With that, Max left. My face burned, maybe because of what Max said or because my face was being devoured by a pillow.
"Um. Is that... True?" David asked. My shoulders tensed,
"No," I answered. David paused,
"...Oh." he simply answered.
The room was then... Pretty awkward.
"So um." He cleared his throat, "Are you okay? You were pretty shaken up after that nap in the car." I then felt a hand on my back, turning my head to see David sitting on the bed. I propped myself up to my elbows,
"Yes, Darling. I'm okay." I replied. David grinned,
"Nicknames?!" He squealed. I bit the inside of my cheek,
"I... Felt as though it was appropriate."
"Can I call you (Y-)-(Y-)?" He asked. I laughed slightly,
(The beginning of your name repeated. Example, My name is Samora. So he would say 'Sam-Sam' Sorry if you have a much different name and the nickname won't turn out the best 😅 also I'll put '(Y/NN)' *your nickname*)
"S-Sure?" I chuckled. His grin got wider,
"Yes!" He cheered. I chuckled again, muffling the sound into the pillow. He gently started to rub my back, "in all seriousness, what was your dream? Are you sure you're okay?" He asked.
"Y-Yeah," I answered. I then sat up, moving myself to face him. I then gently grabbed his arm, "I'm okay." I smiled before pulling him to me and gently pressing my lips on his.
The kiss was no longer than 3 seconds before we heard Gwen,
"Night, David! Night, Samuel!"
"Night!" We both responded in unison.
"It's dark out already?" I asked.
"We left the hotel pretty late." He answered. I nodded before laying down, rubbing my cheek into the pillow. David then sighed, "Tomorrow's gonna be a good day." He smiled before kicking off his shoe and then joining me under the covers. He then spooned my figure, pressing his chin on the top of my head. I smiled at the feeling of his safe grasp before eventually drifting to sleep.

"Good morning~, David!" Gwen shouted, slamming the door open. David instantly stood, giving his solute. How the fuck did he get out of my arms so easily? I sat up, glaring at Gwen with tired eyes.
"Good morning, Gwen-! Wait... This feels backward."
"Yep! But today's the day!" Gwen smiled, walking closer to the bed with a newspaper in her hand. David gasped, his eyes lighting up,
"You realized your love of camp Campbell and everything it stands for?!"
"Hell no!" She yelled, slamming the new paper into David. This time I gasped, looking over the edge of the bed to make sure he was okay. David laid, reading what was displayed in front of him.
"Help... wanted?" He questioned.
"That's right! Found a stash of cash Campbell hid in the quartermaster store behind a... Box of grenades." She explained.
Grenades?
David sighed, standing back up as his eyes still view the flyer. "I don't know, Gwen. Are you sure we really need more help?" He asked, turning to me. I grabbed the newspaper from him, inspecting the ad.
"Gwen... There's three of us. I don't think we need help." I commented.
A grenade the smashed through the window, falling to the floor with a thunk.
"Sorry! Foul ball!" Nikki yelled. I looked out the window,
"Nikki!" I yelled. Gwen then grabbed David by his substituted bandana,
"We need more counselors!" She yelled through gritted teeth. The cabin's door then knocked, followed by a familiar voice,
"Hello? I'm here for the job listing?"
Gwen then dropped David, "Oh my God!" She smiled. "Yes! This is-..."
"Good morning!"
I know that voice
Gwen stood there, unmoving.
"Ah! Smell that fresh mountain air! Gosh, now that's the kind of nature you don't just find in any neck of the woods!"
I and David glanced at each other before we both walked behind Gwen.
"Hello?" We asked in unison, both poking out from behind Gwen. I felt my face flush at the familiar man standing in front of me.
He was just from a dream! How is this possible?!

