《An Enchanter's Tale》Chapter 60 - Evergreen Valley

Siyu hovers the man in camouflage, now tied up and awaiting judgement.
“Why did you do it, brother?” Siyu asks with a frown.
The man looks up, smirks, then laughs to the high heavens. “Why shouldn’t I do it!? Is it not meaningless either way!? Will the world grow warmer!? Of course I felt the heat of the flames, but to heavens? Nothing!” He says, in a mad rush.
Siyu furrows his brows. “The heavens? Of what do you speak? Tell me.” He says, trying to maintain his calm.
In truth, any cultivator would be ready to pounce at news of heaven. The next step, the purpose of cultivation, to be let into that paradise was to achieve all reason for suffering in the world.
Madness found itself on Siyu’s eyes. “Heaven! What do you know!? Sssspeak!!!” He exclaims, unable to control himself.
The man in camouflage lets out a bitter smile, looks to the ground and shakes his head. “Pointless. It’s all pointless.” He says as tears stream down his eyes. “Your Blooming Flower Cult, it is an offshoot of heaven. Your boss, an angel looking over her flock. And I hope she burns!!!” The man exclaims. His cultivation energy begins to move, and within moments his body was set aflame.
Siyu’s eyes widen, but he realized it was too late. The man forced his meridians to burst to produce that flame, he was gone.
Siyu frowns and looks to the surrounding men. “What do you know of this?” He asks, not expecting much.
One of the men laughs. “I don’t know about heaven, sir. But in our cult, food, liquor and pussy is never-ending. I guess it is heaven!” The man says before laughing out loud, followed by several other men.

Siyu frowns. If it was worth only a wet and ready pussy, it wouldn’t be called heaven. No, this could be the path to salvation… Siyu thinks before feeling his head ache. He shakes his head and decides to forget the matter. His goal in cultivation was not to enter heaven… No, that path had long been cut off…
…
…
“Where to now?” Frey asks.
Siyu inhales a cloud of smoke from his pipe and breathes it out like a hungry dragon. “We go back. To Seer. The work must continue.” He says, his aching head, pulsing.
Frey smiles. “Fine. But you know, we’ve never been alone this long together. Tell me, is there anything you wish to tell me before the hubbub of tomorrow?” Frey asks, almost expecting something.
Siyu shakes his head. “Shut up and follow.” He says, leading the way by foot, following after the Blooming Flower Cult members.
They’ve built a smuggling path through the mountains. Many hidden secrets lay on this path. Many men hiding their wealth have tread down this road. Siyu looks at the beaten path, indented with footprints. How long have I been walking the path of rapists and thieves? He wonders.
…
…
After a few days through the mountains, Siyu and Frey seperated from the Blooming Flower Cult members.
Ahead was a crossroads.
Frey looks at the sign and a smile blooms on his face and he looks to Siyu.
Siyu was lost in thought. He was losing the fight against the beast within and he feared it would overtake him soon. If he didn’t increase his cultivation level to the master level, he could be lost.
Frey lets out a bitter laugh. “Siyu! Head’s up!” He calls out.
Startled, Siyu looks up, the sign entering his vision.
Frey smiles. “What do you see?” He asks with a laugh.
Siyu lets out a sigh. “Evergreen Valley.” He says, feeling an ache in his heart.

This Used to be About Dungeons
This Used to be About Dungeons is a comfy slice-of-life adventuring story that occasionally features dungeons. Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Mostly it's about walking in the woods with a friend, looking for mushrooms to put in your soup, or haggling with the guy selling squash, or taking care of a neglected garden. It's putting some jam on shortbread biscuits. And yes, sometimes you go down into the dungeons with your friends, and you kill monsters there, or disarm traps, but when you come out, you realize you've found the perfect magic item to give to one of the local kids that helped you out when your cat was sick. Look, the dungeons are always going to be there, and sometimes you need to make a journey to one of the Spirit Gates, or make a pilgrimage with the local Cleric of Symmetry to a holy shrine. Your tour through the local dungeons can wait. You'll have rivalries with other groups, and find some dungeon eggs that need to be carefully incubated in case they turn out to be something valuable, and help a friend to build a fishing weir. There's a big world out there, a mostly tame place with lots of magic, and even more to do and see. Join me, won't you?The cover image is Morning Sunlight Effect, Eragny, by Camille Pissarro.
