《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 104 - Backseat Trilogy

Getting the keys to the car was easy, three highly trained spies could get that job done in a jiffy. The tough part was deciding the seating arrangements. It had been automatically decided that Natasha was going to drive, she usually opted for it, and Yelena seemed to pick up on that fact when she had her motorbike hijacked by her own sister.

The older woman stood at the sidelines of the car, tapping her foot on the ground as she watched her sister and wife bickering like children over who got to sit in the front. Luckily, no one seemed to be paying attention to the adults acting like infants whilst trying to steal a car, they were all just focused on playing games or eating with their families.

Meanwhile, Natasha just wanted to get in the car and drive away from hers.

"I had to sit in the back when we were being chased by that tank thing in both of the vehicles we used, Lena!", was Eleanor's argument, one that she thought would hold up in court if she were to testify against her sister-in-law.

"Exactly, it's a pattern, you're used to sitting in the back so you can do it again with no issues", Yelena shrugged and went to open the passenger door only to have her arm grasped by the woman next to her.

Eleanor shook her head and gave the best glare that she could, only to get laughed at, "You are not scary Eleanor Hughes, you're like a fluffy little panda", she patted Eleanor on the head and was promptly swatted away by the victim.

"If you two don't get your asses in the car in two seconds I will drag you to the middle of nowhere and leave you there, understood?", Natasha stepped forward, and the two other women found themselves shrinking in their place.

"Yes", Eleanor sighed, though her melancholy face was quickly replaced with a scowl when Yelena jumped into the passenger seat and winked at the defeated woman still standing by the door.

Natasha sent her a sympathetic smile and briskly walked over to place a kiss on the side of her head before patting her butt a couple of times, "Ass in the car", she spoke sternly but with a smirk. Eleanor gave a mock salute as she clambered into the back, thanking Natasha who closed the door for her. Not out of courtesy, but to make sure that they could hightail it out of the place.

As soon as everyone was buckled in, Nat slammed her foot onto the accelerator and sped off into the night, not wanting to risk anyone chasing the car down. Nat had always been one for seatbelt safety, having to constantly remind Eleanor to put hers on back when they were friends and first started dating, but with the recent events of having their cars blown up twice, she took extra care to make sure everyone in the car had theirs on.

Though over the recent years of having experienced Nat's speedy driving, Eleanor doesn't need to be told twice to put her seatbelt on.

With the journey in tow, and it being late at night, Eleanor decided to rest her eyes in the back, not sleeping, just resting her eyes. Whenever she said that out loud in the past it made her feel incredibly old, it's something that her Aunt would say whilst they were watching game shows in the evening.

Her train of thought whilst resting her eyes continued being of England, she missed that place more than ever now and would give anything to have a hug from her aunt. Visiting home with Natasha was the highlight of her year, but now visiting would likely have Sarah put in harm's way. Which was a terrifying prospect. It's likely that Ross had already interviewed her to try and get an idea of where the two spies were hiding.

That fact made Eleanor's blood boil.

"You know, this is the first piece of clothing I've ever brought for myself", Yelena's voice broke the silence, and Eleanor's eyes opened. She was thankful for having her thoughts interrupted, as they were just working her up, so she sluggishly lifted her head from resting on the seat and leaned forward, placing her elbows on her knees and holding her cheeks in her hands.

Nat looked over briefly at the vest that Yelena was pointing out before putting her eyes back on the road, "That?", she sounded unimpressed.

"Yeah. You don't like it?".

"Is that like a... an army surplus...?". Eleanor could hear the smirk in Nat's voice, earning a slight shake of the head from her wife. Though she was intrigued at seeing where this teasing would go since Yelena had shoved her to the back of the vehicle for the third time in a day.

"Okay, it has a lot of pockets". Natasha chuckled when Yelena looked at her. "But I use them all the time, and I made some of my own modifications".

Eleanor couldn't help but smile at the interaction, though when Yelena seemed defeated, she decided to hop in on her team. Besides, it was a pretty cool jacket.

"Whatever", Yelena mumbled and looked out of the window, as Nat laughed again. "Shut up, the point is I've never had control over my own life before, and now I do, I want to do things".

At that Natasha sat in contemplation for a few seconds, guilt surging forward for poking fun at Yelena when it was something that was important to her. "It's a cool jacket, how many pockets does it have?", Eleanor piped up from the back, poking her head through the gap in the front seats slightly.

"Thank you! See I knew she was the better one of you two, Natasha. It has ten", Yelena answered proudly, and Eleanor's eyes actually widened. Ten pockets were impressive and very handy, most women's items of clothing have zilch. What is the deal with those fake pockets on jeans?

"Wow, if I pay you can you modify some of my jackets, you know, when this is all over?".

A smile broke out on Yelena's face, which was then mirrored on Natasha's from seeing the other two interacting happily. She was still a bit worried that Yelena and Eleanor weren't on good terms. But they were, they just had an... interesting way of showing it. "For good money, I will do all of your jackets".

"Great!".

Silence fell through the car for a few seconds, a comfortable one. "I like your vest", Nat admitted.

"I knew it. I knew you did. It's so cool, right?", Yelena's fists clenched in front of her as she articulated her words, excited yet again about her vest. It was sweet really.

Natasha nodded, "It's good, yes I like it".

"And you can put so much stuff in there. You wouldn't even know".

As the next brief silence hit the car, Eleanor leaned back again, this time prepared to fall asleep, it had been a long few days. Scratch that, few weeks.

Though once again, Yelena's voice interrupted the silence. "I really don't know where the Red Room is though, I'm sorry".

