《The Vale》C19

"And where the hell do you think you are going?" The headmaster asks as I step into the hall with my backpack. I know it's not wise what I'm doing, leaving in the middle of all this but I need to leave this place and find Jessica somehow.

I ignore him and hasten my pace. "Do you even know where you are going?" He asks again and I can feel him right behind me.

Great question, Headmaster. I have absolutely no idea where I'm going. I have no clue where to start my search for Jessica and I'm not sure I want dive into that. The Theo guy doesn't seem like someone I want to mess with, the look on Jessica's face when he had her under compulsion is one I will never forget, how lifeless she looked.

I shrug, adjusting my backpack. "Away from all of you and I'm going to find her." I tell him, not stopping.

"Before you make the decision, come with me, I have something to show you." He says.

Yeah right.

"Just leave me alone, Headmaster Wallace." I mock.

I stop abruptly when Roman suddenly appears in front of me. I scoff and look behind me to see the headmaster and Nate. "Ganging up on me?" I roll my eyes.

"No, Cams. You know I care about her too but listen to what Headmaster Wallace has to say." Nate chirps in. I'm sure that's the main reason he is here, to cajole me. And he doesn't care about her, he has only seen her once before today.

I close my eyes and sigh. "Five minutes and then I'm out." might as well hear what they have to say.

The Headmaster nods in agreement.

"Before you go, I want you to know that I'm very sorry for what happened earlier," he tells me in his most sincere tone. "And also for your friend."

I give him a curd nod and follow Nate to his office. I toss my backpack on one of accent chair in his office and take a seat on his desk. Nate and Roman goes to coffee table and roll out a map.

"I'm going trying finding her through location spell." Roman says and gets to work.

"Who is that man and what does he want with Jessica?" I ask curiously.

I haven't really had time to think about it since it happened. I'm still trying to process it.

"Your friend is a sage." The headmaster confirms.

"Is the meaning of my sage the same as yours?"

"A wise person or spiritual teacher, a stoic philosopher." That’s the highlight definition of a sage.

"Okay, so how is Jessica a sage? She's not even a-" I cut myself off when everything started to make sense.

I remember the first time we met. It was the first day of sixth grade, my parents and I just moved from Manhattan and I was the new kid. Some kids were trying to bully me, classy first day move in school but Jessica stood up for me, and to this day I never knew why and I never asked. We became quick friends and she inspired me to be tough.

She never seemed like she's different. Definitely doesn't look like a sage. Wait... Does she know? Is that why she wanted to come here?

And then I remember what happened the day of the game.

"Explains why the magic you casted in West High didn't work on her." I mutter under my breath. "Why can't I just have a good day for once in my fucking life?" I groan and pull my hair. "Tell me about that man," I turn to the headmaster, who is standing next to Nate, watching what Roman is doing.

My brain is too full to accept any more explanation, first the expérience hors du corps and now I find out that one of my oldest friend is a sage.

The headmaster shrugs like it's not important. "There is nothing to talk about. He is just a man with scary scars, bad personality and weird powers," he answers casually.

Something tells me that he isn't telling the whole truth. "You seem like you knew him but he doesn't know you, or he does and just didn't care." The headmaster was extremely terrified of him, which is why he froze when Theo got to Jessie or I was seeing the whole thing wrong.

"Found her." Roman announces. I jump off the desk and rush to his side.

"Where?" I ask, staring at the map.

"Fifty five miles from here." He answers.

I clap my hands. "Good! Let's get going."

"Let's go over the plan again." Nate urges us as we stand guard and look ahead. Roman's location spell tracked Jessica here, and I don't know where here is. It looks like an abandoned building and somehow it feels kind of familiar like I have been here before but if I have, I would know.

We've been driving for hours, the guys took turns, I didn't drive because I don't have my driver's license and I don't know how to read maps.

"Get in, get Jessica and get out." Roman list the plan we came up with, I'm glad they are helping me with this. I wouldn't have to do it on my own, but before we go busting in and saving the day, we need to know what we are up against and the only person that can tell us more is avoiding the subject.

The Headmaster made us promise not to make any noise because the abandoned building is located in a deserted area and the building is the only thing visible aside from nature. We are risking our cover by talking because of the echo of our voices.

"Sounds good when you are playing hide and seek," I shrug and turn to the headmaster. "Come on headmaster, how powerful is this guy?"

He needs to tell us, we need to know what we are about to walk into, most of all we need to know why he took Jessica.

He sighs and removes the binoculars from his eyes. "Very powerful, Lord Voldermort kind of powerful. Well, it's a good thing Roman cloaked us, he won't see us coming," he answers. His reply is too casual for my liking.

I look beside me to see Nate and Roman shrugging like his behavior isn't bothering them. It feels to me like he's holding something back. I don't know how to explain it but I know there is more to the Theo guy than he is letting on.

"You are avoiding the gist of the story. Who is Theo?" I demand and not ask this time, I'm losing my patience and God knows what Jessica is going through in there.

"His name is Arihmatheo, as in you pronounce it together and he's no one important," there he goes again with this shit.

I groan and pass Nate my Binoculars. "Screw this, I'm going in." I hurry my pace as I walk away without waiting to hear what they are saying.

We don't know anything about this building or the man that captured Jessica. The headmaster made it clear before we left school that this might be dangerous and asked us to be careful. Nate and Roman shared a look, which made me curious. I followed them after we were given five minutes to prepare. The boys went to the basement of the school but to my surprise, it wasn't a basement at all, it was an armory, Why would a boarding school have an armory? I didn't ponder on the question as I helped myself with the first weapon I saw: sword. I left there before the boy could see me.

I stop at the entrance and it's weird that there is no one guarding it, it’s even open. It's like they are waiting for someone to come, and I'm taking the bait. I step into the building and walk. There is definitely something familiar about this place, I can't put my finger on it but I know I have been here before, which is crazy because I have never seen this building or don't remember seeing it, either way this feels crazy.

An awful odor passes my nose. I snuff my nose at that odor, it smells like death in here. My feet, curious and scared mind, carries me to the direction of the approaching footsteps. Someone's here.

I step into a room that looks like a laboratory. There are different kinds of stuff here and the amount of pods in here make it creepy as hell. One of the pods are occupied while the others are not, because they are open.

I see Jessica laying on a table and Arihmatheo looking over her like she's some sort of lab experiment. Something about that table and this room is giving a crazy deja vu, I'll think about it later, I have more pressing matters to attend to.

I take out the sword, dropping the pouch. "Get away from her, you psychotic maniac." I warn as I grip the sword with both hands and point it at him, Jessica is unconscious, I hope am not too late.

He freezes and holds up his hands in surrender. "I would recognize that courage anywhere. Would recognize that aura anywhere. Would-" I stop his stupid talk.

I take a step closer. "Quit the rhyming and stay the fuck away from her," I warn again and take another step, I can feel my hands shaking in fear. I'm afraid but I can’t let it show, I need to be courageous and bold to save Jessica.

He chuckles and drops his hand and places it by his side. "You don't wear the family symbol with honor. You don't wear the house glyph with pride," he proceeds with his silly talk. He turns to me and takes a deep breath as his eyes meet mine, he smiles. "But you are your father's daughter." he says.

What is this? How does he know my father and what the hell is he talking about?

"What the hell is this stupid babble?" I question with a high pitch voice, I swear I am going to impale him if he takes another step closer to me.

He smirks like he's getting the reaction he wants out of me. "That's the spirit little princess." He comments.

I lower my hold on the sword to try and process what this guy is saying. "What the-" He interrupts me.
