide in some kicks as well." He says standing up.
"I'm not hitting you. Sit your ass back down." I say holding back my laughter at his silly antics.
He gets his coat and goes to put it on. His hand gets a bit too close and I flinch. He retreats his hand and moves away while looking at me strangely.
"Are you equipped to drive?" He asks
"Good as new. I only drank a glass for your information."
"It was some very good scotch." He compliments.
"Thank you. I got it as a gift." I say and we walk down to the elevator.
"Why did you flinch when I was putting on my coat?" He asks as the elevator door closes.
"Reflex I guess." I reply.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that." He says and puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Go through what?" I ask
He can't know about the abuse. Only the people who lived with me know.
"What you're thinking if right now." He says with a frown.
"I'm not... I'm" I malfunction in front of him.
The door opens and I snap out of that daze. We walk out and the cold air makes the hairs on the back of my neck rise. The tingles sober me up a bit.
"It's okay Lena. It wasn't your fault it happened." He says softly now, like he's afraid I'll faint.
"Nothing happened." I say taking off his hand from my shoulder.
"Are you sure?" He asks and I just nod and look away.
"I'm always here. I know what it can feel like. Like a part of you us stolen because he treated you that way. I'm always a phone call away if you decide to talk." He says and kindly smiles at me.
"Goodnight, have a safe drive home." He says and walks away.
"Goodnight." I say and he smiles before he steps into the car.
I drive back home and head to the kitchen to get something to eat. I feel like I'm gonna throw up.
"Hey darling, do you want to me to make you something?" Richard asks as he walks in.
"No need I'll just fry up some chichen." I say and he sits down on the bar stool.
"How was work?" He asks
"Like always." I say and start cutting the chicken.
As I wash my hands they shake a bit but thankfully Richard didn't notice.
"Those idiots sometimes don't know the difference from their head to their arse." He mutters as he scrolls though news on his tablet.
"Why are your hands shaking? Did you drink on an empty stomach again?" He asks while looking at te screen.
"I just had a glass." I say
"Sit down. I'll do the cooking." He says and ushers me to sit down.
"I got a call from your lawyer. She said she'll squeeze in a meeting tomorrow. I told her to come to the estate." He says
"Thats good."
I called my lawyer as soon as we found the transmitter. I told her everything and she said she'll tell me her schedule when she arrives home.
"What happened Lena? Why was the legal team informed?" He asks as he stirs the chicken.
"Tom put a device to spy on me, in my office." I say
"So you plan on sueing him?" He asks
"Of course."
"Bravo. I can't wait to see that man suffer." He says angrily.
"How did you find it? The device."
"With the help of Ed, he was nice enough to even make sure my clock isn't damaged."
"It turns out that man is not as bad as we thought he was. You never know right." He says
"I guess." I say
"Did you call Scarlett yet?" he asks
"No. I got carried away."
"Go and give her a call. I'll finish this and set the table for you so we can talk."
"Perfect. Thank you so much Richard."
"No need."
I called Scarlett five times, it always went to voice mail. I guess she's at work then. I'll text her instead.
"Hey, you were fast."
"It went to voice mail." I say as I sit down.
"She's busy woman. I'm not surprised." He says
"Yeah. Her schedule is pretty tight." I say
The rest of the night went smoothly. Richard and I talked and laughed and I forgot about everything. I was brushing my teeth when I got a call. It was Scar. I spit out the toothpaste and answered right away.
"Hey." I say out of breath.
"Hi. Sorry I didn't pick up earlier. My phone was in my trailer." She says
"It's fine. I understand." I say and walk to my bed to sit.
"How are you? How's work today?" She asks and I tell her all about what happened. She just hummed and listened.
"I can't believe that happened. Thank God for Edward. He helped you tons." She says.
"Yeah. Turns out he's nothing what people say he's like." I say
"Good. I'm glad you have someone over there." She says softly.
"I miss you." I say
"You just saw me the other day." she says chuckling.
"Yeah and that was way too long ago."
"Fair enough. I miss you too." She says
"I can't wait to fly over there." I say.
"Thats a first." She teases
"Hey! I'm a changed woman."
"My bad." she says and giggles.
"Will you make a party?" I ask.
"I thought I'd invite a of couple friends. We could make a sleepover and watch movies and do karaoke night." She says.
"Well whatever you decide I'm glad to attend it." I say
"Who says your invited?" she teases.
"Someone is in a teasing mood."
"What? I can't have a little fun?" She says.
"Thats not the kind of fun I had in mind." I say and she laughs.
"I can't wait to be touched by you." She whispers into the phone and my cheeks grow hot in an instant.
"Scarlett."
"What? Am I making you blush? Is that this is about?" She taunts.
"You're upset you can't come here and devour me? Huh?" She whispers into the phone again. Only this time I am holding on to the sheet under me like it is the last thing keeping me stable.
"Scarlett please stop it." I whine a bit.
"I awoke the brat I see. Do you see how it is for me. For months. I craved your fingers and I wanted for you to touch me all over my body, but you always ran away."
"I did no such thing." I tease back.
" And then that night of the premiere, when you came in with that beige outfit. All I wanted to do was to take your clothes off. You were dancing in the bar and I remember I imagined so many scenarios in my mind that night." She admits.
"Oh really?" I ask
"You have no idea how much I basically drooled all over you." She says
"Thats not what I saw." I say.
"But everyone else did. Everyone know how much I love you Lena." She says softly."
"I thought you wanted to turn me on." I tease.
"I saw the chance to confess something to you and I took it." She says and I smile at that.
"Thank you. You make me very happy." I say
"Anything for my favourite." She says.

Moonshot
Gregarious businessman Evin Tumble is fascinated by the sudden and inexplicable appearance of a low-orbiting moon. Specifically, he's interested in shooting it down with a giant cannon. The moon is only about eight miles overhead, but it's high enough and quick enough that nobody can reach it by balloon or airship. He hires our protagonists: taciturn Iseult Morrin, cheerful Sean Whelan, and nervous Íde Ceallaigh, to help him with his obsession. As our heroes are dispersed across the continent to perform tasks for Tumble, and the moon-hunt draws closer, they become increasingly suspicious of their benefactor's motives and true nature. Moonshot is a story centred around struggling with confidence, the difficulty of being an immigrant, and the duality of truth, all clad in the trappings of an urban fantasy. It is character-driven, from the heart, and based on tropes and ideas that are missing from a lot of contemporary fantasy (a push beyond the flawless-yet-somehow-still-needs-rescuing-by-an-oafish-man heroine trope, a touch of cosmic magic based on the shared geometries of Celtic and Arab art).
