《A Dance With Hades》Fifty Two.

It's been two days since we started getting things ready for the annual ball. Loredana and Aurora explained what the ball is in more detail and this actually a big event.

Dons, Capos, enemies, new partners, and many more people of power are going to be stuck in the same house for a night. Business deals will be made, bonds will either be renewed or broken, and people of power will make themselves known.

There's only five days left before the event and we still have so much to do. I've been running up and down to get the basics done and over with, but the bigger things are still weighing down on my shoulders.

Vincenzo has been busy with work more than usual, and for once I have something to do while he's gone.

His brothers haven't come around either so I haven't had someone to talk to while trying to do a good job for Loredana and Aurora.

Today I'm going to check the venue with Angelo and Nicola to see how everything is going, but more importantly, to check if it's actually safe for the family.

The last ball was held somewhere else and Vincenzo doesn't want to disclose the location. All he said is that the security wasn't the best so there were a few slip ups.

He doesn't want that happen this year, especially if I'm going to be in the same room as men who want kill him and his entire family.

This year it's being held on Martinelli and Ricci property. The two families have some large mansion somewhere and they want the ball to be held there.

A lot of work has been piled on top of me, but I don't mind doing any of it.

I tie the shoelaces of my sneakers and jump up from the bed. My phone starts ringing in my pocket and I quickly pull it out.

My father is calling me, something he has made a rare habit in the past few weeks.

I answer the call and bring the phone to my ear, waiting for him to say something to me. My father has been a bit unreasonable in the past few weeks just because of my choice of relationship.

He said a couple of hurtful things and stood by it, so I've been keeping my distance for the time being.

"Nyx," he says from the other end of the phone and I stay quiet for a second longer. One thing my father hates is me being upset and when he is the cause of it. "You have made your point."

"Have I?" I question in a bland tone as I walk out of the room.

The penthouse is empty today because everyone is out doing something related to the ball or just their everyday mafia work.

I quickly make my way downstairs and to the elevator. "Good to hear father," I spit while typing in the code on the keypad. It glows a green colour before flipping over.

"Are you seriously still angry about this?" He asks, his tone becoming hard and a bit louder. Even when he is wrong, my father tries his hardest to prove himself right. "You know I'm right," he says and I just roll my eyes.

Called it.

The elevator doors slide to the sides and I step inside of the confined metal box. I press the button for the ground floor and wait patiently for the elevator to descend to my destination.

"You are very wrong," I spit.

Some of the things he said about Vincenzo were uncalled for and are nowhere being the truth. My father knows nothing of this man so he can't have an opinion on the person he is.

All he has been doing is judging Vincenzo because of the title he holds. He doesn't know enough to compile a good report about him so he just throws all of the things he sees as the negative at me.

"You didn't give him a chance," I say as the elevator doors open. "That's all I'm asking for."

There is a moment of silence between my father and I.

I walk to the Urus parked between Vincenzo's other cars and open the back door. I slide into the backseat and smile at Nicola and Angelo who are in the front seats and they smile right back at me.

Angelo starts the engine and backs out of the parking space next to one of the Lamborghinis.

"Fine," my father finally says and I smile even wider. "And your mother wants to meet him," he says which causes my smile to fall from my face.

She isn't my mother to begin with. She has done nothing but bring misery to my life. I could see how she didn't want me in that house when my father first brought me home.

As years passed, she couldn't hide her hate for me. She made living in that house incredibly hard and uncomfortable.

My only escape was going to university early, so I took that chance with both hands when my father presented it to me.

I don't want Vincenzo to meet her, she isn't a significant part of my life to meet someone as important as Vincenzo.

"No," I say to my father and he snorts.

"I knew you would say that," he laughs and I bet he is shaking his head in the other side of the phone. "I have to go, we will talk later." We say our goodbyes and I hang up once I'm finished.

I'm not going to think about how the woman I'm supposed to call my mother can ruin something as good as my relationship.

The only person she wants to see happy is that awful daughter of hers, so she will do anything to make me miserable.

My sister is just like her mother. Those two were cut from the same cloth. She made living in that house very uncomfortable.

She was nice to me in the beginning but as years passed, she grew to envy me. I haven't done anything wrong to those women, but they find it necessary to make me feel lesser than them.

I don't even remember the last conversation I had with either of them, but I know it ended with them trying to make me feel smaller and lesser than them.

It took a while for my father to actually notice the way they treated me. He turned on his own wife when he found out that she didn't treat me like a human.

They are still married and probably still share the same bed till this day, but I know there isn't any love left in their marriage. I don't know why my father is still with her.

He can get a divorce and finally get rid of that horrible woman. Not having her nor her daughter around will be good for not just me, but also my father.
