Volume 3 Chapter 1: Part 6: The Abnormal

"Run away! Get all the children and women away from the monster!" In the village, people were shouting. Children, women, and old people ran for their lives.

It was pure chaos.

Some villagers took up weapons as they looked at the thing in front of them. But what could they do about it?

In their hands was farming equipment. What was more, their arms were shaking. These people had no experience in fighting. And it showed in the next second.

"Roar!" The monster screamed out loud and ripped apart the humans in droves! Just one stroke was enough to slice off 5 heads! Seeing this, the villagers were shaking in their boots.

"R-Run away!" No one knew who said this, but one screamed out. This caused a ripple effect.

"It's going to get us!" More and more people became fearful of the monster, causing even more pandemonium throughout the village.

"Roar." Behind that roar was a hint of amusement watching the villagers squirm around like a bunch of scared animals. After a few moments of watching them squirm, the monster attacked.

"Get away from them." Before the monster could land its attack on the villagers, Onyx came in. He jumped in front of them, blocking the monster's blow with his blade!

And the blow created an explosion! Onyx got pushed back, and so did the monster.

He looked at the monster with a dark expression,

"So it's you who caused all of this." Onyx's look turned to glare.

The monster looked human. Its body was lankier and taller than an ordinary person's height. What was more, the monster's skin was blue. Its hands and legs each had nails like razor-sharp claws.

"Rawr!" Seeing how he got pushed back, the monster glared as it roared out loud! The sound could be heard throughout the entire village! The villagers grabbed onto their ears while Onyx grunted a bit.

Using it as a distraction, the monster dashed over to Onyx! Wanting to take out the pest, it raised its arm, ready to bring it down!

Onyx went for a block again. An arrow flew and was aimed at the monster's back! The beast turned around in anger to see Rena on the roof of a house.

The monster quickly shifted targets toward Rena. What about Onyx?

"Not happening!" Onyx punched the monster in the face, drawing its attention back. Onyx shouted out,

"Rena, go take everybody to safety! I'll stall it here and buy you some time." The villagers need to leave. They would become an open target if they stayed here.

"Understood!" Rena nodded as she jumped over to the villagers.

Realizing its prey was about to escape, the monster quickly charged at them, wanting to take them all out!

"Your fight is with me!" What did he think Onyx was? Chopped liver? Onyx reacted quicker as he tackled the monster, smashing him through a house.

"What are you guys doing?! Make a run for it!" Onyx roared out. Seeing how the villagers look at him in surprise: pissed him off. I'm trying to be a distraction to save you guys.

But why aren't you guys leaving?!

What is wrong with them?!

And a distraction he became. Because the next second, Onyx got blasted from his place! His body flew through the sky, smashing through the window of another house.

BOOM!

The monster used more force than Onyx, causing the entire house to collapse on him!

"Mast-" Rena was about to shout in worry. However, she stopped herself. The monster was focused on him. She got her orders from Onyx. Turning to the villagers,

"Follow me if you want to live!" Her words jolted the villagers. They quickly get up and follow her out. Before leaving, Rena glanced back at where Onyx fell; Please be safe.

...

"Damn, what power." Onyx got out of the rubble. Luckily, Onyx was built like a brick wall, and the house wasn't that heavy. Because that would have hurt.

"!"

Onyx quickly jumped out of the rubble. And then,

CRACK! The monster jumped on where he was, crushing everything under it.

"Rawr!" The monster continued to stomp about, thinking that what it was doing was killing Onyx.

Onyx dashed towards it, wanting to take advantage! Instincts kicked in as the beast swung its arm at him. The monster's claws and Onyx's sword collided, causing a loud sound!

And the latter got blown away! Heavy. That blow was just too abnormal. Onyx thought as he looked down at his hand.

It was shaking.

It was not normal either. Onyx could feel it.

The pain from the collision wasn't ordinary; it went to his bones. The other time he felt the same way was when he dealt with the deviled python and the adult chimera!

Danger! Breaking out of his thoughts, Onyx ducked down. The monster came dashing his way, slicing at where his head was.

Onyx thrust his sword upward, trying to take its head off!

"Grr." The monster didn't dodge the blow but bit down on his sword.

"You freaking-Get off!" Onyx slammed his legs on the ground before swinging the sword upward. With it, the monster too. It flew a few meters away from Onyx but landed on its feet.

It got a good grip too. The specs on the monster were high. Maybe even better than the deviled python. Onyx compared it to his previous opponent.

Though, it's not good at thinking. Onyx realized the monster was only focused on charging. It was trying to kill the first thing it saw. It wasn't thinking about how to kill, just going for mindless slaughter.

"Rooooooar!" The monster shouted again! Onyx flicked his fingers, mocking it,

"Come at me." After doing this, Onyx dashed to the side and behind the rubble of the buildings.

"..." The monster didn't need to think as it smashed through the building, angry at what he did. But Onyx was not there at all!

