《Racing for her love: A Madison Beer fanfiction》Chapter 21 || There's nothing holding me back

The data made no sense at all, every strong aspect of our car lacks on this circuit, traction out of the slow corners is a disaster and the battery made no sense as well... I'm clueless about this.

The Friday was a struggle, although our cars finished P1-2 in both practice sessions, it felt like it was on ice every lap. The Mercedes cars look way more conserving for their tires, the pace in the long runs is concerning for us.

I looked at the time and I realized I've been here for far too long. 2AM... Mads must be concerned, I should head back to my motorhome. I walked through the dark halls. The data center looks different when it's empty.

There were barely people out, A few mechanics of the Haas F1 team who were unfortunate enough to rebuild a whole chassis after Schumacher shunted the car in turn 10, a left hander, easy to lose the rear if your entry line is wrong.

I continued the walk back. It's a strange feeling to walk in the paddock that's completely silent.

I arrived at the trailer and entered, there I found Madison asleep on the couch, having her with me at this grand prix is like a dream. My mom couldn't attend this weekend, so having Madison by my side is a relief.

She woke up from me entering.

Buppy, why are you back so late? I've really really missed you... She looked at me with the puppy eyes.

Just nothing makes sense, our car lacks drivability for me and the tires burn out too fast. I'm frustrated by it.

Well tomorrow is a new day, you should rest a bit buppy. Madison yawned mid sentence.

Of course I will baby, come here. I carried Madison to the bed and we snuggled up to each other.

We both fell into a peaceful and cozy sleep.

Y/N, ready? My radio was working perfect.

More then ready, let's see what we can get out of it.

I pulled the clutches in and drove out of the garage.

The track was more rubbered in now through all the feeder series that have ran here before we got out and it was noticeable when driving out the pits.

The morning session finished quick and although we improved our long run pace drastically, I'm still not satisfied with the way the car handles.

Do you want to completely change the setup of the car Y/N? Jeff frowned.

No, we'll run it like this, if I can get ahead of both Mercedes cars, I'll make it work.

I went for lunch with Madison, while the Mazda MX5 cup ran their first race of the weekend.

Buppy, promise me you'll stay safe, I don't want you in the hospital or anything.

Don't worry Mads, I'll be okay.

Promise me you won't get a concussion and forget about the last few weeks. Madison looked at me with a certain look.

Babe, don't worry, I'll make sure to get out of the car unaided in any scenario, alright?

Pinky promise buppy?

I brought up my pink and we made the promise.

Time rushed and before I knew it, it was time for qualifying.

I mentally prepped myself, the pressure is on right now, we might not have the fastest car over a whole race right now, but smart thinking can help a lot.

Nothing is gonna hold me back...

I stepped into the car and one of my mechanics strapped me into the car. I placed my steering wheel in place and the dash turned on.

Alright Y/N, focus now, 10 seconds till the pitlane is open, we'll wait till the first laps have been set.

The first five minutes I said, waiting for the laps to tune in. Tyler was quick.

Alright Y/N, we'll go out for a run, you know the routine.

Copy Jeff. I pulled the clutch paddles in and my mechanics lowered my car on the ground. Four other mechanics removed the tire warmers, one moment before I drove out.

I started my outlap, very carefully, getting the battery charged up as much as I could.

And recharge of Y/N.

I exited the last corner with a slight amount of oversteer, nothing too bad as I powered over the main straight. The first run only put me in P5.

The second qualifying started soon after, and we managed to just qualify for the top 10 shoot out.

Alright Y/N, this is it lad, we might not achieve what we hoped for, but let's settle for the best we can get.

The first run in Q3 was terrible, I nearly crashed in turn 10, but good enough for P3.

Okay Y/N, we go out for one last time, just get out there and do what you can do best.

As I got into the last sector, Jeff gave me the sign to go, to avoid any traffic.

Recharge off, Y/N.

I did, as I smoothly exited the last hairpin, I powered past the main straight again with my rear wing opened as wide as possible, going over the line at the perfect time, right before the flag drops.

I arrive at turn 1, a fast left hander. I used a little blue line on the pit exit lane as a reference point, downshifting from 8th to 3rd gear, using a small amount of curb, not too much as that would send me straight into the barrier, I made it perfectly through there, I nearly stripped the paint of the tire wall as I got as close to it as I humanly could.

I upshift to 4th gear as soon as I clear turn 1, only to downshift back to 2nd, as I had another near miss with the wall in turn 2, a left hander with only one proper line, I hit the apex absolutely perfect.

The 3rd corner was a left hander cleared as I nearly clip the wall on the exit phase of the corner.

Turn 4, a corner to the right also taken in 2nd gear one of the easiest to get wrong, I use a specific sponsor board on the inside as a reference point for the braking, taking as much curb as the car allows me to take without upsetting her.

Into turn 5, a very similar corner to turn 4, but this time, I use a change in asphalt color as my reference point, since it's uphill, I can get away with braking later then I usually would, I touch the outside wall in the most gentle way possible as I try to make the entry as wide as possible, the car took it really well. I avoid the inside curb as it's really bumpy, which in combination of the corner going downhill on the exit would make the rear extremely unstable. On the exit of the corner, I had needed to make a small correction of oversteer, but I got away with it.

I then got about 4 seconds to catch my breath, as I approach turn 6, braking around 150 meters before the corner, using as much inside curb as possible, going as wide as possible on the exit over a little compression, which also leads into turn 7, which is more a straight with a mini bend in it.

Turn 8, I brake around 180 meters before going into the extremely tight right hander before powering down the backstraight, activating DRS, before I had turn 9 coming up.

A fast right hander was my next challenge, as I brake at 200 meters for turn 9, downshifting from 7th to 3rd gear, hitting the apex while running as wide as possible on the exit while going to 4th gear before having to prepare myself for the quick and tricky turn 10.

A long left hander with a double apex, taken into 3rd gear, with the second one being vital to my approach to turn 11.

I brake quite early for the hairpin and I downshift to first gear, rotating the car here is quite tricky, but I managed to get through by using the throttle a bit. As a result, I get a tiny amount of oversteer, but it's exactly what I needed.

I power onto the straight with DRS activated again and blast over the finish.

As soon as I pass the line, I recharge my battery again.

Y/N Y/L/N, you are a Formula 1 pole sitter, fantastic, what a lap there lad.

I couldn't believe what I heard and I don't even remember anything of the lap itself.

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO.

The whole crew was screaming from excitement and I myself couldn't believe it either. My boyfriend is officially a Formula 1 pole sitter.

Y/N drives the car in front of the P1 board and climbs out of the cockpit and waves to the crowd.

Y/N took off his helmet and drinks his bottle of water, smiling from ear to ear.

David Coulthard approached Y/N for the post qualifying interview

Y/N Y/L/N you are a polesitter in Formula 1, the youngest one, tell us, how did you do that? Where did that pace come from?

I don't even know, I just felt the car and concentrated on what I had to do. Y/N smirked.

You outqualified Tyler with 5 tenths! Tha- David couldn't finish his sentence as Y/N didn't know what he heard

How much? He couldn't believe what he heard.

5 tenths Y/N.

He didn't know how to act.
