《Call Of Death》Chapter 34 : Dream and Memories
Advertisement
Just like the usual days, Detective Cameron Lee and Officer Devius Chad was out working and investigating about the Killer Caller case all day. The only time they could rest is when they have to eat lunch or take nature break. But despite their heavy workloads and busy days, Cameron still couldn't take that dream off of his head. He kept thinking why everything happened as if he was back there for real. The dream feels really real. He's not even sure now if it was a dream or a memory.
"Senior, you've been spacing out since this morning. Does it have anything to do with your dreams last night?" Officer Chad sat beside him while they were resting on a bench after doing another investigation.
"It's nothing, Chad."
"I know you told me that you're not ready to talk about it yet but it's the first time I saw this stressed out."
"Really, it's nothing, don't mind me." He simply answered.
"How can I not mind you? You seemed really bothered by something and I have a feeling that it's because of that dream you had last night which I am not allowed to talk about because I don't want to worry you more." He honestly said as he sighed.
"I'm just thinking about about that case we're investigating. Don't jump into conclusions, Chad." Cameron told him.
"You can't fool me, Detective Lee."
"Tss. You wanna know about my dream?"
Officer Chad twitched the corner of his lips. "If you can tell me, what did you dreamt about last night?" He questioned hesitantly.
"It's nothing serious. It's just some normal dreams like other dreams. Stop worrying about it and let's just keep working." Detective Lee stood up and walked away.
Devius just followed him with his eyes. He knows something was up. He has a feeling that Detective Lee is hiding something from him. He wanted to ask more but he doesn't want to force his partner to tell him if he's not ready yet. On the other hand, Cameron was really bothered by that dream but he doesn't want to think about anything. He wants to keep it just like that. If only his adopted father was here, it would be more easy for him because he's the only person he truly trusts.
"Senior! Wait for me." Officer Chad shouted as he run towards Cameron's direction.
"Hurry up." He shouted back.
Officer Chad smiled. "Senior, with the informations we have now, will we be able to catch the culprit sooner?" He questioned.
Detective Lee shoved his hands into his pants' pocket. "I can't say that the informations we have are enough to figured out the culprit's identity but I'll do everything to put that bastard behind bars."

"But like you said, the evidence aren't enough to point out who the suspect is. If only we could contact that Red guy again." Officer Chad took a deep breath.
"You're right. I tried calling the number he used multiple times but he never answered. It wasn't trackable either."
"But senior, do you think that Red guy knows more than he told us? Do you really think he knows the killer?"
Detective Lee shook his head. "I don't know but I have a feeling that he could bring us some information about the culprit. It's just that, he's not so willing to tell us more." He stated.
The two walked to the car and got inside. It's almost dark but they still have to go to some places for some investigation regarding the case. They've been everywhere since they head out of their apartment. Little did they know that with their every move, someone is watching from a far. Someone was wearing a black coat and in his hand was a cellphone. On his lips curved a devilish grin.
He let out a cold laugh and mumbled, "Just keep looking for me and let's see who is better. Don't be impatient, Cameron Lee because we'll meet again soon... really soon."
The man walked out from behind the tree he was hiding earlier. He started heading to the place he considers the most dangerous yet the safest one.
When night time came again, Detective Lee and Officer Chad drove back home. They both slammed back to their seats in exhaustion. Staring at the ceiling for quite some time before Detective Lee headed to the bathroom and cleaned himself, after him, Officer Chad followed. Cameron prepared dinner, it's been a month since they did this routine.
Slowly, for the time they spent with each other, Detective Lee and Officer Chad build up some kind of bond and they don't quarrel anymore like before. After eating dinner, Devius opened a can of beer and handed it to his partner before opening his.
"Beer again?" Detective Lee gave him a 'for real?' look.
Officer Chad giggled. "What? Just one beer, it won't kill you."
"Ever since I met you, I learned how to drink this kind of things." He said but still took the beer from his partner.
"I'm honored. Anyway, senior, I have something to tell you." Devius started while leaning on the wall.
"You're getting used of calling me senior, huh? Don't you find it a bit strange?" Detective Lee questioned.
Devius let out a chuckle. "I don't think so. Addressing you like that feels more better than calling you, sunbay." He teased.
