《Hero's Undercover Aide》Side story - 2

I sat under the tree and looked at the clear blue sky and looked around my surroundings. Kids running, playing on the playground, old couples and mothers with strollers taking walk. It is quite a fine weather to take a nice walk and enjoy the sunshine. But I decided to relax and enjoy my surroundings. My eyes fell on a mother taking care of his son who injured his knee while playing. As I stared at it, I could feel a knot forming in my stomach. I thought to myself what if my mother looked after me the way that woman was taking care of his son. I tried to picture my mother looking at me with loving gaze and embracing me with her warmth. Haah...... why did I suddenly think about it.

I close my eyes and open my eyes recalling my forgotten memories. I was lying on the crib meeting the eyes of servants staring at me with malicious gazes. They whispers that I am a cursed child who killed my mother. I would stare at them in confusion not knowing what it meant. Besides brother Allan, there was another person who loved me and treated me as a blessing - my caretaker, Susan. She took care of me until I reached four years. The time spent with her was unforgettable moments. Whenever she would read me hero Arnon's story, my eyes would shine imagining myself as a hero. After all, his story would make any child to dream to be like him.

"Susan, when I grow up, I will also become a world's hero!" I would say pumping my fists in air in excitement.

Susan chuckles seeing my excitement, "Yes, you will. That time, I will honor you with a flower crown."

I pick up a twig and swing it like a sword, "I'll go place to place and save people from monsters."

Suddenly a thought comes across my head, "Did Hero Arnon meet any person he likes?"

She calls me to sit on her lap. I walk towards her and sits where she told me to. She tickles my sides making me laugh uncontrollably, "And then 'Great Hero Teivel' name will be written down in history books." she stops after a brief moment and then continues to say, "He did. I am sure you will as well. That person will stay by your side and protect you in times of danger."

"Really?" I look at the sky, "I hope that person loves me for who I am."

I rest my head on her chest enjoying her motherly warmth not knowing that it will be my last day of seeing her. The next morning I went searching for her but there was no trace of her anywhere. I even went to our usual spot as well hoping to find her there. But to no avail. I went to father's office to know where she went. Back then he never cared about me so he never answered. So I went back to room waited and waited for her to come but she never came.

I again open my eyes staring at Akiara's gravestone that was filled with flowers. I never thought that fate would let me meet my caretaker again after so many years since I never believed in it until I met Akiara. An elderly woman places a bouquet of flowers on her grave and stands beside me. She clasped her hands and closed her eyes praying. At first I didn't care who. A sudden realization hits me and I again glance at her. My eyes grow wide recognizing her. Despite having wrinkles on her face, there was no way I would ever forget that familiar face. She aged beautifully. I am happy that she lived her life a happy one. I suddenly remembered the silly promise I made when I was a kid. Smiling like an idiot with tears in my eyes, I couldn't hold back my emotions. She looked at me. She hands me a handkerchief to wipe my tears. Ah.... she didn't recognize me.

"Are you not going to honor me with a flower crown, Susan?" I blurt out as I accept her handkerchief.

Her eyes grew wide hearing what I said. She came closer and examined my face closely.

"Your face looks familiar.... like lady Brianna.... there's only one person who would say those words." She said with skeptical look.

"Susan, I kept my promise and became a Hero." I continue to say.

She covers her mouth with her hands staring at me in disbelief. She finally recognizes me. She gently touches my face with tears falling her eyes.

"Teivel, is that you?" she brings me to a hug.

I hug her back letting my emotions out, "Yes. I have so many things to tell you, Susan."

"Me too." she lets go off me, "You grew up beautifully. You look exactly like your mother."

"Where did you go leaving me alone all these years?"

"I'm sorry. You have every right to be angry at me. I was forced to leave your side on your fourth birthday. I wasn't even allowed to send you letters so there was no contact between us."

"I don't care about it anymore. I am happy to see you again, Susan." She smiles in response.

That day, I talked to her like an eager child talking to her mother with excitement and she listened to every words I said.

I sigh thinking about it. I open my eyes to meet mine with Kei's. Her expression looked worried. I noticed that the sky's color was slowly changing to orange pinkish color.

"Teiv, do you know how worried I was when you weren't picking up your phone?!" Kei nearly shouts at me.

I take out my phone to see the time and six missed calls from her. "Sorry, I think I fell asleep so I didn't answer your call." I stand up dusting my clothes off and hug her, "I am sorry. It won't happen again."

She hugs me back, "I accept your apology. Don't make me worry again. Let's go home."

I let go off her and wrap my arm around her, "Why don't we eat out tonight?"

"Sure. What do you want to eat?"

"How about Korean barbecue?"

"Sure I guess." I lay my head on her shoulder as we walk away making our way to restaurant.
