《The Alpha's Little Runner》Chapter 19

I woke up from my sleep to find Marcus missing from beside me. I rolled over and found a note. I was tired of notes.
Good morning/afternoon,
I am not sure when you will be awake. I knew you were tired from everything that happened yesterday. I have work to tend to, and I am not sure when I will be done. I have a surprise for you for later. Be ready by 7:00 tonight. I love you and hope you have a great day.
Love,
Marcus
I smiled as I read the note. Marcus is planning a date for us and that is so sweet. I have never had a date, so I was nervous now. I turned over to look at the time and saw it was already 1:27 in the afternoon. I must have really needed the sleep. I haven't slept that long in a while.
I got up and took a long shower. I made sure to shave everything and scrub my body. I still felt dirty from the fight yesterday. After I got out, I put on some sweatpants and a t-shirt. I knew I would get the girls to help me later get ready. I wasn't sure what I needed to wear, so maybe they could help me.
I made my way downstairs and went to the kitchen to get something to eat. I knew I already missed lunch and would have to find something. Once I entered the kitchen, the chef turned and smiled at me, "Hello, Luna! What can I do for you?"
"You can just call me Maddy. I was hoping to get a snack or late lunch. I slept in late today and missed lunch." I said while turning toward the fridge. I went to open it when the chef stopped me. "You go and sit. I will fix you something up. After all, it is my job."
I nodded and made my way over to the stool by the counter. I sat and watched the chef. "I never got your name." I said while trying to make small talk. "I am Chef Alex. I have worked in the kitchen for about 12 years now."
"Well, it is nice to put a name to the person who makes all the amazing food." I smiled while the Chef looked at me with a smile of her own.
She put a grilled chicken salad in front of me and some water. I started to eat while we made small talk.
"Is there anything that needs to be updated in the kitchen? I want to make sure you have everything you need to continue making this delicious food." I asked as I went to put my dishes in the sink.
Alex seemed shocked that I had asked about the kitchen. "Well, we have needed a new oven for a while. I knew the Alpha is busy and a new oven is lest of his problems. We have two more but having the third one saves time."
"I will talk with Marcus and get that fixed right away. Is there anything else?" We talked for a little while longer. I got a small list of things that needed to be updated in the kitchen. I was hoping to be able to discusses this with Marcus soon.
I wanted to be useful around here. I wanted to try and do my best for the pack. I went around for the rest of the afternoon and asked if there were things that need to be updated or fixed around the house. I had a list of things by the time 5:30 came around.

I was sitting at the desk in my room organizing the list when there was a knock on the door. I went to open the door and there stood Polly and Clover. "Marcus told us he was taking you on a date, so we thought we would come and help."
"I was actually going to see if you guys would. I have just been busy all day since I woke up." I said while going back to the desk. I put the finishing touches to my lists and put them to the side for me to get later.
"What were you doing?" Polly asked while she pulled out stuff to do my hair and makeup.
"I went around the house today and asked everyone if there was anything that needed to be updated or fixed in the house. I actually have a good list that I plan to take to Marcus." I said while Clover started to curl my hair.
"That is so thoughtful of you. I won't lie the house hasn't had updates since Marcus took over and our parents moved to their own house. My mom made sure everything was well kept." Clover said while continuing my hair.
We continued to talk over everything that I had listed. Before I knew it, it was almost 7:00.
"I think we are just about done. Go and change into this," Polly handed me an outfit and pushed me into the bathroom.
I pulled on the outfit and looked in the mirror. I gasped as I saw myself. I looked completely different than my everyday look. I knew it was simple, but it was more than I ever did.
I was in an orange dress that came to mid-thigh. It had white polka dots on it and a slight dip in the front. It hugged at my hips before flowing out. I wore simple brown sandals.
My hair was curled to perfection. It sat down my back in beautiful waves. I knew Marcus would like that my hair was down. My make up was light and simple. I hade a light brown eye look that complimented the dress perfectly.
I walked out into the room and the girls squealed with delight. I smiled as I hugged them both. "You look absolutely beautiful Mads." Clover said pulling away.
"I agree with that. The dress compliments your figure well. I know Marcus will love it." Polly said winking at me. I laughed at her before there was a knock on the door.
"Speak of the devil." The girls went to open the door.
"Hey ladies. Is Maddy ready?" It sounded like Marcus was nervous. I giggled at this and stepped up behind the girls. They stepped to the side so Marcus could see me.
He was standing there hold a bouquet of flowers. I smiled at him and looked at what he was wearing. He had on black jeans that hugged his legs in all the right places. He paired it with a light blue button up. The sleeves of the shirt were rolled up to give it a more causal look. He wore some brown shoes that matched mine.
"You look absolutely amazing my love," Marcus hadn't stopped staring at me. Clover cleared her throat to get Marcus to focus. He shook his head before looking up at me and smiling.
"These are for you," Marcus handed me the flowers. They were beautiful. They were orange tulips, which were my favorite flower.

