《Their Human》Chapter forty six: werewolves

I walked down the hall of what used to be my home, looking for the door to Gia's bedroom. It wasn't hard to find considering it was the only door that had a large pink G stuck on it with pictures of unicorns and flowers. It was also no surprise that it was located in my old room.
I quietly knocked before gently pushing the door open. I peeked my head inside, finding the little girl laying in her bed, wrapped in fluffy pink sheets. Her head turned to my direction, "who are you?" She asked groggily.
I slowly stepped inside and shut the door, walking to the her bed. I sat at the edge of the bed and smiled at her. "I'm Akielia, your big sister."
"Mommy said I have no sister." She said blankly, fiddling with her stuffed whale. I had the urge to tell her about everything that our parents had done to me but I pushed it all at the back of my head. Alexander was right, she didn't deserve any of that. She played no part in this whole thing.
"She was going to tell you soon. I wanted to say goodbye." I told her, holding her small hand.
"Are you leaving?"
"Yes and I don't know if I'll ever come back. I'm a big girl and I have to go out on my own." I told her in the most understandable way I could tell her.
"Like a superhero?" She asked me, her eyes lighting up. She crawled closer to me, interested in what I had to say.
"Yes, like one. Will you forgive me if I don't come back?"
She grinned and hugged me, "my sister is a superhero!"
I was about to open my mouth when I heard my mother scream loudly. I quickly looked towards the door, wondering what just happened. Please don't tell me that one of the twins finally lost their temper.
Awoooo!
Was that a...?
The door burst open, Alexander entering with a face full of panic. "Werewolves! We need to leave now!"
I quickly got off the bed, pulling Gia with me. "Wear shoes and get a jacket right now." I said to her as calmly as possible. She looked around frantically, not hearing me. I got on my knees and held her shoulders, shaking her slightly. "Listen to me, you need to do what I say."
"What's happening? Where's mommy?"

"Akielia there's no time, just grab her and let's go." Alexander said. I nodded and picked her up, grabbing her stuffed animal and following Alexander.
"No! Get off me! Get off me!" I heard our mother scream. She shrieked after that, the sound of growling following.
Alexander stopped, "we can't go down there. There's over six of them. I can't fight them and protect you at the same time."
Screeeeee!
Alexander huffed and turned around, "go to your parents room. Shiloh and Venandi are outside." He told us.
"What about you?" I asked in panic. Alexander looked back at the commotion happening downstairs.
"Don't wait for any of us, just drive as far as you can. Don't stop until you are out of sight." He instructed me.
He isn't answering my question.
"What about you, Alexander?" I asked him, holding his hand. He squeezed it and lifted it up to kiss my knuckles.
"I'll find my way back to you."
Before I could speak he sped off, leaving me and my crying little sister in my arms. I sighed and turned around, running to my parents bedroom. I locked the door and ran to the window, putting Gia on the bed and looking down. We were about twenty feet up and I could clearly see what was happening outside.
There were the dead bodies of large wolves and lycans scattered around the driveway, some with missing limbs. I looked around for a way to climb out of the window and to get down safely but I found none.
The door knob twisted, an evil growl coming from behind it. Gia started screaming and I pushed the window open, attempting to do the only thing I could.
"VENANDI!" I shouted, looking around.
The door banged louder, pieces of wood peeling off it. I grabbed Gia's arm and pulled her to the window. I was prepared to jump out, I just didn't know if I would make it or not.
"Close your eyes." I told her. She nodded and closed them, her body shaking.
Screeee!
I turned to the window at the familiar sound and shrieked when I saw Venandi's head peeking through the window. Breathing heavily, I placed Gia on my back and made sure she was clinging on me tightly before I climbed up on Venandi's back. He pounced of the wall with no effort and landed on the floor next to my car. I got off and placed Gia in the backseat before getting in the driver's seat.

I've never driven faster in my life.
It was a miracle that I hadn't caused an accident, I didn't even stop for red lights. I couldn't help but feel afraid that if I stopped somewhere, it would still be too close for the enemy to reach us. It was even scarier now that it was just Gia and I. For the first time in a long time, I really hoped that my parents were okay.
They need to be alive. They need to raise their daughter.
Taking another left turn, I knew exactly where I was driving to. It was the only option I had left. I wasn't going to seek refuge because I knew that those creatures would find me again but I was going to leave Gia. She was too young and vulnerable to go back to that island. It would be selfish of me to be okay with taking her there.
I parked outside the gate, not bothering to go inside. Leaving the ignition on, I got out of the car and rushed to the back, not before looking around to see if the coast was clear. I opened the door and pulled Gia to me, giving her a tight hug.
"It will be okay, don't be scared." I whispered to her.
"I want- I want mommy and d...daddy here with me." She whimpered, wetting me with her stream of tears.
"You will see them soon but right now you can't. Grab your teddy bear and let's go." I told her as softly as possible. She held the tail of her whale and I lifted her up, running inside the property and not bothering to close my door. It would only take a minute.
"Mica!" I called out, running to the door. I had no idea what time it was but Miracle usually slept early. "Mica!" I banged his front door loudly, not stopping until he opened it.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." I heard his voice. The door was slid open and he opened his mouth to complain but when he saw it was me, his words died on his tongue.
"Oh my God!" He screamed, pulling me into a bone crushing hug. Gia, who was fighting for her life between us, started gasping lightly. "Are you alright? We all thought you were kidnapped or fed on by subject MM2077! You just disappeared. Sharlene and Damien are missing too! Did you know they were together? I was so hurt and—"
"Miracle! I'm so sorry, I really can't talk right now. I need two serious favours urgently." I interrupted him. He pulled away from me and nodded, his brows furrowing.
"I need you to take care of my little sister for a few days. I can't take her where I'm going. It's literally hell there." I told him quickly.
"I understand, what's the second favour?" Mica was never a person who would question your intentions or just refuse to help you. He was a very kind human being, which is why I needed to leave immediately in order to keep him safe too.
I put Gia down and held her hand, "I need the gun you used to capture the beast that night." I told him. That was when he really got concerned.
"Why do you need a gun?"
I gently nudged Gia to him and shook my head. "Don't worry about it, that was a ridiculous request."
"I mean, I would give you but they took them back. What's going on? Are you in danger?" He asked me in concern. I sighed and nodded slowly. I had no idea how much I missed my normal life until all of this happened. I missed cosying up in my house and watching series. I missed driving to work every morning to see something new. I missed the food runs, Mrs Zulu's food at the cafeteria. That cute old lady always had a bunch of stories... Wait a minute.
"How unfortunate. Any man would be lucky to have a beautiful woman like you. Just keep searching, you'll find that man soon, maybe even two men."
She had told me that back at the lab when she served me lunch. I always thought it was strange that she said two men but I took it as a joke. It can't be a coincidence that I'm with two men.
"Where does Mrs Zulu live?" I asked Mica.
"You mean the little old lady from work? I don't know but you could get that information at the lab." Miracle said. He held Gia's hand and patted her head with his free one. "You should hurry, it's closing at midnight."
I tiptoed and kissed his cheek before rushing back to my car. I will never forget what he has done for me.
Next stop: the science lab.