"I know", Natasha said softly, "But I think I know someone who does".

"You do?", Eleanor leaned forward again, placing a hand on Natasha's shoulder, seeking some comfort after having been shoved in the back of the car for half an hour.

"We're gonna need a jet".

Eleanor tilted her head so far it nearly touched her shoulder, "That doesn't answer my question, hon".

"Yes you need to work on your talking skills", Yelena added on, seemingly on Eleanor's side for the first time ever.

Natasha sighed, being ganged up on was not part of her agenda, "Alexei". That was all she needed to say before the mood in the car dulled down, Natasha and Yelena would rather do anything else than reunite with the man who pretended to be their father for years, and Eleanor knew this for certain. But there was nothing that she could do to make them feel better.

"I'm gonna drive for a couple more hours before we stop for some sleep, you two should get some rest", Natasha told them, more like ordered them.

"How about we switch and I drive for a little bit, you need sleep too", Eleanor voiced from the back, hand still on Nat's shoulder.

Nat shook her head with a smile, appreciating the gesture, "No, I'm good, I won't be able to sleep anyways. Get some rest".

"Okay", Eleanor was hesitant but would comply, "But wake me up if you want to switch, okay?".

"I promise", Nat reached a hand up to Eleanor's and gently rubbed it before putting it back on the wheel, "Sleep, both of you". Yelena and Eleanor looked at each other, almost debating telepathically if they should listen, but the conclusion was that they should. Nat would probably threaten to dump them in the middle of nowhere again if they didn't.

So, Eleanor let her eyes get heavy, and rested her head on the seatbelt, allowing herself to drift into a slumber.

Five minutes into knowing that both Eleanor and Yelena were sound asleep, Natasha couldn't help but check on them every couple of minutes. Peering over at her sister occasionally to make sure that she didn't look too cold with her sleeveless vest on, and glancing in the mirror to check that Eleanor wasn't in a position where she was going to wake up with a stiff neck.

---

Eleanor woke up with a huge yawn as she stretched her arms up as much as she could do with the car roof in the way, her body shaking as it usually does with that first big morning stretch. "Well hello again, Hughes", Yelena spoke quietly from the front, conscious that Natasha was still asleep.

"Y'alright?", she spoke through another yawn, squinting her eyes after to get used to the fresh morning light flooding through the windows.

Yelena inhaled deeply before answering, clearly trying to wake up properly too, "Mhm, are you?", she twisted her body to be able to look to the back.

Eleanor bit back a smile at Yelena checking in, glad to have put everything that happened yesterday behind them. "Yeah". They both then turned to look at Natasha, still sound asleep, her head leaning against the car window. "We should let her sle-".

Nat's phone alarm blaring through the car made all three of them jump, and made Eleanor's face scrunch up at how it interrupted her idea of letting her wife sleep for a bit longer. "Shit, sorry, did it wake either of you", Nat scrambled to turn her alarm off and looked between the other two.

"No, I've been awake for a little bit, lazy ass back there woke up a few seconds before the alarm".

Eleanor's jaw dropped and she moved her head between the seats again, "How am I lazy? It was a regular amount of sleep".

"You have been asleep the longest, therefore are the laziest".

Just as Eleanor was about to dispute that, her lovely wife chimed in, not to her rescue, "You do love your sleep, El", she smirked, and Eleanor slumped back into her seat with her arms crossed, Natasha simply jutting her bottom lip out in a mock response, staring at her through the mirror.

"Okay, to prove I am not lazy, I will drive to the next location, is that why you set the alarm?", her attention was on Nat who nodded.

"I called Mason when I parked up here, he should have a jet waiting for us about an hour out".

Yelena turned her body slightly again to see them both, "Oh Mason is nice, and yes you should drive now, and I can stay in the front".

"Oh no no, you're getting in the back", Natasha undid her seatbelt and gave her sister a look that she couldn't argue against. Eleanor would have to perfect that look she thought to herself as she got out of the car, and met Nat outside.

Bringing Nat into a hug, that was gratefully accepted Eleanor muttered a small "Good morning", as she tightened her hold, both letting out relieved breaths.

"Okay I'm going to throw up just get into the car", Yelena announced before slamming the back door, unhappy that she had been kicked out and into the back. With chuckles, the other two got into their seats. Whilst Eleanor pulled out of the small clearing near a country road layby that Nat had positioned them in, her wife inputted the location into the GPS.

It seemed like it would be a nice drive to get there, just some quiet roads with nature. It would be a nice break before chaos ensued again. "You okay back there, Lena? It's real comfy, right?", Eleanor looked back at the blonde through the mirror, her posture mirroring Eleanor's from a few moments ago. Slumped in her seat with her arms crossed.

"Ha ha, you're so funny".

"Are you two ever gonna be able to talk like normal people?".

"No", both Eleanor and Yelena responded abruptly at the same time, though with fond smiles on their faces that they couldn't keep down.

"Alright alright, forget I asked".

As expected the drive was pleasant, and they ditched the car in the middle of the woods and trekked the five minutes into the clearing where Mason was expecting them. Though they were not expecting what was there. Instead of a jet, there was a very, very worn-down helicopter.

"What the fuck is that, that's worse than the plane we took to Portugal, I am not getting in that death trap Nat, that's what it's gonna do, trap us in death", Eleanor began rambling as they marched up to the tin can vehicle.

"Agreed" Yelena muttered beside them, a sour look on her face as she took in the sight.

Even Natasha was in agreement, making Eleanor snap her gaze onto her wife, having expected her to try and mediate the situation and tell them to stop being drama queens. "I said we needed a jet!".
