《The Forgotten Gods》Chapter 81

I woke up with the sun beating down on my face. I had no idea how long I had laid there. Creating the cores took more effort than I thought it would. I knew that I would pass out, but I didn’t know that I would have stacking debuffs.

While my status didn’t show that I had debuffs now, I felt sick still, almost like when I woke up in the wrong state in college. I felt horrid, like the dog barfed on me. There was still a slight pounding in my head, but it wasn’t near what it had been.

I had sitting in front of me 16 cores. Of them, I knew what I was doing with 15. They were going into the dress. It was odd now that I did the cluster core for the quiver; I wanted to see what would happen if I linked cores in a single item and not across others.

This dress was to help protect Lannah, and if things went right with the creation, then it wouldn’t just let her have some healing and health bonuses, but it would adapt to the situation that she found herself in. I hoped that it would even give her away to climb over some of these obstacles.

I would go get Lannah to see this part, but since I had her dress, I guess she wouldn’t get to see the magic. She would only get to have it once it was created. I loved putting the cores into items and watching all the imperfections get fixed as they changed to something better.

I started with cores into each of the runes. As they went in, I began to see sections of the dress adjust and change. It was almost like each core handled a small area. Then, when I dropped the core into the dress where a broach would pin, the whole thing snapped together.

First, all the stitching got better then I saw the places that had worn were renewed. All the loose stitches tightened up. I felt the fabric go from dirty and stiff to soft and new. The laces on the back returned to being uniformed and freshly made.

The blue of the dress started to fade out, and then the dress turned brown and white. After that, it gained a hood. Then, a pair of boots appeared next to it. In a sudden flash, the dress was a black and pink cross-fit workout set complete with shoes. A third flash and a formal dress like I would expect to have seen in some movie about Camelot appeared. Then it flashed and was back to the brown and white.

Wow, that was by far the most powerful item I had made. I wasn’t sure what came over me when I was working and why I chose to use so many cores, but this was far better than I thought I would get.

I took the dress over to the storage room.

“Lannah, I am done with the dress now sorry it took so long.” I said as I knocked on the door.

I paused for a moment and went to knock again because she didn’t say anything. When I hesitated, though, I heard sobbing.

I raised my voice, “Lannah, are you okay?”

The storage room door got yanked open, and Lannah, in her underclothes, was in front of me. She was giving me that look of I am so happy you are alive because I am going to kill you. Her face was flush, and running down her cheeks were long trails of tears. Her hair was a mess, and her skin looked like she had run a marathon.

Lannah stepped through the door and pointed her finger up into my face. “I thought you went and attacked the goblins! All that mana drain! You bottomed me out, and I passed out!” Then that pointing finger moved back, and she slapped me across the face.

“Stop looking at me and give me my dress!” She yelled as she yanked the dress out of my hands. Then, she slammed the door, and I heard her start to cry again as I backed away from the door.

“Women can’t live with them, can’t live without them….” I muttered.

As she was changing, I headed over to check on the goblins. There were more of them now. Unfortunately, the horde was around twice the size as it had been, and what was worse were the larger creatures that I watched walk up.

I saw two orcs walk into the camp just as I was getting settled in. The head shaman came over to him and started pointing my way. Then a few of the other goblins pointed up in the air and over to where they had been burned.

I figured they were giving a report of how the battle had gone so far. I wasn’t liking our chances now that two orcs had shown up. Even if what Lannah had told me about the goblins not building was accurate. Orcs could get them to build. Hell, the orcs even had better-looking armor than I had on.

It was time to mess with them some and see if I could take the initiative of the battle and start to dictate the rhythm. So it was back to tossing some firecrackers.

I backed up and lobbed one right at where the two orcs were. I watched as the rock went up and started to sail down. It was about to land when it exploded. The goblins hadn’t been watching me. They had been reporting in, so no one was ready when the rock went out.

When it exploded, I got to see for the first time what it would do to a target. One chuck of the rock went and sliced through a gremlin’s head like it was butter. The head shaman took a chunk right to the neck and went down. The near orc got hit in the knee, and I saw blood.

Then the orc I hit turned and ran at me. The other one was laughing and kicking the shaman, who was bleeding out. However, the guy I wounded was running at speeds that I didn’t think I could do unwounded. As he got close, I was able to trigger the pop-up.

Orcs are a martial society that views combat as the only test of the gods. They like their goblin servants view all meat as something that could and should be eaten and will only eat plants if they are magical.

Orcs are like all other greater races in that they have levels and active skills.

Orcs have a racial hatred towards Wild humans and will enter into a berserker rage no matter what class they are if they are fighting one.
