The dorky blonde boy came walking down the street heading to the ice cream shop. You watched him walk from his father's grocery store all the way down the street. From where you sat against the glass window.

He had on his usual plaid button up and his light brown pants. He was on his way to try to woo Thalia Menninger, as he did every day. You sat in the background and would silently weep to the words you longed to hear him say to you.

You've liked Dobie for quite some time, in fact, it may have been love. He was girl crazy, sure, but that was only because he couldn't find his true love. You weren't sure if that was what you were, but you wanted your chance with him. You loved him for who he was— not for what he wasn't.

He bursted through the door and walked straight to Thalia's booth which was being occupied with Milton. He was talking away to Thalia and she seemed to like it. Your older brother, Maynard walked in shortly after and walked over to your table.

He sat down across from you and looked over at his best friend.

"Has he like noticed you yet?" You shook your head.

"Dobie doesn't know I'm alive. I don't think he ever will. Can't you say something to him just once?"

"I don't know, like he's really stuck on Thalia. He won't stop trying to like get her." You crossed your arms.

You'd asked your brother countless times to set you up with Dobie but he wouldn't budge. He was being pulled in two different directions. Trying to support Dobie but also wanting to see you happy.

Tears began to fall from your eyes right when Dobie walked up to your brother and patted him on the arm. Maynard looked up at his friend with a smile.

"Hey daddy-o."

"Hey, hey y/n." Dobie offered kindly but stopped when he saw you crying.

"Why don't we go for a walk?" Dobie offered. It floored you. He had said hi whenever you were around but never more than that.

"Sure."

You stood up and exited the ice cream shop. Dobie walked you down the street past his father's grocery store. He took you to a park and sat down near a big thinkers statue. He gestured for you to sit.

"What's the matter?" You sniffled and turned away.

"I've liked you for a long time and seeing you go after Thalia day after day became too much for me." You wiped your nose with your handkerchief. He embraced you tightly. You soaked in his scent.

"Was that all?" He asked with a smile present in his voice.

"All? You make it sound like a small problem."

"I didn't mean it that way." He began to rub small circles on your back.

"Let's forget it," he said trying to cover his mistake. You went with it, only because in that moment, it felt like you were his, and you wanted to enjoy every little thing.

"I shouldn't have tried to go for Thalia after all, she tried to change me."

"I've always loved you for who you were." You whispered, he heard you.

"I should've known."

He pulled away and gazed into your eyes. You gazed right back and closed your eyes. His lips fell onto yours and they were just as soft and sweet as you imagined. His arm fell to your waist and you clutched his cheeks. He pulled away and looked lovestruck.

"That's the way it should be." He said with a gleam in his eye.