"It's seonbae, you'll never pronounce it right." Detective Lee shook his head.

"What about..." Officer Chad teasingly cut his sentence.
"What about what?"
"Yeobo? Jagiya? I learned those words from watching kdrama, do you want me to call you those?" He laughed.
Cameron gave his partner a death glare, hiding his embarrassment. "Tss! What do you want to tell me, anyway?"
"Oh, that?" Officer Chad hesitated for a while before saying, "Did you ever consider that the one who called you, that guy named Red, could be the killer? Or, someone who knows you or us?" Then he gulped on his drinks.
Detective Lee thought for a moment. In fact, that had crossed his mind but he didn’t have enough basis. Apart from the fact that Red was the one who stamped about the victim Lee Jin Hong, he also gave them a clue. And the clue is red, so it's really chaotic and hard to pinpoint.
"W-Why am I back here?"
"You were never out of this place, Yuhyeol. You and Jin Hong never escaped. You will forever be trapped in here. Hahaha!"
But confuses him the most is that, he could recall that he heard the name Lee Jin Hong in his nightmare before. He tried investigating about the last victim but he couldn't find anything that is significant to the case. He doesn't know why he heard his name in his dream.
"Senior, you alright?" Devius snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Huh?"
"I'm asking you if you ever considered the possibility that the culprit has known you or us before. Or if he is Red, himself?"
"There's a possibility that he is the culprit himself but the thing is, we don't know who this Red is." Cameron responded.
"And his name is weird too. Who the hell would name their child Red?" Officer Chad laughed making the latter shook his head.
"You're laughing at other people's name. What does your name mean?" Detective Lee challenged him.
Officer Chad proudly faced him. "Why? Devius Wayne Chad sounds really good." He smiled proudly.
"When I first heard your name, I thought it was devil's child. You're names funny too, you know? But it suits you because it sounded exactly like you, devil's child." Cameron teased but instead of getting annoyed, Officer Chad smiled.
"It's a miracle, I didn't know that you know how to joke." Officer Chad snickered.
"Tss. There's a lot of things about me that you still don't know, Chad."
"Yeah, yeah."
After their talk, Officer Chad went to bed before Detective Lee. Cameron couldn't sleep even if he's been lying in bed for an hour. He was still bothered by the bad dream he had last night. He wants to think it's just a dream but it's too clear for a dream. It is his memory of that place that made him never want to go back. He closed his eyes but he felt his phone vibrating beside his pillow. He opened his eyes and answered it without looking at the caller's number.
"Hello?" He picked up.
He heard a chuckle from the other line. That's when he turned the phone to his face and a familiar number was flashed on the screen. It was Red.
"Good evening, detective." The caller greeted.
"It's you...Red." A chuckle was heard after Cameron said his name.
"Yes, it's me. I've seen you've called me several times, you might need something from me." Red is obviously using some kind of tool to make his voice sound really deep.
"Why don't you show your face to me? I want to meet you." He straightforwardly proposed.
"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Don't be in too much of a hurry, Detective. We will meet when the right time comes. For now, you will focus on investigating and finding the culprit. But always remember what I told you before, he was never on the run. The only reason why you couldn't catch him was because you're busy chasing no one." He said in long litany on the other line.
"Do you know who the culprit is? Or was it you?" Detective Lee sat up as he asked the question.
Red laughed in his deep voice again. "Oh. I do know the culprit but I can't tell you who he is. Oh! But you know him, Detective, you know him." Then the line was cut again.
"Hello? Hello? Red." Detective Lee couldn't do anything but sigh.
He still wanted to ask a lot of questions but he knew that no matter how many times he called, he would not be answered. The only choice he has is just wait for Red to call again. What's important is that, now he knew Red knows who the culprit behind the murders.
Cameron placed the phone back to where he took it earlier. He took a deep breath and stood up. Although he had found one answer, another question was formed in his mind because of Red's sentence.
"Oh. I do know the culprit but I can't tell you who he is. Oh! But you know him, Detective, you know him."
Those words from Red made him even more confused and unable to sleep. So he just opened the window and smelled the fresh air. Even if the front of the apartment building was a highway, behind was a forest so there's still some fresh air he could enjoy at night.
