Chapter XLVII

A jolt awakes me from my sleep. My eyes instantly land on the ceiling fan above my bed, making me groan.

I'm safe

I let out a breath, releasing all the tension that was in my body still staring at the ceiling fan circling above me.

My heart rate calmed itself until I realized something.

There isn't a ceiling fan in Atlas' room.

I fly off the bed with this thought sinking into me. When I look around the room I grow even more confused as I don't recognize this place at all.

The ceiling was not connected to walls as it stayed out over me. The ground was a mossy grass and I was in the middle of a forest.

Birds sang in harmony while the water of the stream in front of me splashed onto the rocks.

It was beautiful.

"Atlas?" I call into the forest but I never get a response. It didn't make me uneasy like I expected it to but instead I stayed calm.

I started approaching the stream, noticing little tadpoles swimming about, when a women appeared on the other side.

She was gorgeous. Her brown hair flowed down to her thighs and her body wore a light white dress. Her feet were bare as she walked across the water to me.

"Who are you?" I ask taking a few steps back. Then a cold truth came into mind as the Goddess of a woman kept pursuing me, "Oh my Goddess, am I dead?!"

A laugh came from her as she shook her head when she came to a stop before me, "No, darling you are not. My name is Adira."

"Then where am I?" I growled losing a bit of patience, "where are my parents? Where is my mate?"

She didn't seem threatened at all as she reached out pushing my hair over my shoulder revealing my mark, "you are exactly where you need to be, but not where you belong, Darling. You remind me so much of your father."

"What do you mean?" I lower my defenses and tilt my head slightly in question.

"Only time can tell you, but for now, I think a certain Alpha is worried sick about you and is very angry. Just know, your existence is a gift Everly. Never let anything change you."

Just like that a cold wave hit me, throwing me back into reality.

Ice cold water hung in my eyes as I sat up in disbelief. People were talking around me but I couldn't register what was being said as I processed what just happened.

When I could finally catch my breath, I let out a growl and looked at the little old lady that was smiling at me.

"Good morning, how did you sleep?" She asked amused.

I shook off my hands that were dripping with water and looked over at Leo who was in shock along with the rest of them, "Where is Atlas?"

"Atlas took off, honey." My mom came to my side and brushed my soggy hair out of my face, "he lost control. He hasn't been back for a few days..."

Celeste informed me with worry streaming her.

"Off on your way to get your mate. Meet us when you are done," the crazy lady with a death wish shooed me off and practically pushed me out of the the bed and room.

"What-"

"Go!" She whacked my chin with her cane causing me to yell out and for everyone to jump up to help me.

I growled at her but quickly started backing away when she raised it again, "fine! I'll meet everyone at the pack house after."

Stripping off my clothes in a thick wooded area beside our house, I began searching for Atlas' scent.

I furrowed my eyebrows when I came up with nothing so I shifted letting Celeste do what she does best. Track.

It didn't take her long to find our very large bruting mate, patrolling the outskirts of the territory.

Celeste called to him but he was so deep in thought and his walls were up so high it just bounced back to us.

I tell her and I am almost immediately put back in control.

I shift and instantly regret doing it directly behind him. He hears me and I am thrown to the ground in my human form with his wolf snarling in my face.

"Helix!" I call to him as I try my best to swallow me fear. He won't hurt me. I don't think he will anyways.

All I get in response is a growl and his teeth bared at my throat.

"Helix, it's okay," I tell him and lift my hand to pet his front leg. "Its me, please let Atlas come home."

He clearly did not give a shit about what I had to say because he snapped at my hand making me cry out in surprise.

I didn't so I sighed to her and put on my acting hat.

"Helix, you're hurting me. Stop, please." I tried to wiggle away from him but obviously I wasn't successful.

Helix pulled back a little bit but not enough for me to be convinced he was going to calm down enough to realize it was me or give Atlas back over.

I needed something to worry him, something that would engulf him with my scent.

Blood.

I started feeling for something sharp around my body and was relieved to find a rock that should do the trick with the right amount of pressure.

The way his body was positioned on mine, I couldn't really move my arms so I ran the rock into my thigh causing me to whimper in pain.

As I felt the blood drip off my leg and hit the ground, Helix's whole persona changed. He let out a whimper of his own and pulled away before shifting into Atlas' skin.

Unfortunately for me, I was still facing Helix. At least he recognized me now.

his deep voice rumbled my chest as I sat up, pulling my knees to my exposed body.

"I'm okay, Helix. I'm sorry for catching you off guard." I say softly as he crawls over to me.

He was flithy, his entire body was covered in dirt and blood from his prey.

He look so wounded as he started examining the parts of my skin that was still exposed to him. I had to tell him the truth. "You didn't hurt me. Celeste knew you would snap out of it if I told you that you did because we both know you are a good mate." I said and took his face into my hands that had started growing out into a stubble

He didn't say anything but I knew that I had said the right thing when he slammed his lips onto mine for a brief moment. When he pulled away he gave my head a soft kiss and mumbled,

"Thank you, Helix." I gave him a soft kiss on the cheek and allowed him to pick me up bridal style, taking me home.
