Chapter Four

||KIT||

Everyone seemed to be slightly shaken up but Cassandra insisted the massacre was no reason to ruin our plans and as we got back into the car Mason took the steering wheel since it was his turn to drive while the other two went around the back. They huddled up close to each other and were asleep about five minutes later. I took the aux cord and connected it to my phone.

"Hell no," Mason said looking over at me with wide eyes before turning his gaze back to the road, "you have way too much weird shit on that."

"Hey! They're not weird," I complained with what I hoped was a cute pout and he chuckled slightly before bursting out in laughter once Candy Shop came on.

"That's not weird but still, it's so old."

"Wha-at it's a classic!'' I grinned and waved my hands a bit singing along, "I'll take you to the candy shop-"

"You're such a dork," he shook his head with a laugh and I ducked my own head in embarrassment before skipping the song quickly.

"Get with the times Kitani," he chuckled.

"I'm with the times," I protested, "alright watch."

I chose the next song and saw his expression visibly harden.

'Come on over in my direction~' I crooked both index fingers at him, beconing him over as I tried not to laugh.

''No" he barked making me let out a squeal of laughter I couldn't hold back.

"Got me feeling some kinda way-" I placed a hand over my chest dramatically, giving him a pouty expression.

"Please stop," Mason groaned, a pained expression on his chiseled face.

"But the best part's coming up," I countered, causing him to look at me in disbelief.

"Kit don't you dare sin-"

"I'm gonna do it!"

"If you do I'll kick you out of this car I swear," He warned but I didn't care since I enjoyed annoying him.

"Des...pa..." I raised my arms.

"Stop-"

"Cito!" I sang along to the song, tumbling over the rest of the words since I had no sense of the Spanish language while I flailed my arms and moved my hips fluidly dancing to the track as Mason only face-palmed, one hand on the steering.

"I dislike you," he mumbled.

"Love you too," I drawled, grinning a little as I finally settled down in my seat, my stomach fluttering with butterflies.

He glanced over at me briefly and I saw the ghost of a smile on his lips which made my heart melt.

"You know I was kinda bummed Amy couldn't make it but you're actually not so bad Blair."

The smile instantly dropped from my face and I saw his expression change to one of concern.

"What? Did I say something?"

"No no of course not!" I tried to give a convincing smile, "Amy is pretty cool haha, anyone would wanna hang with her."

"Yeah," he smiled brightly pushing his hair back with one hand, "She's just... amazing."

"How long?"

"Huh?" He raised an eyebrow looking over at me.

"How long have you liked her?"

His cheeks reddened faintly and he gave an awkward shrug, "Is it that obvious?"

I gave a short nod.

"I don't really know I just do. I've always wanted to tell her but you know it's hard to approach someone you have a crush on sometimes."

Hah! How ironic. Was Mason that dense though? How could he not notice I was madly in love with him? And if he didn't like me why was he being so nice? Back at the diner it even seemed like he was going to kiss me- but he didn't. He likes Amy instead. Of course he would. Anyone would choose her in place of me. She's funny, down to earth and gets along with everyone.

Nothing like his stuck up sister.

Mason was going to be just as disappointed as I am now though, because Amy likes someone else, I think. she's probably having a great evening with him right now.

"What about you?" He asked, "Do you like anyone?"

I bit the inside of my lip, "Kinda."

"Not working out for you?" He seemed genuinely concerned and I almost confessed to him, almost, but after seeing the way his face changed when Amy came up I knew he would not take very well to my affections for him.

I released a sigh and decided to not spoil the rest of the drive.

"It might work out, one day." I said softly.

He nodded in agreement and the rest of the drive went on with me finding out what songs annoyed him most which got a few laughs and eased the awkward air that had clouded the car earlier. The scene from the diner long forgotten.

Finally we pulled up to the cabin after Dylan's car and I got out to stretch my legs, taking long strides after collecting my bag from the car that held my bare necessities.

