I caught one! I caught one!

I went to my father,

He said congratulations,

‘Make a wish little one,’ the monkey said,

‘Go on, make a wish,’ my father said,

I rejoiced, How wonderful,

To have caught a monkey,

By its soft plump toe,

Oh how wonderful,

To make a wish.

I whisper into the monkey's ear,

“Money, big-breasted women, land, a mansion, a garden, a chicken coop, a bunch of sheep, a library, a pool to dip my feet, a pond to jump into, a large oak tree, to find shade, a greenhouse, for the flowers and the butterflies, a bedroom to rest in, a basement to hide things, a journal, for my homework, a computer, for my record, a rack, for my keys, a kitchen, a dining room, to eat my peas, an exit, to make my peace.”

The monkey said, “Hmmm…”

The father said, “Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm… I think I have to poop.”

I simply laughed, I said, “Well, shove it back in.”

The chicken crows,

Value was tested,

And the monkey made his decision,

“Who said I would grant it?” He said.

And my face flushed and I got embarrassed,

And I said, “Please don’t tell anyone, what I wished for.”

And the monkey shakes his head,

And the father bowed his head,

And I felt like crying,

“It is not I who weighs it all out,

Not I who arranges the pieces,

Not I who decides worth, profit, risk, and potential,

Nor is it I who is being tested,

It is not I, the gatekeeper,

Not I, the soft cushion weaver,

No, but you did catch the monkey’s toe,

And you did speak your wish out into the world,

Good job.” He said before hopping away.

I wipe the sweat off my brow,

“Just imagine the price of what I wished for.” I said,

My father smiles,

“Oh, I have.” He says, before walking back, to his house.

I shake my head.

I wonder what happens when you catch a bunny toe.

Will I get to eat it?
