Chapter Thirty Nine

||KIT||

"Was that guy bothering you?"

Funny how you ask that you've already filleted him.

I got to my feet shakily, looking down at Kwesi's still body. A part of me felt satisfied about the sight but I shook the thought away, turning my gaze to Toby.

"That wasn't necessary you know."

"S-sorry," I could see his eyes crinkle behind the goggles, "seemed l-like he was trouble."

Looking over to the house, I wondered how long it would take someone to discover the crime scene we just created when I saw Hoodie leave the shadows of the hedge, making his way across the street to us.

I fished my phone out of my pocket, finding Amy's number and sliding the screen before placing the phone to my ear.

After three long rings she picked up and loud music greeted my ears.

"-llo?" Amy's voice was barely audible over the music

"Can you come out front, please? We need to leave right now."

"H'llo-? Kit?"

I sighed putting the mic to my mouth, "I'll come get you!"

Hanging up, I turned to glare at the two boys, "I'll be right back, I'm going to get Amy. Don't do anything. "

They both nodded and a sigh left my lips again as I trudged across the road and back inside.

Quickly making my way to the basement, I squeezed past the sweaty bodies before I spotted Amy coming toward me.

Reaching out a hand, I grabbed hers and pull her toward the stairs.

"Hey, what's going on?"She allowed me to lead her to the exit and as we went up the steps I turned my head to look at her.

"We have to leave."

"Why?"

Finally out of the loud music I lowered my voice, not wanting anyone to overhear as I was walking in step with Amy, headed for the front door, "Toby and Hoodie."

I didn't have to say much else as Amy picked up the pace, taking longer strides, but before we could open the front door her arm was caught from behind by Bryan who appeared seemingly out of nowhere.

"Hey, you two are leaving already?" He was smiling but looked disappointed just the same.

I stopped by the door, not wanting him to open it for fear of what awaited just across the street.

"Yeah we are," Amy tugged her hand away from him, "I'll see you at school?"

"Are you sure you're okay to drive?" he took a few steps forward, "I could drop you two home it's no big deal."

"No!" we both chorused quickly, trying to keep him from coming outside with us.

Amy went and wrapped herself around his arm, a huge fake smile on her face, "you can just go back to the party, I'll text you."

Bryan seemed happy to hear that and he perked up, eyes glinting, "alright, let me know when you're home safe then."

We waited until he turned his back before launching ourselves outside. Toby and Hoodie were just where I had left them and Amy unlocked her car, both of us getting in as she pulled out of the driveway.

The tires screeched when she pulled up before the two oblivious killers and once they were inside the car, we sped off down the street.

"Was that-?" She used the wing mirror to look back at the body that was bloodied and facedown in the grass.

"Kwesi," I confirmed, turning to give Toby a glare, "didn't we tell you two not to come?"

He only shrugged and I switched my stern gaze to Hoodie who immediately lowered his head in what I imagined to be shame.

"Eh, I'm glad for the distraction," Amy spoke up, "the party was kinda shit."

"We'll have the police after us again in no time if they don't stop butchering everyone we come into contact with."

"That's nothing," Amy smirked, her sights divided between me and the road before her, "with these guys on our side we're practically invincible."

I didn't want to think about it but she was kinda right. None of them had ever been caught by the cops and not to mention with what Zalgo and that other guy could do, we didn't really have to worry about getting caught.

We could really do anything if we wanted to, but what would that mean for us? Wouldn't we lose our way?

Besides, who knew what Zalgo's conditions would be if there ever were a next time.

I sat back in my seat with a huff, "last time we got their help you almost ended up in a harem."

"Can you quit it with the holier-than-thou attitude already?" Amy rolled her eyes, "you hated the guy, he got what he deserved. Why are you freaking out about this?"

"Because-"

"Because you're scared if you admit how you really felt, then you'd be a bad person, right? Kit, you're the girl who stayed up watching true crime documentaries instead of studying for finals."

"But this is real," I argued.

"Those cases are real too."

"Why are you so comfortable with killing people all of a sudden?"

"Comfortable, really?"

"That old guy back at the house. You didn't even bat an eye-"

"I did it so you wouldn't have to," Amy gave a pressing glare.

I sighed even more deeply and toyed with my fingers in my lap. She was right.

Again.

Amy was always standing up for me and was usually the voice of reason but now she was telling me to embrace something that we both knew to be wrong.

Just because we had little to no consequences doesn't make it right.

Right?

She wasn't wrong about my morbid curiosity and my obsession with death that I'd quenched with True Crime Documentaries and old tapes about the worst of the worst.

It all changed when I met Masky and was thrown into the world I used to watch from the sidelines. The fact that I could lose my morality was a hard pill to swallow and I just couldn't let it happen.

