《Accidentally Knocked Up》9

Yesterday, I was determined to talk to Darren, but he left already for the day. So now here I am pacing in front of his office with a cup of coffee. I don't know what kind he drinks so I went with mine. Hopefully, he doesn't mind a cameral macchiato. I have looked around the office, patiently impatiently waiting for him. I can see why this company has become one of the best places to work in the country. Everyone comes into work happy and actually likes their job. I don't know how the other bosses are on their floor, but here it's very relaxing for the most part.

I scan the floor, my eyes meeting Walter's. Damn it. I'm more than certain he fancies me. He went from subtle flirting to boldly ask me out. I turned him down every chance and I think that just fuels the fire within him. Walter waves his hand making his way toward me. Crap. It's not like I can just run off. He probably was watching me pace back and forth for god knows how long.

Now, don't get me wrong Walter isn't ugly from a long shot. This man is very attractive just not, a guy I could see myself with. In a sense, he reminds me of a younger Benjamin Bratt just a bit muscular. Now if Walter wasn't so flirtatious with other coworkers I would probably take him a little more serious.

"Waiting for the boss man?" He leans against the wall.

"Yup." I keep it short, looking at everything but him.

"So, what are your plans for the weekend? I would love to take you out for drinks." He smiles at me.

Darren's office door opens. Wait, was he inside this entire time? Jeez, why didn't he make any sounds in there? I could have saved myself the trouble of not dealing with Walter. Darren looks over at me then his eyes land on Walter.

"What brings you two to my door, gossiping so early this morning? Are you looking for more work to do?" I hear a hint of jealousy in his tone.

"Not I boss. Alsie here on the other hand maybe." He looks at me. "Uh, I guess I should get going I need to take some files to the 4th floor." Walter briskly walks off leaving me with a dumbfounded look on my face. Seriously, dude?

"Actually, I stopped by to bring you some coffee and was wondering if you and I can have a chat? If you're busy we can talk another—"

"I'm free now." He cuts me off moving aside to let me walk in.

Entering his office, my eyes drift to the massive photo hanging up of him, Selena, and Zoey. Yet the photo was no longer there. I wonder why he took it down all of a sudden.

"Are you looking for something?" Darren questions, following my gaze to the blank wall.

"Uh no. Umm, here I got you coffee." He looks at the Starbucks cup suspiciously before taking it, thanking me. I use both hands to grip my coffee cup as I take a seat across from his desk. Darren slowly takes his seat, sipping his coffee. My eyes fly to his mouth as he licks his lips. Sweet baby baby, flashes of that night hit me like a freight train. I can say with 100% truth, I know what that mouth can do.

"Sweet," he says and I look up at his eyes. "I don't like sweet coffee, but thank you. I will enjoy it today. So what would you like to talk to me about?"

Just come out and say it already.

"I'm pregnant—"

"I know." His eyes feel like it's piercing my soul.

"Right, and I guess you know that I'm carrying your child?" I ask and he nods his head. So he did hear my conversation with Cassie, and Mr. Jackson said he didn't. "So I want you to know that I want to keep the baby and I hope that is okay with you, if not I—"

"I would like for you to keep the baby as well." He says.

My eyes widen at his response. "Well, I guess that part is settled then. I know you probably don't want to discuss this, but I will have to tell Selena and my parents—I would like for you to be there." Okay, so I know I shouldn't have said that. I know I shouldn't have asked for him to face Selena, but I want—no need his support with this. I don't really communicate that well with my family either so I need him in my corner for this.

"You're right I don't want to discuss that. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do such a thing. Telling your family is more of a personal problem for you, not me." He pauses taking a deep breath. Just peachy he isn't as supportive and understanding as I thought he would be. "How about you call them? I'll be right next to you when you do so." He adds. Okay so maybe just maybe he might be. I would love to deliver the news in person, but if this is his way of being here for me then I'll take it for now.

"Would you like to make the call now?" I ask him. "I just really want to get this over with."

He nods his head. Placing my coffee on the desk, I take my phone out of my pocket. I hover over Selena's name. Reluctantly, I hit the facetime icon and the phone begins to ring. A few seconds later the call connects and a little girl, I assume is Zoey's face fills the screen.

"Hello?" she answers.

"Hi, are you Zoey?" I asked and I can see Darren tense up from across from me.

"Sure am. Are you aunty Alsie?"

"You know who I am?"

"Yes, grandpa Will has your photos around his and grandma's house. You're really pretty."

"Thank you and you're really pretty too. How old are you now? Gosh, you grew a lot."

Zoey smiles and it's contagious, I catch myself smiling at the phone too. "I'm seven about to be eight in a few months. Mommy is going to throw me a huge party, you should come. Aunty Alsie do I have any cousins? Can they come to the party? I would love to meet them? I don't like Aunty Stephanie's kids. They aren't nice to me." She pouts.

"I would like to come to your party, but I will have to talk to your mommy. Is she around?"

"She is with daddy in the kitchen, I'll go get her—actually, I can just bring her the phone. Silly me." She giggles. I watch as she moves through the house. Darren clears his throat and I look at him. I can tell he is nervous or maybe he wanted to talk to his daughter—or holy crap—he is probably pissed that Zoey is calling another guy daddy. I mute the phone.

"Would you like to talk to them? Or at least show your face?"

He shakes his head no.

"Zoey, Hunny what are you doing with my phone? Did you call someone?" I hear Selena and quickly unmute the phone, just in time. She takes the phone from Zoey and looks at me with a frown on her face. Excusing herself from her husband or boyfriend and Zoey. "Why are you calling me?" she snaps.

"I needed to tell you something. Do you have time, right now?" Sheesh, I was starting to stutter.

"We haven't spoken in years. I doubt I want to hear anything you have to say now."

What a bitch.

Darren gets up and walks around the desk stopping at my chair. I keep the phone only focused on me. My heart feels like it's about to explode or fall right out of my ass.

"If you're in any kind of trouble, I'm not bailing you out. So have a good day." Selena snaps.

Darren quickly takes the phone from me. "Selena."

"Darren! What are you doing with my sister? Give her back the phone." Now she wants to sound all concerned. Cry me a fucking river.

"Weren't you about to hang up on her? But that's neither here nor there. Your sister is pregnant and it's my child." He says coldly.

Selena gasps. "What kind of sick joke are you two playing?! Is this some kind of revenge on your part, Darren? Are you still bitter about Zoey not being yours?" She says the last part in a hushed tone.

"What?!" I turn around in my seat looking up at Darren. What the actual fuck is going on?