The monster looked around, wondering where Onyx had gone.

The monster continued to look, not noticing the person hiding at the top. Onyx kicked the roof, making him rush down like a bolt of lightning! He sliced down at the monster's back!

Blood spurted out from its back. It was a clean shot.

What? Onyx's expression turned worse as he jumped out of the window! How?! Just how?! The monster was unfazed by the wound.

What was more, the back was regenerating rapidly before his eyes!

As Onyx placed a good amount of distance from it, looking from behind, the monster chased after him like a wild animal!

His expression turned dark as the monster caught up to him.

Let's try this! Onyx jumped up onto the broken walls, twisting and turning. However, the monster slammed the walls, taking the shortest route possible.

It was like a bull. The only thing it would do is rush forward and nothing else. It had a lot of power.

Onyx looked around. Good, There aren't any people here. Onyx led the monster away. Grabbing the monster's attention, he guided him away from where Rena and the other villagers were going.

And he was far enough. With nobody around, he could use his magic now.

Onyx turned back, seeing the destruction coming his way. And a snap of Onyx's fingers, a couple of dark spears floated around him: waiting for his target.

And the moment the monster burst out from the wall, the dark spears fired! They were dead on point as it pierced through the chest and legs.

Multiple open holes in the monster's body splurt out blood.

With that amount of damage, that should have taken the monster out. Or so Onyx thought,

"Rawr!" The monster continued to rush at him, unfazed by it.

Onyx quickly side-steps away. But it was not enough. The monster shifted its body, turning towards where Onyx was!

It swiped at him like a mad dog, not letting Onyx take a break. And it worked, claw marks etched down on the front of his breastplate.

What made it worse was the wounds from his spear were regenerating!

Tch! I need to make a larger wound. Onyx knew he needed to make a wound big enough so it couldn't regenerate.

I'll have to make an opening then! An eye for an eye.

Brute force with brute force!

Onyx charged forward with his sword raised. The monster didn't realize it. More like it didn't care as it continued with its ferociousness.

Predictable! Onyx smacked the monster's hand into the air! Before it could react, Onyx came down with his sword!

Thud.

A heavy sound dropped to the ground. What fell was the monster's right arm! Onyx took the whole thing off cleanly. Onyx figured out the monster's rhythm from all his charging.

And he took a chance of an opening, dealing a serve blow.

"Let's end this." And it was time for him to deal the finishing blow. Onyx looked down at the monster. He raised his sword, wanting to end it right now.

"Hel- Help!" "!" The edge of Onyx's sword stopped next to the monster's neck!

"You can talk?" Onyx's eyes turned wide. Never did he expect the monster to talk! What was more, it was asking for help!

"Help me! Halllp me!" The monster continued to beg for its life.

"Hey, what's goin-" Onyx pulled his sword back as he checked on the monster. Tears came down the monster's eyes as if this was killing him.

"Argggh!" But those tears stopped as the monster snapped back. It slammed down on Onyx!

"Ughh!" Onyx coughed blood. Before he had time to think, what came after was his neck strangled by the monster!

Dammit! Did it trick me?! Onyx wanted to ask this. But he couldn't focus on this as he was being suffocated of air!

Onyx quickly overpowered the monster. With only one hand, there was no way it could continue to choke Onyx.

But that didn't stop it from doing other things! The monster began to bite at him like a rabid dog! Despite getting out of his grip, Onyx couldn't get out of his position.

The monster pushed at Onyx, making him unable to move. What was more,

Damn, is it getting stronger?! The hand he was holding was slowly etching towards his neck again!

No way! Onyx held that hand down! And,

"Shut it!" He stopped his foot on the monster's neck, not letting it bite him!

It became a stalemate between the two! Onyx couldn't move, but the monster couldn't do any damage.

And the latter couldn't beat him at all. But Onyx knew,

I'm going to lose. Onyx knew; he would eventually lose his stamina, and compared to the monster, it seemed it could keep going till it died!

I need to get out of here. Onyx tried to move out of this position, but no dice. He looked down at the red and soulless eyes of the monster. Those tears were nowhere to be found. Instead, just pure rage and bloodlust.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Before the mouth got closer to Onyx's face, an arrow pierced its head! And it didn't stop there.

An extra two arrows came flying at the head, piercing it again. Finally, the monster lost all strength as it went limp, falling onto Onyx's body.

"Master! Are you ok?!" Rena was the one who shot the arrows. After getting the villagers out of the way, she quickly came back. She found Onyx pinned down by the monster.

Onyx pushed the body off as he sighed in relief, "I'm ok now that you're here. I thought I was a goner there."

Rena walked over and extended her hand, "Here."

"Thanks." Onyx took her hand and got up from the ground. As he got up, he looked over the dead body. There was a tense expression on his face.

"What's wrong, master?"

"Nothing. Just thinking about something."
