《Manan - Entangled》Part 34

Days were passing by.
One day when Nyonika was going to an orphanage, she asked Manik if he would like to join her. He didn't try to avoid like earlier and readily agreed. Nyonika took him to the same orphanage Manik had volunteered at earlier. From the moment he stepped in to the orphanage, nostalgia hit him. It was there he had spent a lot of time with Nandini and had also got to know her well, and his hatred for her had slowly faded and had made place for love though he hadn't realized it then. Manik visualized Nandini everywhere around him.
Manik's thoughts : "If only I could go back in time, I would have stopped you from leaving..."
He came out of his thoughts on hearing Nyonika.
Nyonika : "Are you alright? You seem a bit off."
Manik : "I am fine mom."
A few people who recognized Manik came and spoke to him, and they also asked him about Nandini.
Manik : "I don't know how she is. .. She left the college."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On their way back home,
Nyonika : "You seem to have become famous there. .. and who is Nandini? You never mentioned about her."
Manik : "She was my partner there."
Nyonika : "Why did she leave college? Where did she go?"
Manik : "I couldn't meet her before she left, so I have no idea where she went."
Nyonika had sensed that Manik wasn't his usual self from quite sometime and he seemed off that day. Also, she sensed a sadness in his voice whenever he mentioned that Nandini had left college and he didn't know how she was.
Nyonika : "When did she leave?"
After hearing Manik's response, Nyonika felt that the change in Manik is more or less connected to Nandini leaving the college. On probing further, Manik told Nyonika everything about Nandini - from how he met her and how they planned to take revenge from her, how he realized his mistake and how he tried to return her favor, till the time she left and he realized that he had fallen for Nandini.
Nyonika felt bad at first because his son had agreed to play with a girl's life, but she was glad that he realized his mistake in time and he had tried to help her instead of ruining her life. She tried to uplift her son's mood.
Nyonika : "I gave the credit, for leading you to volunteering, to Cabir for no reason, whereas the credit should actually go to Nandini. I should be grateful to her for more than one reason. .. She has managed to change all our lives for the better."
Nyonika : "Usually, parents try to solve children's problems. In our case, the son had to fall in love to resolve the parents' issue .. When you have managed to resolve an issue which has been there for so many years in a very short time, you will be able to resolve this as well. Don't worry, everything will fall in place. I will pray to God that you find her soon."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nandini was always on Manik's mind, but after the visit to the orphanage, Manik was missing her more than usual. That night,
Manik's thoughts : "I was living a carefree life though my near ones were leading a life of chaos. Then you walked into my life, and because of you the misconceptions they were living with, got cleared. Their future will also be set sooner or later. But what about me? You left me in a state of uncertainty."
Manik's thoughts : "I was far away from this world of love. You invoked these feelings in me, and left even before I could realize it. Now, I am immersed in love, but you aren't with me... It is not that I can't live with your past memories, but I wish to create new ones with you by my side."
Manik's thoughts : "You used to disappear before I could reach you earlier too, but this time it appears that you have made up your mind not to return. .. How long do I have to wait like this? .. Sometimes I feel I am being punished for having thought of trapping and dumping you. That's why I am not able to find a single clue as to where you are."
After figuring out why his parents and Mukti's relationship hadn't been successful as it should have been, Manik had come to the conclusion that it wasn't love which was the issue. The issue was that they had trusted others over their partners and come to conclusions without confronting their partners directly. Manik's mind was clear when it came to their distant future, but that was dependent on his immediate future which was still fuzzy, and it would remain so till he meets Nandini.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Manik was waiting eagerly to meet Nandini, whereas Nandini had learnt to live with his memories. Her nightmares were replaced by dreams of Manik and her together. She didn't daydream of a future with Manik, but she didn't have control over the dreams she had at night.
Nandini's thoughts : "You had already captured my mind and my heart, and now you have captured my dreams too. Dreams seem a lot better than the reality though, because you are there with me in it. It would have been so nice if the dreams never came to an end, then you wouldn't disappear as soon as I open my eyes."
Love had changed Nandini's life for the better. She hadn't forgotten her past, but it didn't bother her as much as it did earlier. She had accepted her present, that is she would continue to love Manik without any expectations. Music had become a part of her life once again. Nandini had at least started giving a thought about her future.
Arya had a meeting with one of his clients, but he figured out that he wouldn't be able to go, so he was planning to postpone the meeting. Harshad volunteered to go instead of Arya, and though Arya hesitated at first, he agreed later.
Harshad was on his way back home after the meeting. There was a major accident on the main road, so he had to take a detour into the side road which was narrow. He was distracted for quite sometime while driving and as a result was about to hit a person walking by. Harshad steered his vehicle immediately to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but he ended up banging into a tree. He was injured and was admitted to the hospital.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arya got a call about Harshad's accident. He informed Mukti, and she and his friends joined Arya. After a long journey, they reached the hospital where Harshad was admitted at. Arya got a call just before they entered Harshad's room, it was Nandini's.
Nandini : "The Doctor was here, so I couldn't leave before you reached here. I heard voices at the door, and I couldn't think of where to hide immediately, so I got into the bathroom for now."
As soon as they entered Harshad's room,
Cabir : "It was a long journey. I need to use the bathroom immediately."
Arya ran before Cabir could reach the bathroom.
Arya : "I need to use it very urgently .. my tummy is very upset."
Arya didn't even wait for Cabir to respond, and he entered the bathroom. Nandini had unlatched the door after hearing Arya's voice. Arya and Nandini had to whisper to each other to avoid being heard from outside.
Nandini : "How do I go out from here?"
Arya looked around the bathroom.
Arya : "The only other option, apart from the door, is the ventilator."
Nandini didn't want anyone else to know that she was there. So, Arya helped Nandini to go out, through the ventilator, and then he came out of the bathroom.
Cabir : "What took you so long?"
Arya : "I told you my tummy was very upset."
Arya : "I will meet the doctor and be back."
Arya went out of the hospital immediately and met Nandini.
Arya : "Are you Alright?"
Nandini : "Yes I am. You saved me."
Nandini told Arya whatever the doctor had told her, and she left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arya came back to Harshad's room and informed the same. Harshad woke up after a while.
Mukti / Alya : "How did the accident happen?"
Harshad : "There was a major accident on the main road. It reminded me of the day Nandini had met with an accident, and I got distracted. I tried to avoid hitting a pedestrian, and ended up banging into a tree."
Harshad was looking at the entrance of the room very often.
Alya : "Mom called up and informed that she and dad will reach here by night."
Harshad continued to look at the entrance now and then.
Mukti : "Are you waiting for someone else?"
Harshad : "I felt that Nandini was around, so I was hoping that she might walk in anytime."
Arya : "Did you see her here?"
Harshad : "I don't know for sure, but I felt that it was she who admitted me here."
Arya : "Oh! You had been thinking of her before the accident and then you were on medications too, may be that's why you felt that she was around. I checked at the reception and it is not Nandini who admitted you here."
Arya had tried to divert Harshad. It was actually Nandini who had seen that Harshad had met with an accident. She had admitted him to the hospital, and also stayed with him till they reached.
Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel.Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters.There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain?So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