I realised I wasn't the only one affected by the long drive. Dylan was throwing both his legs out before him while Nick massaged Stephanie's shoulders making me almost gag at how cute they were.

May and Rolland stumbled out of the car after me and Mason and while May made her way inside Rolland was practically doing splits to ease his legs making me giggle a bit.

My jaw dropped when I finally took in my surroundings. Pine trees along with several species of flowering brush and lush vegetation surrounded the cabin.

The clearing at the front had freshly cut dew wet grass and a cold wind blew making me squint my eyes a bit. I was the last to get inside and I tried not to seem too impressed at the wood interior.

The cabin was warmed by a fire and looking around I spotted some book shelves at one side of the sitting area that I planned to inspect later.

Mason briefed me quickly about the different rooms and I thanked him before heading to the bathroom.

After washing my face I got my phone out and texted Amy.

Her reply came a few minutes later.

I smiled at the text and looked around the rooms upstairs for a bit before going back downstairs, leaving my bag in one of the rooms I'd chosen to sleep in. It also had a nice dome window from where I could see the big round full moon shining down. A few posters of old boy bands were hung up that made me laugh as I remembered my earlier teen years.

Music was pumping from the speakers when I got downstairs and everyone had made themselves comfortable. Nick was poking the fire while Stephanie, May, Rolland and Mason were all sitting around on the beanbags. I could tell they'd all been taking shots too from the empty shot glasses and bottles of liquor on the table. Cassandra had started making out with Dylan furiously into one of the couches after taking a shot and I leaned awkwardly against the wall hugging my arms.

I just knew it was gonna get awkward.

This wasn't my scene at all. I felt like I was intruding on their perfect lives. What could I ever hope to contribute here? They're all populars who have more experience with everything the world has to offer than I do. I was the odd one out. I would try to spark a conversation with Mason but he seemed busy, his head leaning back against the chair as he laughed at a joke. That's when I remembered the book shelves full of books and I thanked the heavens. I was saved! Unless it was all cookbooks I was pretty sure reading would help me feel a lot less empty and lonely.

I'd almost turned around when there came a whistle and Nick grinned walking over to the center of the room with an empty bottle in hand, his brown hair sticking to his sweaty forehead from the time he'd spent by the fire, "Now for our traditional game of Strip Spin The Bottle."

What? I thought it was just Spin The Bottle?

My brows furrowed and I watched as Rolland let out a whoop, pushing one of the chairs out of the way to make space on the floor. They all started to form a circle and my palms began to sweat.

"C'mon Kit," Mason chuckled calling me over but I was too frozen to move.

"I..I don't really wanna p-" I started to say shaking my head until I saw Cassandra's death glare.

Gosh Darnit! If I don't go it would probably cause trouble.

"But uh..okay I guess I could," I trailed off as I slowly sat down between Rolland and Mason which put me across from Cassandra and Nick. It was really hard for me to not look at her.

Mason spun first and the bottle stopped on May. My mouth fell open when she giggled and pulled her top off over her head leaving her in a black lace bra underneath. I could feel my legs shaking. I can't take my clothes off here! What the hell is wrong with them?

A couple spins later I was ready for the earth to open up and take me in. Mason and Rolland were both shirtless beside me and Nick was down to his boxers. Cassandra, Dylan and I were the only lucky ones so far. Stephanie had 'cheated' according to Dylan when she only took off her socks instead of starting at the top like everyone else.

The bottle was spun by Cassandra and came to a slow stop, the pointy end leaning more to me than Mason and I bit the inside of my lip softly as I shrugged out of my jacket, blushing a bit at the Hello Kitty scrawled across my pink top.

"Jesus, you're like a child," Cassidy mumbled and Mason chuckled.

"I think it's cute, besides with those jugs you can hardly call her a child."

