《A Dance With Hades》Fifty Three

My eyes widen when the grand gates of the Ricci and Martinelli property open. This place is huge and the house is just massive. The two families combined still don't make up a large family so this house is unnecessarily huge.
There are multiple guards roaming around the property with guns. This place looks like a fortress so it has to be more than safe for the ball.
Angelo parks the car right in front of the house and I'm quick to open my door. The few guards close by stop walking and turn their attention to me. I smile at them, waving too, and they all keep a straight face.
Nicola comes up to my side and sends the few guards staring at me funny a deadly glare. They look away from me and get back to walking around.
We walk into the house and my jaw drops. This place is absolutely beautiful. The design of the house reminds me of both the Roman and Victorian era.
It has the feel of a classic home you would've found back in the eighteen hundreds, but also has this slight modern twist.
The walls are extremely high and are covered with family portraits and other paintings of people I have never seen.
There are statues of Greek gods and goddesses on the sides, and sculptures of other beings I don't know.
This room alone looks like it belongs in a museum. The tiled floors stand out because of their white colour. The room is dark in contrast with the floor.
Angelo and Nicola lead me to where the ball will be held and the giant double doors open from the inside for us.
My jaw drops when I see the inside of the room. These families really know where to spend their money.
The giant ballroom stretches on for quite the distance. This place is more than bug enough to host the amount of people that are coming to the ball.
There's already a bunch of people cleaning and setting up the decorations for the ball.
Tables and chairs have to fit in here, still leaving enough space for people to dance and mingle.
The main families in the mafia have to be seated on one side of the room while the other families are scattered throughout the ballroom.
Allies and friends are to be on one side of the room just in case something breakouts, but nothing will because the security is going to be at its best.
The Ricci and Martinelli family will be seated on the second floor along with guests that Vincenzo and his brothers hand picked to be seated on the same floor as them.
I look around, my jaw is dropped in awe due to the beautiful ballroom in front of me. We walk down the stairs that lead down to the main floor of the ballroom and Nicola and Angelo stay very close to me.
"Don't worry," I say to the both of them and they hesitantly take a few steps back. I don't think anyone in this room right now is going to try and hurt me, but I still appreciate how they look out for my safety.

"You know you are going to a target from now on," Nicola says and I turn around with a frown on my face. "Everyone is going to meet the woman that has the Don around her finger."
"They will try to use yoy to get to him," Angelo says while looking down at the shining floors. Whoever cleaned these floors deserves a bonus because I can eat off these floors if I wanted to.
Someone bumps into me and I go to apologize even though it isn't my fault, but the person growls and pushes me to the side like I'm not a human being.
"Uhm, excuse me," I say while tapping the shoulder of this disrespectful person.
The tall woman turns around with an earpiece stuck to her ear and a black clipboard between her thin fingers.
Her blue eyes narrow down at me and I'm not even dazed by it. She looks me up and down then back up to my face for a short second.
"Kitchen staff go to the kitchen," she says to me before turning back around.
"She–"
"It's ok," I cut Nicola off as I turn my head to give a gentle smile.
The tall woman barks an order at some girl walking by with a giant vase. The girl is startled by the sudden bark and drops the vase.
It breaks at her feet and horror fills her face as she looks up at the woman with the clipboard.
"Are you mad?" The woman screams while stomping her feet against the wooden floor as she marches over to the trembling girl.
The girl takes a step back, clearly scared of this woman, and quickly apologises for breaking the vase.
She grabs the girl by her ear and twists it like she's some toddler, which she clearly isn't. The girl squirms around as she tries getting away from this woman.
"You little brat! That vase was priceless!" She screams in the girl's ear and I snarl at her. "The Don will have your head! Oh, wait till I tell him myself."
Who does this woman even think she is?
"Please let her go," I say just loud enough for her to hear me. She looks over her shoulder and glares at me.
Her weak glare does not faze me by the slightest. She is just a big bully who enjoys scaring other people. I don't like people like her, they annoy me.
"Didn't I tell you that the kitchen staff go to the damn kitchen?" She spits while pushing the girl's head to the side. The girl stands behind the woman with her head down like a child that just got caught stealing a slice of cake.
This woman makes everyone around her feel like children. She treats them like they are little babies he turns around and folds her arms over her chest.
"I'm not part of the kitchen staff," I say while stepping closer. "I see you don't know who I am."

