《The Legend of the North》chapter 39

Despite not being her biological grandfather, Lyaria remembers how he taught her everything she knew from a young age. She remembers the countless people he saved and also understands his inner struggle.

"Grandpa... Don't save him, but instead tell me what to do." Lyaria was very knowledgeable in medicine. Although she was missing something vitally important, the experience.

The old man approaches the boy and examines him in detail, especially the area of the wound, although he stops for a few seconds on it and continues with his hands, feet, teeth and every place that seems relevant to him.

He sighs and convinces himself that it is someone from the village and that it serves as a lesson for Lyaria.

"This is a special case... Why do you think I don't just focus on the wound?" He raises his head and asks with a serious look, he is confident in his pupil's answer.

Lyaria takes her time, examining Ezer carefully once more.

“The feet are very injured with blisters and together with the hands, they show that in the last few days he has been demanding himself to the maximum.” She caresses the worn skin of Ezer's hands.

The old man nods with satisfaction acknowledging her ability.

"Exactly, and not only that. He also has internal organ damage, although there is no bleeding. In that he is lucky.” He presses his experienced fingers on Ezer's abdomen and manages to recognize the damage.

"Is that why he can't regain consciousness? And the black spots on the wound?” She also palpates the areas guided by the old man.

“Everything is the cause.” He looks at the young man's face and answers.

“Eh? Everything?” She can't help but be slightly surprised.

“The black stains come from mana intoxication, it's clear that the beast he fought against possessed some kind of corruption within him.” He pauses momentarily and then continues. “Um… This…. This goes beyond medicine. It almost seems like a curse, it weighs on the boy flowing through his body. It cannot be practiced without consequences, it is clear that the beast used its last breath.”

Lyaria is amazed at the old man's ability and this makes her know that she still has a long way to go before she can compare with him.

"Then there must be something to counteract the toxin." She sighs in relief.

"I don't know, curses aren't something you can touch. This beats any of my experiences, I'm in the dark on this one.” He says it almost whispering, but Lyaria hears him perfectly.

"Something even Grandpa doesn't know about?" She pales when recognizes that the chances of survival for Ezer diminished.

"Grandfather, let's try the antidotes we have and see if it works." She doesn't get depressed and tries to find a solution.

“Don't rush, you know that you can't administer too much at once, it would have the opposite effect. However, we can use the safest ones and those that have good compatibility when mixed.” Without realizing it, the old man began to put all his efforts into saving him.

Ezer's body was flooded with antidotes that entered his throat, through his veins or on the wounds trying to eradicate the toxin.

"I can't be sure if anything works or doesn't. I need time... and time is the last thing this young man has.” Small beads of sweat formed on the exhausted old man's forehead.

"We can’t just leave it to the hands of luck." Lyaria clenches her hand tightly into a fist.

"We can let fate decide or try the last option." He didn't want to mention it, but knew that if Lyaria found out in the future, she wouldn't forgive him. "If we don't know the remedy... just use one that will cure any poison or toxin. But I need an ingredient, just one ingredient for the cure.” The old man speaks slowly knowing that the words he had spoken would endanger the young woman before his eyes.

"What's the ingredient? If it's about the price, I've got-” She's cut off mid-sentence.

“Weeping flower. You know what it means?” He looks into her eyes testing her resolve.

Lyaria's eyes widen in surprise. She was expecting the ingredient to be expensive, though not that expensive. She reaffirms is position and nods slightly, returning the old man's gaze.

“In three. No, in two days I will have it in my hands.” Lyaria wastes no time as she begins packing various items into a leather bag.

"What do you owe this young man?" What did he do for you to sacrifice yourself in this way?” The old man is one of the people who knows her best, and so he knows that she has to have a good reason for it.

Lyaria takes off all the clothes she was wearing and answers the old man with her back turned.

“Because he gave me a name.”

His body begins to change as the bones, muscles, tendons, organs and even genes are modified creating a sight difficult to take in the first time one sees it.

The young woman disappears and is replaced by a beautiful white wolf who exudes an aura of magnificence. The blue eyes seemed to be able to penetrate to the soul and steal it without any effort.

Lyaria never looks back as she walks away from the cave and deeper into anything known to humans.

Pride, that's what the old man felt as he turned his attention back to Ezer.

“All I can do is stabilize him until she gets back.” The old man deals as best he can with the life that depends on Lyaria's efforts.

The sun was at its highest point while Lyaria bordered small and large lakes that were connected to each other by small veins of water. A unique landscape was created when the water surfaces reflected sunlight like mirrors.

Though she had no time to stop and admire them, his strong paws left footprints on the ground as she ran several times faster than a human in his animal form.

His fur shimmered and his rhythmic breathing only stopped to momentarily sniff the air. His direction suddenly changes after checking the air with his nose and she makes a detour of kilometers that consume valuable time.

“Apparently they desisted from following me.” Lyaria was starting to wear out, despite her sturdy body, after running without a break.

“The beasts are too active. I would like to go slower and safer, but I don't have that luxury.” After psyching herself up again, she continues the search.

The mountains gave way abruptly to another valley riddled with lakes fed by meltwater from their peaks. Although this flat ground does not last long and is followed by imperfections that form sudden abysses.

“The dangerous begins now.” Lyaria clearly knew what kinds of things inhabited these little-known lands.