I ducked my head in embarrassment. I wasn't sure whether to feel pleased that Mason called my shirt cute or upset that he referred to my breasts as 'jugs'.

A few more spins later the bottle stopped on me again and my head snapped up.

"I- I-"

"Just take it off," Nick hiccupped in annoyance, nudging my side with his elbow painfully and I winced.

"I don't want to. This is kinda stupid. How can we just sit around playing this dumb game when we just witnessed a crime scene?" My voice was raising dramatically as I got to my feet.

There's no way I could undress in front of them.

"You bitch!" I barely had time to react before Cassandra got to her feet and pushed me to the floor, swinging her arm which lightly grazed my cheek. I was in shock and I watched as Mason and Dylan dragged her off upstairs to calm her down. It all happened so fast I hardly had time to register what really went down.

"You just had to ruin it huh, bitch?"

Ignoring Stephanie's remark I slowly pulled my sweater back on and sat on the couch with a soft sigh. Some movement caught my eye and I turned my head to look out the window. I couldn't see much apart from the dark shadow of the large tree beside the window and my brows furrowed as I saw a glint of something shiny.

"I'm talking to y-" Stephanie's words were cut short as the whole cabin was immediately plunged into darkness.

"What the hell?" May spoke up and I blinked a bit trying to get used to the darkness.

Footsteps came down the stairs shortly after.

I jumped slightly as someone touched my shoulder.

"Don't worry it's just me," Mason said, I could tell he was grinning from the sound of his voice.

"Are you guys going to fix this or not?" May was sounding a lot snobbier than usual.

I squinted as light was shone my way then around the room. Dylan and Nick where using the flashlights on their phones.

"We're gonna check the fuse box don't worry ladies, lights should be back on in no time."

Stephanie pulled Nick back before he got to the door as Dylan went out and gave him a kiss on the lips which made me roll my eyes.

"You better fix it," She mumbled and he chuckled before pinching her cheek and leaving the room, locking the door behind him.

I gasped as Mason wrapped an arm around my waist pulling me close to his front.

"You alright?"

"Y-yeah," I couldn't believe it.

Had I done something to deserve all this?

Mason, the guy I'd been crushing on for almost six months had noticed me. Maybe he's just being nice to me because he sees me as a friend and nothing more but this was more than I'd ever dreamed would happen to me and I rested my head against his chest.

"I'm gonna look for candles," Rolland announced.

May let out a grunt, "this fucking blows!"

A surprised squeak left my lips as I felt Mason's hands travel down my back and cup my behind, giving it a squeeze.

"Maso-"

"Shh," his hands kneaded and groped and I pushed lightly against his chest not wanting to embarrass him or myself by making a fuss.

"S-stop."

His arms tightened around me pinning mine between our bodies and barely giving me room to wriggle free, the only thing left to do was bite but before I could, the handle of the door started to jiggle.

"Dylan? Is that you?" May asked timidly.

"Of course it's them you idiot." Stephanie snapped and I heard her advance to the door. The handle continued to jiggle but no one answered. My thoughts flashed back to the scene at the diner.

"Dylan?" Stephanie waited a moment and the jiggling stopped, still no one answered.

"It's not him Steph don't open it," I said pulling myself out of Mason's grip who didn't try to restrain me any longer.

"Shut up Kit, no one asked you!"

"I just think-"

"Shut up! Gosh who the fuck even invited you anyway? You spoiled our whole night and now the lights are out!"

My chest tightened, as did my fists and although I couldn't see her I could just imagine myself pushing her off a cliff for how much of a jerk she was being right now. I only turned and walked away, making my way up the stairs as best as I could in the darkness, my eyes had grown accustomed to it a bit and I could see well enough.

I couldn't remember which room I'd left my bag in for a bit but as I opened the door I knew, because over by the window stood Cassandra and in her grasp was my phone.

"Well, well, well," She crossed her arms over her chest, a disgusted look on her face, "look who has a crush on my brother."