"You are not a person of importance," she snarls while sticking her finger in my face. "Someone like you has no right to a title so you are definitely not important."
"Someone like me?"
"Are you stupid or something? Someone like you as in a black person. You have no right to a title. You are only good for mopping floors and serving people like me," she says and I just smile, confusing her a bit.
"Well–"
"What's going on here?" His voice cuts me off and I smile.
"Don." The woman smiles widely and I roll my eyes. Does every single woman want to get into Vincenzo's pants. "That girl over there broke one of the vases." She points to the girl who's head is still lowered.
I turn a bit so I can see Vincenzo and he is looking as handsome as always. "Where's your respect?" He growls and the woman's eyes widen. She bows her head for a short second before lifting it.
"I was–"
"Right now, I don't care about that girl."
"But Don–"
"You said something," he says while taking a step forward. "This woman." He points to me and I turn back to face the woman. Her eyes come down to mine and I smile widely.
"She is someone of importance," his voice interrupts me. I feel his hands on my waist and I smile as I take in his familiar scent.
"How lovely," I say while indicating with my index that she should bow. She crosses her arms over her chest and scoffs. Vincenzo growls behind me and she flinches.
The woman in front of me bows her head even lower out of respect, but she isn't bowing her head for me, she's bowing her head to the Don.
"Now you decide to have respect?" He laughs and the woman quickly lifts her head. "This is Nyx. My woman," he says and her eyes widen.
"She can't be, I thought she was–"
"You thought what? That I was white?" I cut her off with a glare. She shrinks back a bit, fear painting across her face as she realises who I am. "Jokes on you, I'm a certified melanin Queen, as you can see."
"A Queen you are amore," he whispers before placing a small kiss on the side of my head. He stands besides me and keeps his arm wrapped around my waist in a protective and comforting manner.
"And she is your Queen," he directs his attention to the woman in front of us.
"Don, I didn't know," she tries to defend herself but from the snort Vincenzo just let out, he isn't going easy on her.
"I don't tolerate racism," he deadpans. "Take her away," he says while waving his hand in the air. Two men walk past me and grab the woman. She begs for her life but Vincenzo looks in a different direction.
"This is your fault!" She shouts at me as the two men drag her past me. She spits a mouthful of saliva at my face and I groan out of disgust.
The sound of a gun going off sends a deafening ring through my ears. Everyone in the ballroom stops what they are doing and look in our direction.
The woman's body becomes limp as she slowly slips down to the floor. The life drains from her eyes and I watch, not caring that someone just killed her because of me.
"Let her go," I say and the two men follow my orders immediately. She falls to the floor, her blood staining the floor a second later.
I step closer to her body and just stare down at it. I don't feel any remorse or pain for her. It doesn't hurt me that she just lost her life because of what she did to me.
Blood pools underneath her body and soaks through her white clothing. My eyes shift to the side to see Angelo's gun still in the air.
He didn't even hesitate to kill this woman because of what she did to me. There is no emotion on his face so I can't read what's going on in his mind.
Angelo puts his gun away and walks to my side. He wipes the woman's spit off of my face with the sleeve of his coat and he gently smiles at me after my face is rid of the saliva.
"No one messes with you," he whispers and I smile at him.
I turn my attention to the girl who dropped the vase and quickly walk over to her. "I'm sorry Donna," she apologises while bowing her head.
A smile spreads across my face as I lift her head with both my hands. I cup her face between my hands and she looks absolutely confused.
"I don't have that title–"
"Yet," Vincenzo says from behind me and I just smile.
"You don't have to apologise. Take a break, I'll get someone to clean this up," I say to the girl and she nods. She walks out of the ballroom and I turn back to face Vincenzo.
He comes closer and wraps his arms around me. "People are watching us," I whisper because I can feel everyone in the ballroom's eyes on us.
"I don't care," he whispers before pressing his lips to mine.
