《A Second Chance At Romance》Twenty

"Which do you prefer chocolate or vanilla?" Liam asked as we sat on the couch watching Twilight.
Please before you judge it wasn't me Liam's the one who wanted to watch it and I agreed.
But we weren't really paying attention, we were asking each other questions.
"Definitely vanilla."
Being the dork he was he gasped loudly and placed his hand over his heart taking total offense to my choice of ice cream.
"You can't be serious?"
I nodded my head in response.
"Totally serious."
"You really like plain old vanilla? What about chocolate or even rocky road?"
"Yuck no thank you," I replied with a serious look after scrunching my nose up to him mentioning flavors I don't care for in ice cream.
"That's it we can't be friends anymore you just offended me so much."
I was a little terrified when he said that but I knew he wasn't serious by the smile on his face.
"I'm obviously kidding but I will make you like chocolate ice cream by the end of the night and that's a promise."
That smirk on his face had me very intrigued.
Please show me how you plan to do that.
"Good luck with that."
I wanted to see what he had in mind but I doubt he could persuade me to like nasty chocolate.
"I will you'll see." He assured me as he stood up from the couch, "with that being said I'll be back in twenty."
"What? Where are you going?"
"To the store."
"Why?"
I was curious to know why but he wouldn't tell me instead he leaned over and kissed the top of my head telling me he'd be back soon before leaving.
While I wait I might as well pour myself a glass of wine.
I could use some liquid courage, so I went into the kitchen and poured myself a glass.
Just as I was about to take a sip of it the doorbell rang which was a little weird because I wasn't expecting anyone.
Liam knew he didn't have to ring the doorbell so I wasn't sure if it was him or not.
Surely it wasn't because he hadn't even been gone long.
Sitting the wineglass on the counter I made my way to the front door and opened it up revealing Mason.
What is he doing here?
And if he's here where's Lexi?
"Mason what a surprise."
A not so good surprise.
"Hey Savannah, sorry I dropped in announced."
"It's fine, what do you need?"
I didn't mean to sound harsh or anything but I have no idea what he is doing here.

We aren't together anymore so he can't just show up whenever he pleases without so much as I phone call.
"Oh um." He thought about it for a second looking very confused as he rubbed the back of his neck.
He only does that when he wants to say something but doesn't know how and I hate to know what it is.
"Listen, can we talk?"
"Uh sure. Come on in." I said as I moved aside to let him inside.
I closed the door behind us as he continued to stand there silently which was very awkward considering he was the one who wanted to talk to me.
"So what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?" I asked trying to move the conversation along.
"I don't know how to put this but I'm just going to come out and say that I made a mistake."
"What kind of mistake are we talking about because from where I'm standing there's been a lot."
"Look I'm sorry about everything. I'm sorry about Carmen, cheating on you all of it."
He doesn't look very sorry to me or convincing.
"Are you sure you're truly sorry? Honestly, you don't look sorry at all, and if you are it was your choice that caused all this so I don't want a sorry from you."
The truth was I didn't want to forgive him at all but what kind of person would I be if I didn't?
Just because I forgive him for Lexi's sake doesn't mean I'm going to let what he's done slide.
This is the only second time that he's apologized the first being the day after everything happened when I caught him.
He was just sorry that he got caught.
"I really am I swear I should've never done it. I ruined our marriage over my infidelity and it was truly unfair to you and Lexi. I still love you and I want to work out things between us."
What's he trying to say?
"Well, you should've thought about that before you did it because you can't take it back now. I've moved on and well you're with Carmen now and y'all are engaged. Let's not forget that you also have a baby on the way there's no way that we are ever getting back together so your love means nothing to me."
As much as I wish it did it didn't not anymore.
Mason looked at me with a look of disappointment but I couldn't help it he dug this hole now he has to lie in it.

"Please Savannah?" He pleaded taking a step closer to me as I took a step back, "she means nothing to me."
Now that's a straight-up lie.
Obviously I didn't mean anything to him either since he cheated on me.
"No Mason please stop. I'm not doing this with you and I think it's about time you leave."
"Are you seriously going to kick me out after I just told you I made a mistake choosing Carmen?"
He can't be serious?
"Yes, I am so please leave."
How dare he start saying stuff like this after everything?
What did I do to deserve any of this?
Everything Mason and I have/shared is in the past.
Lexi is in my future and hopefully, Liam is too.
He didn't even try saying anything else instead he put his head down and went straight for the door slamming it on his way out.
When he left I was so relieved, I don't think I could handle him being at my house any longer especially not after everything he said.
Poor Carmen she had no idea that Mason was here confessing all his feelings. Why did he seriously think doing that would make all of our problems go away?
What do I even tell Liam? I mean should I even tell him that Mason was here?
If I did it would just make things awkward and if I didn't he wouldn't trust me anymore.
That's it I'm not going to say anything as much as I want to it would just ruin everything.
Besides Mason didn't mean anything to me and what he said didn't change anything therefore I'm not going to waste my time worrying about him.
"Hey, I'm back!" Liam announced as he walked through the door with a grocery bag in his hand.
I'm so happy that he's back!
I've never been so happy to hear his voice even if I heard it a little bit ago.
Without any hesitation, I went right up to him and pressed my lips to his as I brought my hands up and around his neck.
I could tell he was surprised by the contact but he didn't object to it because he dropped the grocery bag on the floor and kissed me back passionately.
Wrapping his hands around my waist he deepened the kiss, but only for a few minutes. We ended up pulling apart to catch our breaths even though I wanted more.
More kissing, not sex.
"As much as I want to keep doing this there's something I want to do first."
I wonder if it has anything to do with him going to the store. I wonder what he got and if it's anything good.
He went over and retrieved the bag which contained ice cream.
And it wasn't just any kind of ice cream it was chocolate.
What did he plan to do with chocolate ice cream?
That's when I remembered that earlier he mentioned that he was going to make me like it.
I was ready to see how this was going to unfold because I didn't see myself liking it.
I like my vanilla better.
But I was excited to see what he had in mind.
I took a seat on my couch while he went to retrieve spoons from the kitchen and with each passing moment I got more excited.
Liam then entered the room holding up the spoons in his hand while saying, "Got 'em. Now it's time to get this party started."
"But we aren't having a party."
"Shh, I know that I just wanted the opportunity to finally say it." He grinned from ear to ear making me laugh.
"Okay well let's get this party started then."
"Great I was hoping you'd say that."
Within seconds he had the lid off the ice cream and was now sitting next to me waiting on my reaction.
"I already told you I don't like chocolate."
"Yeah I know and I already told you that I will get you to like it before the end of the night."
Raising my eyebrow I smirked at him saying, "I can't wait to see what you have in mind then."
"I knew you couldn't."
With that being said he took the spoon and dipped it into the chocolate ice cream taking a bite of it.
I thought he wanted me to like it!
Why's he taking a bite?
"Mhmm so good."
Highly doubt it.
"You wanna taste?" He asked as he dipped the spoon in it once again waiting on my answer.
Did I want to?
Screw it, you only live once right?
"Yes."
He didn't say anything he just smiled and brought the spoon up to my mouth but before I could take a bite he pulled it away and took a bite instead.
Just as I was about to say something he brought his lips to mine and kissed me.
He did in fact taste like chocolate.
It was now my favorite flavor.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