Still, I couldn't help feeling like a hypocrite, because just like horror movies and roller coaster rides, Masky allowed me to experience terror in a controlled way - the adrenaline rush followed by catharsis that kept me feeling like I was still safe despite everything I was going through, and I don't plan to ever give that up.

My heart did a small flip in my chest as thoughts of Masky were beginning to invade my mind again. The last time I saw him, he'd agreed to go on a normal date with me. That caused a smile to erupt on my face for some reason as I wondered what I wanted us to do together first. The fact that he was trying that hard for me made me feel like I won the jackpot.

First prize: A cold-blooded killer who's also a really good kisser.

"What's that dumb smile about?" Amy asked and I tried my hardest not to get embarrassed, placing a hand over my face.

"Nothing."

"Y'know you get like this with every guy you like, right?"

I shot Amy a glare before looking back at Toby and Hoodie in slight embarrassment, "um no."

"Um yes," Amy mimicked my tone, "it's always 'oh my god I love him so much!' and then you get physically sick of them the moment they don't meet your expectations."

"That's not even true," I almost laughed out loud at her accusation. Insane of her to even suggest I was that kind of person. There are plenty of things that Masky has done that I don't agree with, but I still liked him all the same.

"Yeah, what about Kevin, and Adam-- and Mason-" she stressed his name, pausing as she turned the steering wheel, before continuing, "I would mention Kwesi but you had a legit reason to hate him. The bottom line is, you fall in love just as quickly as you fall out of it."

"You treat guys like they're objects," I shrugged in a way to say 'just throwing it out there'. She wasn't going to air out my dirty laundry with those two in the back without me one-upping her.

Amy paused for a moment before looking over at me, "and?"

"-and you're still too scared to lose your virginity."

I slapped a hand over my mouth as soon as I said it but the damage was already done. I peered over at Amy who nodded, the sides of her mouth turned down in a mock scowl.

"Touche."

"Sorr-" I started to apologize but she cut me off.

"No, it's fine. I started it," she then killed the engine and that's when I realized we were already back in her driveway. I hung back as Hoodie and Toby climbed out after Amy, sliding out of my seat and closing the door behind me.

Amy yawned and I shuffled the keys out of my purse and handed them to her.

"I'm exhausted," Amy was taking her shoes off, and after, she turned the key in the lock and entered the house. I noticed Toby and Hoodie didn't make a move to go in and with my hand on the doorknob, I turned to look at them.

"Are you going to leave?"

"Yeah, we g-got places to be."

I looked at Amy's back headed up the stairs before turning my gaze to Toby again, "um, will he be there?"

I didn't miss the grin that came over his face, "why, you wanna c-come with us?"

I nodded without a second thought, my stomach doing flips at the prospects of seeing Masky again but Hoodie placed a heavy hand on Toby's shoulder, his hooded face still turned in my direction.

"She can't go there."

It was the first time I'd ever heard him say more than one word but the shock of hearing his voice didn't distract me from what he was trying to do. I let the door go, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Well, why not?"

Toby's eyes held a sinnister look behind the goggles he wore, "I'm sure she would appreciate it if we took her Brian."

A disgruntled Brian huffed behind his hood, turning and thumping away down the driveway.

Toby raised his shoulders in a shrug before turning and jogging to catch up.

"Hey, you coming up?"

I turned to see Amy was peeking down at me from the top of the landing. Giving the two boys one last glance as they disappeared down the street, I went inside and closed the door behind me.

My chest grew heavier with every step I took and when I finally fell into bed an hour later, showered and dressed, the hundredth sigh left my lips. Amy was already fast asleep on her side of the bed, her chest heaving with each shallow breath she took.

Pulling the covers up to her chin, I rolled out of bed and slipped my feet into the fluffy bedroom slippers that shielded my feet from the cold floorboards.

My stomach turned but I didn't feel like eating anything and once I was downstairs in the kitchen, I poured myself a glass of water to quench my parched throat.

I was halfway done drinking when my heart did a backflip and the hairs on the back of my neck prickled with awareness.

With a shaking hand I placed the glass on the kitchen island, turning slowly, my eyes flitting around the semi-dark room for any signs of an intruder.

After a few seconds the only thing that caught my eye was the kitchen window curtains billowing in the night air.

Abandoning the glass, I made my way out of the kitchen, my heart thudding expectantly in my chest. I crossed the hearth and as I got to the bottom of the stairs, hand on the bannister and one leg forward, my stomach twisted at the sound that came from behind me.

My skin prickled and I slowly turned my head, my body following in sucession as I looked toward the front door, heart fluttering in my chest like a cornered mouse.

