《Call Of Death》Chapter 37 : Mixed Feelings

Dangling lights, loud music and partying people are seen in every corner outside the bar. Fancy cars and wealthy looking people are consecutively getting inside. Everything looks fun. There must be more of this from inside but Cameron and Devius can't even take a step towards the door. They just both stood there in surprise, mouth agape as they look at the bar's name.
"PARADISE GAY BAR!?" They said in unison, both in disbelief and shock is visible on their faces.
"Cai, tell me I'm just hallucinating." Officer Chad turned to look at his partner.
"I wish for the same, Chad. I really wish this is just some kind of hallucinations." Detective Lee sighed and shook his head.
"Why would Chief Simon send us to a place like this? I can't go inside there, I'm not—I just can't!" Officer Chad's voice shouts stress.
Cameron didn't say anything, instead, he took out his phone and started dialing his superior's number. The line wasn't picked up at his first try but he wasn't gonna give up. He tried calling Chief Simon again and again and at last, the phone was picked up. He went a little farther for some space so he could talk to his superior.
"Chief, why didn't you tell us that it was a goddamn gay bar?" He started complaining when she answered the other line.
"You didn't asked me and one more thing, what is the big deal? You're just there for business, Cameron." Sara Simon reasoned but Detective Lee isn't satisfied yet.
"Chief, do you really expect me to go in there?" He said, strongly declining.
"You're a detective, Cameron. Everyhing is just for your mission. Good luck." Then the line was cut.
"CHIEF! Hello?" He called but the call already ended.
Detective Lee could do nothing but sigh by the fact that his superior hanged up on him. Even if it's against his will to enter that kind of place because he was so uncomfortable. He knows for the fact, just like what Chief Simon said, it was for their mission. His personal feelings cannot affect his job. He returned to where Officer Chad was.

"Cai, what did Chief Simon said?" Devius asked.
Detective Lee shook his head and sighed. "It's for the mission, let's just go inside." He surrendered.
"But, Cai..."
"This mission means a lot for our case, Devius. If we succeed, we might find out Michael's mother's whereabouts. We might also find out the identity of the killer. We'll do this for the mission and nothing else." Cameron explained and for some reason, he managed to convince Officer Chad to get in.
They're still both dithering as they walk towards the entrance. Cameron's heart was beating fast from nervousness but he tried his best to act normal as they approach the main door. Officer Chad couldn't help but secretly glanced at his partner because he noticed that his reaction was far from uncomfort, he can sense how nervous he is. Devius could also count of how many times did Detective Lee's Adam's apple went up and down.
"Cai, is it your first time going inside a gay bar?" He whispered to Cameron's ear, making Detective Lee suddenly retreat out of surprise, he became even more nervous when he felt his warm breath in his ear.
"Why the hell are you blowing at my ear?" He asked in annoyance.
Officer Chad smiled awkwardly. "I'm not blowing at your ear, I was asking you if it's your first time going to this kind of place." He repeated.
Detective Lee's stared daggers at him because of his question. "Are you seriously asking me that? Do you think I'll go to this kind of places?" He gave him a fierced look.
"No. Hahaha." Devius playfully laughed.
Detective Lee glared at Office Chad. "What are you laughing at?"
"Don't be mad, Cai. I'm just trying to ease your nervousness. Now, you seemed more calm, let's go." Devius held his wrist and pulled him inside the place.
As expected, everything was filled with noises and cheerful partying. Officer Chad search for a place where the both of them could stay but everything seemed to be occupied. On the other hand, Detective Lee couldn't take his eyes off of Officer Chad's hand that was still holding onto his wrist. He still feels nervous but his partner's touch made him more comfortable. His confusion was rising again even if he's aware that it's not the time for that.

'Dang it.'
After some while, Officer Chad begun walking again and Cameron just followed as the guy was holding him. He felt his heart pounding in a not so unfamiliar pace. He slowly lifted up his sight and it went directly at Devius' back. He was walking ahead of him from the crowd. For some reason, everything around him seemed to have became in slow motion again.
"What the hell is this?" He whispered to himself as he placed his other hand on his chest. "Why the hell is my heart beating this fast?"
He was so deep in his thoughts and confusion that he didn't even noticed that Officer Chad was already standing facing him. Devius noticed how distracted Detective Lee was and he thought it was because it's his first time coming at a gay bar. It was also his first time but maybe Detective Lee wasn't just into this kind of places. Devius isn't comfortable inside but he is not as nervous as how Detective Lee looks.
"Cai, let's sit down and observe." He smiled and helped Detective Lee to sit down.
"Hmm." Detective Lee hummed.
"Well, do you have any idea who the person we're looking for? Do you have photo of him?" Officer Chad asked.
Detective Lee shook his head and said, "I don't know but just keep observing. Anyone who seemed suspicious could be the person we're looking for." He ordered, Devius just nodded his head and did as he was told.
"But, how are we going to recognize our guy if we don't have any photos of him?" Officer Chad asked in confusion.
Cameron sighed and turned to his partner. "Chief Simon said he will be wearing something different from everyone. We just need to observe." Devius just nodded in response.
They sat there silently for a while. Officer Chad was busy observing his surroundings even if he doesn't know who they are looking for while Detective Lee was trying his best to calm down. The noise from the people partying and the loud music is making him anxious. He was once in a place like this and the more that he wanted to forget it, the more he seem to remember. No one knows the dark secret of his past because he wanted it to remain a secret until his death but the feeling is just so hard to hide.
"Excuse me, sir, drink?" A guy wearing a bunny costume offered.
"Uh... Thanks?" Devius awkwardly accepted it because Cameron is too busy avoiding everyone.
"Do you want anything else, sir?" The guy asked again.
"Hmm. No, thank you..." Officer Chad looked at the name tag he was wearing. "...Alex."
The guy smiled and nodded. "Just call me if you need anything." Then he walked away.
"Wooh..." Devius breath deeply. "I've never felt this awkward before." He whispered.
He took a sip at the drink and begun observing again. When he turned to Detective Lee, he noticed that some tiny drop of sweats are forming on his forehead, probably because Cameron is too nervous. Devius smiled and shook his head. He took out the his handkerchief and started wiping the sweat out of Detective Lee.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Cameron quickly dodged him.
"You're sweating."
"I just don't feel comfortable, you don't have to touch me."
"But you're sweating." Devius insisted.
Cameron shook his head. "I'll be fine."
Little did Officer Chad know, aside from the discomfort that Cameron is feeling because of the place, there's also another reason why his partner is acting like that. It's because Cameron is confused because the moment Devius touch him, a hint of electricity run down his veins. Just looking directly at the latter's eyes can make his heart go crazy. All throughout the time that they were sitting with each other, Cameron did his best to avoid having any physical contact towards Devius. The mixed feelings he has is very confusing and he doesn't want to deal with it while they were in a mission. Yet he had decided to get rid of it as soon as he can.