"O-Oh!" The man seemed surprised, "Well, hello there friend! Where are my manners?" He asked, placing down a pure white suitcase in his hand. "My name is Daniel! Your camp counselor applicant! I hope I'm not too late to submit my resume!" Daniel smiled. I grabbed onto Gwen's shirt,
"I don't feel so good," I whispered. "I think I'm gonna be sick. Or I'm gonna panic. Or both."
"Too late?! You're the first one!" David smiled, approaching the white-clothed man.
"Are you pulling my leg?"
"No leg pulling here!" David responded. "But we are Keen on handshakes!" David grinned, bouncing his eyebrows. Okay- that was kinda cute-
"Well, who isn't?" Daniel asked, shaking my boyfriend's hand before mimicking his eyebrow bounce. No! NONONONONONO!
"The name's David!"
"Pleasure to meet you, David!"
"The pleasures all mine, Daniel! So- what sort of experience do you have?"
"Well, sadly. My old camp was recently shut down. And ever since, I've been searching night and day for a new group of eager young kiddos I can help to educate and reach their full potential!"
"Did ya' hear that Gwen, (Y/NN)? I think we just hit the jackpot! This was a great idea!"
"Y'know... I think now's the perfect time for me to use my vacation days." Gwen mentioned.
"Aw, Gwen, are you sure?" Both asked.
"I... I think I second that." I joined.
"No, you should stay here and watch these two." Gwen debated as Daniel and David began talking in the background. I sighed,
"Fine. Don't take too long."
//
I sat at my desk and turned to the tiny black radio. I then turned through it, attempting to find a good station,
"Well, more fun for us! Come on, Daniel. I think you're gonna fit in here ju~st fine!' David yelled, dragging Daniel into the counselor cabin behind me.
"I think so too David! I think so too..."
I turned in my chair, looking at the two.
"(Y/NN)? Should we give him Gwen's bed since we share a bed now?" He asked. I shook my head,
"No, babe. That's Gwen's bed even if she's on vacation. That'll be just invading her privacy if she didn't agree to it. Why not let Daniel sleep in a tent." I started, I then turned to him. "Afterall, he really loves nature." I glared.
"You're right! I think you'll love a tent!" David smiled. Daniel placed his suitcase on the floor,
"What I'd really love right now is... A shower." Daniel smirked, his eyes trailing to me.
What the fuck-?
"You can take a shower anytime you want, Daniel!" David smiled. His eyes looked to me before he rose a brow, his eyes examining my features.
Shit-! Am I blushing?!
"Quick question, David?"
"Yes, Daniel?!" David smiled, his eyes snapping back to the man in front of him.
"What's the relationship between you and... Ms.(Y/L/N), here?" He asked. I quickly stood, stepping to the tall man,
"How do you know my last name?" I asked. The man just tilted his head,
"Oh, (Y/N). I know a lot~ about you~." He grinned. I narrowed my eyes at him. He then gave a cheerful grin before grabbing onto my frame, then dipping me to the music that played on the radio, "Why, who wouldn't know such a gorgeous woman like yourself?" He asked, winking after his sentence. I brought myself to giggle at his words, although I was confused as fuck and wanted nothing other than his hands to stop touching me.
He then brought me back up before twirling me to the beat before once again dipping me even lower, bringing our faces to close. David then grabbed Daniel's shoulder, pulling him up before roughly grabbing my waist and pulling me from Daniels' arms,
"This is my co-counselor, (Y/N)." The then paused, his eyes narrowing, as well as his grip on my waist tightening. "Also, my girlfriend." David explained, his voice becoming threatening at 'Girlfriend'
David then forced a smile,
"Now! I have a lesson to tell the kids about grenades and baseballs! How about you join me, Daniel?" David smiled before leaving the cabin, "C'mon!"
Daniel turned to me, giving a smirk over his shoulder before he left the cabin.
I sat down on the bed, pressing the palms of my hands on my temples.
"Fuck," I whispered.

Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, Revised, and Reinvigorated)
Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?---Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes. Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees. This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.---Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black. --- Cover art by Agri Karuniawan (@artofagri). Unburnt
He remembered being a better person, in another life. That was before he was reborn into a royal family of unparalleled power, and into a world that wouldn't feel out of place in a fantasy series. Seriously. There was magic and everything, it was totally whack. Self-Insert with angst, mental issues, and no knowledge of Avatar: The Last Airbender. This story doesn't belong to me.
