《Dove Clan》28. Go best friend

A few weeks later…
Drool practically pooled down the corner of Maya's mouth as she stared at the jewelry with her face plastered against the glass casement. All of them were appealing, however she was positive that those double diamond studs would look perfect on her. They were definitely calling her name.
"K~O~" she called out, not taking her face from the jewel case.
The teens were stationed in the busy marketplace. It was allowance day in the Dove house, so Maya was spoiling herself with a little shopping.
"Yo." The blonde responded around a red sucker.
Maya glanced up and looked over her shoulder at him. "How much earnings you have on you?"
"Enough for me." K.O answered, then gave her a questioning look. "Why?"
"Becauuusse," Maya drawled out in a whiny voice. "I really want these earrings and I don't have enough."
Hearing that, K.O let out a chortle, "Well make it enough."
Maya frowned at him. "Come on. I need them."
"And I need my earnings. Besides you have enough earrings."
"Nuh uh. I don't have diamond studs. These diamond studs to be exact and they're on sale. Please!" Maya begged, poking her lip out and clasping her hands in a pleading manner. "You're only spending it on junk anyway."
K.O blew his lips indignantly and rolled his eyes. "Still no. Besides, even with our earnings combined you still wouldn't have enough, so forget it."
"Wah, meanie." Maya faked cried, peeking back at the earrings.
"Well, if it isn't the dirty tweety tweets." A voice stated from behind the two and they turned around to see a teenage boy.
He was average height with dark blue hair slicked back and a cowlick standing in attention. He had ebony skin with black beady eyes.
"Caleb," Maya and K.O grumbled in annoyance.
This was Caleb Icemaker who belonged to the Wolf Pack guild, Dove Clan's annoying rival. Emphasis on the annoying part. They were run by Chian, a man of so much confidence but so little skill. Oh, he's also King's older cousin. He runs his guild with one main rule, to fight on sight, especially if they come across a Dove.
"Come on, K.O. Let's keep moving."
"Say no more." K.O said and turned to follow the girl.
"Hey! I'm talking to you. Too coward to face me?!" Caleb yelled out to them.
The two stopped and spun around.
Maya chuckled, "Does Wolf Pack seriously not get tired of getting their ass beat. We have better things to do than waste our time entertaining trash." She said, flipping her hair.
"Trash?" Caleb gawked at them in anger. "If I'm so trash, then why are you running away." He seethed, watching as they once again turned their backs on him.
"Bastards," Caleb growled under his breath and then raised his hand. Ice evaporated from the limb and formed into a ball on his palm. He chucked it at K.O's back.

K.O instantly whipped around, sending a stream of air smashing into the ice.
"Fight me!" Caleb shouted out.
The shoppers around stopped their actions and watched the group with apprehensive eyes.
"If you assholes are going to fight, take it somewhere else." An angry plant booth owner yelled.
Caleb was succeeding at grabbing the spotlight that now had the guards inching nearer.
K.O lifted his hands in peace. "Calm down. Nobody is going to fight, especially not here."
"You all might as well go on now." A guard stated, authority heavy in his voice, and slit his eyes at the children.
"Yeah, we're going." K.O said, grabbing Maya's elbow and walking off.
When they reached Caleb, K.O bit out a, "after you".
The three walked on until they were on a river of grass. The pink field flowed with the breeze like a stream.
"Well, you said you wanted to fight, so here we are." Maya said, tilting her right hip out.
"Yeah," Caleb said with a grin, raising his fist, "and beat that cocky attitude right out of you."
"Well, K.O you got this." Maya said, then went to examine her nails as her mood turned bored. "And make it quick."
K.O shook his head with a chuckle, "You'd think you'll be tired of going against me." He started taking a few steps forward and paused throwing Caleb a mocking smile. "And losing."
"Not by very many, loser." Caleb retorted. "But I'm taking this win home."
Caleb's hand frosted over and he pointed his arm towards them and fired ice spikes. They both dodged and K.O ran in zigzags trying to go for Caleb. The boy continued aiming for K.O.
K.O summoned a translucent barrier and knocked away the pelting spikes. He kicked at Caleb and struck the other across the face.
Caleb fell to the ground, then slammed his palms flat on the grass. "Iceberg"
Ice shot up from under K.O's feet. The boy had to jump back to dodge the sharp ice tower. More shot up, aiming to pierce K.O but he managed to dodge them all. Despite Caleb having all that bravado, the kid was slow.
A white hue glossed K.O's frame. "Ariel Ace" He said and wind spiraled around Caleb's frame.
The swift air took Caleb off his feet, cutting his skins as he fought to escape the attack.
K.O stomped the ground and a ball of air flew up, slamming Caleb further up. A white magic sigil appeared over Caleb followed by a shout of "Pacious Pain", and a strong current drilled Caleb into the ground.
K.O called off the attack, then walked off towards Maya.
"Good job." Maya said with mirth and they fist bumped.
Behind them, Caleb painstakingly moved his body before he pushed himself up and glared at their backs. He raised a hand, and it froze over whole he started to whisper a spell.
"Heee- yahh!" A voice screeched and suddenly a girl fell from out of nowhere and whacked Caleb across the head with a stick.