I smelled them, "Thank you for the flower." I handed them over to Clover, "Could you put these in a vase for me?"
"Of course. You two go and have fun!" Clover pushed us out the door. We walked down the stairs and out the door. I wasn't sure what we were going to do, but I was excited.
"We have a little bit of a walk. I hope you don't mind." Marcus said grabbing my hand.
"No, I don't mind at all." We started to head into the woods while making small talk.
"I actually wanted to bring something up to you. I was talking with Chef Alex today after I woke up. She told me about some stuff in the kitchen that needs to be fixed or updated. I also went around the house and asked pack members some other things that needed to be updated. I have a list back at the house. I was going to bring it up to you tomorrow, but I figured now was good." I said while we walked further into the woods.
Marcus stopped and turned to look at me. He was smiling before leaning down and giving me a quick kiss. "You are going to make a great Luna. You are already wanting to help around the pack. We can look at the list tomorrow and see what we can do."
I blushed at his words as we continued on with our walk. It was a few more minutes until Marcus stopped me. "Okay you have to close your eyes now." I was nervous but closed my eyes anyway. Marcus took both of my hands and lead me the rest of the way.
"Okay you can open your eyes now." Marcus whispered in my ear. I opened my eyes to a beautiful site. We were in a clearing that looked out over a valley. The sun was setting causing beautiful shades of orange in the sky. It was breath taking. There were some lights hung in the trees around to give us light after the sun went down.
I looked around and noticed a blanket and basket. I realized we were going to have a picnic dinner. It was so sweet of Marcus to think of this. I turned to him and pulled him into a hug. I pulled back slightly to give him a kiss.
"I take it you like it." Marcus chuckled while leading me over to the blanket.
"I love it! Thank you for doing this," I said while sitting down. I hadn't realized how hungry I was till he started to pull out all the food.
We started to eat the food while talking about different things. Marcus was telling me a story about how he pulled a prank on Clover when they were younger.
"I can tell you care about her a lot." I said while munching on some grapes.
Marcus nodded, "She was my everything until I found you." He smiled leaning over and kissing my cheek.
"I think we should head back before it gets any later." Marcus started to stand. He turned and helped me up. He picked up the basket while I grabbed the blanket. We started to walk back to the pack house hand in hand.
We were in a comfortable silence when we heard movement behind us. Marcus immediately pulled me closer to him and put me behind him. I wasn't sure what made the noise, but I knew not to argue with Marcus right now. He was on high alert.
We were still a good bit away from the pack house. Marcus was scanning the woods and listening for a while. We heard more movement coming from the direction we were facing.
Marcus growled lowly at whatever it was. I peaked around his body to see someone coming from the woods.
"Well well well. Just the person I was looking for." The stranger stayed a good distance back.
"Who are you, and what do you want?" Marcus growled while trying to keep Ian at bay. I rubbed his arm trying to calm him down some.
"I am just a messenger. I was sent to tell Madelyn here that he is coming to get her back. It won't be long until he comes." The person said with a smirk on his face. I knew exactly who he was talking about. I was shaking with fear.
I couldn't go back. I wouldn't make it out alive this time.
"She won't be going anywhere!" Marcus was furious now. I stepped away slightly to give him space. I heard people coming up behind us. I turned to see Everett and some warriors already in wolf form.
The stranger turned and took off into the woods. The warriors took off after the guy. Marcus was trying to calm his wolf down.
"Madelyn are you alright?" Everett asked while still keeping his distance from me and Marcus. I knew he didn't want to do anything to set Marcus off.
I nodded my head while turning to look at Marcus. I walked closer to him and gently put my hand on his arm. He seemed to relax as he turned and pulled me into a hug.
He held me close as he calmed down even more.
"I won't let anyone take you from me! No one!" Marcus said while breathing into my neck. We stood there for a while waiting for him to calm down.
The warriors came back a little while later holding the stranger from earlier. I looked at him as they dragged him by.
"Its good to see you again Madelyn," the stranger said. Marcus growled before going over and punching the guy in the face. He knocked the guy out cold.
"Take him to the cells. I will deal with him later." Marcus said before grabbing my hand and leading me back to the pack house.
I was nervous with what was going to happen next. I knew Marcus would have more guards around. I just hope it was enough to keep him from getting to me.
