Chapter 29, Bubblegum
Have you ever watched the show, Team Umizoomi? I was petrified of the cat villain.
Xiomara and I were speaking about her date, Jaysean took her to the movies and then they went out to eat.
It was so cliché but also so cute, I'm happy for her.
"Oooh, we should listen to 'Chanel' by Frank Ocean!"
Xiomara suggested as she grabbed the remote and began to type in the music, I grabbed the LEDs remote and changed the colors to green.
Xiomara grabbed some shades and put them on, as we blasted the music.
"My guy pretty like a girl and he got fight stories to tell, I see both sides like Chanel, see on both sides like Chanel."
Xiomara sang along as we grabbed both of my brushes and used them as microphones to sing along to the song.
I laughed as she urged me to sing with her.
"Swimming laps through the pool water, heated like I'm underworld, hide my tattoos in Shibuya, police think I'm of the underworld."
I sang the next part, we kept laughing like idiots at things that weren't even funny.
This was our friendship and how it went, we would point out stupid things and giggle at them.
Soon the song ended and we searched for more songs, the sun was setting so we lowered the volume and started to get ready for bed.
I laid in bed as we searched through Netflix to find a good movie or show to binge before we went to bed, I sighed as we found basically nothing.
"Oh, oh! Let's watch.. Sofia The First?"
I asked as I clicked on the show, Xiomara nodded so I put it on.
We sang along to the theme song as if we were little girls again, we stood up and started to do different Tiktoks.

"Girls like girls, like boys do! Nothing new."
I sang along to 'Girls Like Girls' by Hayley Kiyoko.
"Ain't that the truth."
Xiomara commented making me laugh as we scrolled through our phones, soon my alarm went off to let me know I had to go to sleep now.
I looked over at Xiomara who was placing her phone on the night stand and tied her hair into a ponytail, I turned the TV off and we went to bed.
The next morning, we woke up early than normal because Xiomara had to do her curly hair and I was just bored so I wanted to watch her do her hair routine.
I walked into my bathroom, brushed my teeth and got ready for the day.
There wasn't much going on when we arrived to the school, Xiomara sat with Jaysean.
"I forgot my mascara in my locker, I'll be right back."
I told the two as I got up from my seating and walked out of the cafeteria, I walked to my locker and looked at the door to watch who came in.
At the moment, I wished I didn't but I did anyways and got consequences for it.
In came Meredith holding onto Jaden's hand, he looked fairly miserable with her now and I enjoyed it.
It made me sound evil for enjoying someone else's pain but I just don't like how he switched up on me, for his own pleasure and probably Meredith's.
As we made eye contact, I felt a piece of my heart break off and die.
Everything felt like it was in slow motion, j sighed and grabbed my mascara.
I'm sorry I didn't kiss you, but it's obvious I wanted to...
I stared as he stopped by his locker to grab his things, Meredith was scrolling through her phone.

Something I wouldn't do, I would probably make jokes or kiss his cheek.
Bubblegum down my throat and it's a curse, but my luck couldn't get any worse..
Once he finished with his locker, he closed it and grabbed Meredith's hand as if it were a chore and walked away.
Meredith looked over at me and didn't smirk or anything, she just stared at me like I was some treat she was waiting to eat.
'Cause I swallowed the bubblegum. Oh, these seven years will be pretty dumb..
I snapped out of my trance and slammed my locker shut, I walked to my homeroom since the bell was about to ring.
Throughout the whole day I was stuck in some trance, it was like I couldn't focus for the life of me.
When we were finally allowed to leave, I waited for Xiomara to come so we can drive home and pick up my dad.
My dad got in the passengers seat and we drove to the hair salon, we were talking about different childhood TV shows.
Have you ever watched the show, Team Umizoomi? I was petrified of the cat villain.
I spoke as I parked in front of the salon, my dad laughed at me causing me to roll my eyes.
We got out the car and walked inside of the salon, we had an appointment so we were able to get our hair done right away.
I was really nervous on how my hair would turn out, I didn't want it to come out bad.
My dad said if it did then we can just shave it, I did not want to be twinsies with Jada Pinkett.
That sounds harsh but haven't you heard? She's divorcing Will Smith because of the slap scandal, at least Will didn't have the Will to cheat on you.
I closed my eyes and waited for Xiomara to say she was ready to look at our hair, when she said she was ready, we opened our eyes.
We squealed in excitement, I looked good and she looked even better.
"We look amazing!"
Xiomara finally spoke out, we were both in shock so we didn't say anything for a good fifteen minutes.
I agreed with her and paid for our hair before leaving the salon, next up was my piercings.
"Can you tutor me in Spanish? I'll pay you."
I asked Xiomara as we walked upstairs to my room, she looked at me like I was an idiot and declined the money but accepted the offer in helping me.
I wanted to pay her though, she doesn't think I know but her dad's being put in a different jail, which was in all the way in California.
Her birthday is in March 14th, I know she wants to see him so she could use the money to visit him and catch him up on all the things.
"Don't be ridiculous, I wanna pay you."
I continued, Xiomara gave up after an hour of trying to convince me to not pay her and accepted the payment.
As we continued to do some work, I was spacing out again.
I looked out the window and sighed, I closed my eyes but all I say was Jaden.
I'm sorry I didn't kiss you, but it's obvious I wanted to...

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Please use your best judgment, and don't be afraid to take breaks and come back later. I'll still be here! [Discord] - come hang out and chat! Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