Maya and K.O turned and looked at the girl.
She wore yellow and red striped crop top with blue jeans. The thigh section was cut out, leaving her jeans held together with denim straps. Her purple hair had blue tips and it was pulled up into a ponytail.
"Esther?!" Maya screeched then darted at the girl and collided into a bug hug.

Go best friend, that's my best friend
The girls fell to the ground, still wrapped tight in each-other's arms. Maya happily planted kisses on her face causing the girl to giggle.
"Hey bestie. I missed you." Esther giggled out.
"I missed you, too." Maya said, letting out a fake cry.
K.O stared at the two bonding below feeling a bit uncomfortable.
Maya remembered the blonde, then sat up with a big smile. "This is my best friend, Esther. Esther, this is my big bro, K.O." Maya introduced the two.
"Hey," Esther greeted.
"Wassup," K.O responded.
Maya and Esther stood up.
The red head looked at her friend, "What are you doing in Jasmine?"
"I'm on a top-secret mission from the spy agency." Esther said, then spurted waving her hand. "I'm just joking. But I am here looking for someone."
Maya lifted a brow, "Who?"
Esther's smile fell a little before she answered. "My dad. He hasn't been home in two days, and nobody back home has heard from him. This isn't like him."
Maya frowned. "You know he's in Berlim?"
Esther shook her head, "No, but I knew that you stayed here, so I came to find you to help me."
"Of course, girlie. I always have your back." Maya said. "Well, since you're here, might as well let you meet the rest of my family."
"Cool idea. I need to rest up anyway." Esther said with a yawn.
They walked off leaving Caleb unconscious form in the pasture.
"Hey best friend." Maya started to Esther, "How much earnings you have on you?"
In the guild's backyard…
Belle sat crisscross inside of a levitating bubble. Her wrist was settled on her knees and her face was in deep concentration. She groaned, before shaking her head in disappointment. She had been practicing all day but could not perform the spell.
'What am I doing wrong?', Belle thought letting out a frustrated huff.
"What'chu doing, kisses?" King asked as he stepped out onto the training field.
"I'm just trying to remember a spell is all." Belle said letting out a frustrated huff and released her bubble.
"What was it?"
"Well, it kind of just happened. When we were... over there, my water covered my entire body, making me invisible. Not necessarily invisible, but because water is transparent, our bodies blended in with the atmosphere. I just need to learn how to summon it on will."
"Hmm, well some spells can be tricky, especially if it was summoned by instinct. How were you feeling?"
"Feeling?" Belle asked confused.
"Yeah," King said with a shrug. "Emotions play a huge role in spell making, you know that. So?"
Belle took a breath then closed her eyes. "I was… scared. Terrified. All I was thinking about was keeping us safe." Water started to swirl on the ground around her, then fell flat against the dirt.
"See that's a start. You'll get it." King enthused and turned to walk off but paused suddenly. "Ya know, when I was just a boy, I watched my mom die. It's in no way compared to what you went through, but I just want you to know that I understand how it feels to lose a parent. How it feels to watch your true love die."
"How did you handle it?" Belle asked rivetted about the conversation.
King peeked at her. "I got stronger. I focused all my emotions on combat to the point that I wasn't even myself anymore. Something I wouldn't entirely recommend, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't help to channel my emotions with my magic. The important thing is to never forget." King ended with a straight face.
"Are you ever going to tell me what you and the lord talked about?" Belle asked with a deep frown.
"Nope." King answered and carried on into the guild.
Maya, K.O, and Esther walked through the front entrance of the guild. The two girls were engrossed in a conversation reminiscing about their childhood.
Esther let out a whistle once she had a good look at the place. "Wooow. This place is huge."
"Meh. It looks big at first, but when everybody is home, you see how small it really is." Maya said.
"Still bigger than our homes back in Fluer." Esther chimed in.
They both burst out laughing.
"You're right. You're right." Maya said, elbowing Esther.
"When the two of you are done, I'll be downstairs." K.O, who the two just realize was still there, said then walked down.
"Wait up," Maya squeaked as her and Esther ran downstairs.
"Hey everyone, meet Esther!"
"HEY ESTHER!"

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