My lips parted slightly as I saw the familiar burnt orange jacket and effeminate mask.

He's here.

He didn't move, standing before the opened door with his legs apart, shoulders broad and menacing. In his right hand was his weapon; the crowbar was dripping a substance I couldn't see due to the darkness.

I struggled to swallow, a thick silence yawning between us as we looked at each other. The feeling that I was in danger was suddenly overwhelming and as my fight or flight kicked in, I spun on my heels, taking off up the stairs as fast as I could go.

I heard the thumping of his feet across the room and I was almost halfway up when my leg was grabbed tightly, the sudden assault causing me to lose my balance and my body met the cold hardwood.

I hardly had time to react to the pain before Masky was dragging me down the stairs and once I came to a stop at the bottom, he was standing over me, his masked appearance sending chills down my spine while his left hand came to rest around my neck.

Then he was squeezing down tightly, bringing my face up so I could see the crazed look in his eyes behind the eyeholes of his mask.

My hands reached up to tap his as I struggled to breathe but he didn't care to let go. I heard the sound of metallic clatter when his crowbar hit the ground and he was then using his free hand to throw his mask up on top of his head. I drank in his demented look, his gaze shifting quickly between my eyes and lips before he was capturing my mouth with his.

It was already hard to breathe and with him further restricting my oxygen intake all I could do was squirm.

Finally satisfied with my desperate struggle for air he let my neck go and I was left sucking in a breath, sprawled on the ground while he looked down at me with unfeeling eyes and a sadistic smirk like he was proud of turning my brain to mush.

I managed to sit upright, my fingertips lightly passing over the tender skin of my neck that I knew would be bruised after this. As I raised my head, his hand caught my chin and he was peering into my eyes with his own narrowed ones.

"Open up," his voice tugged at something deep in my core and I let my mouth fall open, my body shaking in anticipation.

Something about him-

Something about him made me not want to think anymore. What did he want to do to me? I didn't care at this point. It had only been two days since I'd seen him last but it felt like a lifetime.

Wherever his bare skin met mine felt as if it were on fire, sizzling with the passion I felt inside.

He's here.

And he's looking down at me with those eyes. In the pale light of the moon, I could see blood splatters on his face and jacket, and my insides clenched.

He'd been hunting.

I watched him use his teeth to remove the glove from his free hand before his thumb was caressing my cheek and then passing over my lips, rubbing a slow circle around them before it was entered in my mouth.

My tongue licked at his thumb and I watched his jaw work as he looked down at me wordlessly, allowing me to continue the act. I would much rather to be sucking on something else but as my hand reached out to touch his waist, it was grasped by him and he was removing his thumb from my mouth, now slick with saliva.

"Did you miss me?"

I nodded, about to get to my feet when he stopped me by splaying his whole palm flat over my face.

"Stay right there."

I tilted my head slightly to the side as he took his hand away and I watched him rummage around in the bag he was carrying on his back, pulling out a dark grey object. I recognized it to be a video camera and immediately started to feel anxious when he flicked it open, the flash nearly blinding me.

"You look good down there," I heard him chuckle, his hand reaching down to grab my hair and pull, forcing me to look up at him. His eyes stood out despite the glare that threatened to blind me.

"Masky-" I reached my hands upwards trying to block the light from my eyes, wincing when my hair was tugged harshly, a hiss leaving his lips.

"Smile, go on."

I felt so conflicted in myself, my breathing ragged as I was forced to look up at him with furrowed brows and a trembling lower lip. Why was he doing this to me- and why did I like the way it made me feel?

The look on his face made my mouth dry and my panties wet; my poor heart could only beat so fast.

"Smile for the camera, baby."

My eyes almost rolled into my skull as his hand found my middle and waves of pleasure coursed through me, my clit throbbing in anticipation when his hand let my hair go and traveled down to my chest. I was wearing one of my many oversized shirts without a bra and as he moved a hand down he caught a nipple with his thumb and forefinger, rolling it between them. An elongated moan left my lips when he increased the pressure, the pain causing my nether to clench tightly while I tried not to think about the video light shining down on me.

Traveling his hand back up he stuffed two fingers into my mouth and I fought the urge to gag, tears springing up in my eyes at the intrusion.

"I had a rough day," he dug deeper, his fingers breaching the back of my throat, tears spilling down my cheeks.

"Do you know what that means?" his tone was mocking and he slid his fingers out of my mouth, grabbing my face and staring down at me intently from behind the camera. I sucked in a breath unsure if I should shake my head or not.

His unbroken stare morphed into a malicious smile as his eyes arrested mine, "you're gonna have a rough night."
