《Call Of Death》Chapter 28 : Jealous?

Daena can't help smiling as she stared at her brother's crumpled face. It's the first time she saw her brother reacting like this. Devius' face was so crumpled that his two eyebrows almost became one. Even his lips could be used as a hanger because of how pouty it looks. His hands are both under his chin and he just kept sighing. His mind is full of questions as he kept thinking about his reaction earlier. He felt annoyed because of how annoyed he felt earlier just because Seuk Tae, a kid, kept clinging into his partner.
"Vius, did anything happen? Did you get dumped by your girlfriend? Or did the girl you're courting turned you down?" Daena couldn't take it anymore so she break the silence and asked.
Officer Chad looked at his sister with confusion due to the sudden question. "What? What did you asked?" He also questioned.
"I'm asking you if you were dumped or if the girl you are courting turned you down." She repeated.
Devius gave his sister a confused look. "I am not courting anyone and I don't have a girlfriend, princess." He answered.
"Oh."
"Why did you asked anyway?"
Daena smiled and in a teasing tone she said, "Because you looked like a jealous boyfriend-wait, no- you're acting like a jealous girlfriend, being all pouty since you came here." She straightforwardly responded.
Devius' eyes widen with both shock and annoyance. He was surprised by his sister's words and annoyance because he didn't know that he looked so damn obvious.
'Was I jealous? To a kid? No way!'
"So?"
"Well, I'm just in a bit of a bad mood but I'm not jealous at all! Who's jealous? Why would I be jealous?" He raised his right eyebrow, looking so defensive.
His reaction only made Daena believed that he really is jealous. "Vius, who's this girl? I wanted to meet her. Wow, this is miracle." She teased even more.
"Princess, there is no girl, okay? I'm not jealous or any sort of thing. I'm just too used up from work, that's why I looked like this." Devius reasoned but there's no way Daena would believe that.

"Alright, alright. If you say so, brother. I won't force you if you're not ready to introduce her yet." She smiled, still teasing.
Devius sighed, looking at his sister with an 'I gave up' look. "My Little princess, let's just eat and then I'll bring you home. It's not safe for you to be outside at night especially because the culprit is still on the run." He told his sister.
That's when Daena's expression changed from teasing to sad. Of course, she remembered her friend and classmate. Despite being a happy and cheerful girl, she still felt sad because it's her friend who had been killed and the murderer was still out there. She also felt a bit scared because she saw the body of Miranda Jameswood covered in blood.
She reluctantly looked at Officer Chad. "Vius, will you be able to catch the person who killed Mira?" She asked.
"We're investigating about it now and we'll surely get him no matter what." Devius stated in assurance.
"I'm just worried that he might come to any of us. I'm just afraid that someone might get hurt again. I don't want to see any blood again, Vius." Daena held her hands tightly.
Officer Chad felt sad seeing his beloved sister scared. He knows she is a tough person but she's still a girl. He wanted to protect him from everything especially from danger. And he'll only be able to do that if he catches the culprit and bring him behind bars.
"Daena, princess, don't worry, I will always protect you." He assured her with a warm smile.
Daena smiled too. "I know you will, that's why I'm more worried. But, just in any case, please don't catch a bullet for me, Vius. Never catch a bullet for me because if something happens to you because you saved me, it'll be more than death for me." She pleaded.
"Don't worry too much, princess. Brother will be very careful. Also, I will kill anyone who even dare to aim a gun at you, they won't be able to even shot it." Officer Chad joked but also being serious.

When they finished eating, Devius took his sister for a walk first before taking her home. There are some bodyguards he hired to look after his sister just in case. When they finally get to the door, Daena smiled and turned to her brother.
"Vius, thank you very much for tonight. I don't know when will I see you again that's why I'm happy that we spent some time together." She sincerely said.
Devius caress his sister's hair gently as he looked at her smiling. "I've been so busy with this case and I also don't want you to get involved that's why we can't spend much time for now but don't worry, as soon as it's solved, I'll take you to any mall you wanted to shop."
"Hayst! You don't need to do that, brother. Just promise me that you'll be safe always, that's all fine for me." She hugged Devius tightly. "But taking me to the mall is cool too." She jokingly added.
He hugged her back and chuckled. "I love you, my princess." She said.
"I love you too, Vius." She whispered.
After assuring that Daena is fine and safe inside the house, Officer Chad took a taxi back to the apartment. He sighed as he lean on the seat, thinking about his sister. He wanted her to always be happy and cheerful as she was but after she saw Miranda Jameswood's corpse, he knows it'll be hard to forget it. When he reached to his destination, he payed the driver and got off.
He looked up at the direction of Detective Lee's apartment but because the folds are down, he couldn't tell is the light was on or if it's off. He turned to look at the convenience store where he first met Michael, he felt guilty again for not being able to protect the kid from danger even if he just live next door to them. After spending some time outside, he walked towards the building into the apartment.
The light were still off when he opened the door of Cameron's apartment. He furrowed his brows as he reached to the light switch. Detective Lee wasn't home yet and Devius felt annoyed again. He took his phone out and started dialing his partner's number unconsciously.
He even felt startled when the latter picked up the line. "Hey! Why are you calling me?"
"Huh? Uh-" He stood there and couldn't think of anything to say.
"Devius Wayne Chad? Why are you calling me?" He sounded a bit worried and annoyed.
Devius scratched the back of his neck and bit his nail out of nervousness. He kind of felt annoyed again because he doesn't know the reason why he's nervous. If he could punch himself for even calling Detective Lee, he probably would.
"Well, uh- I dialed the wrong number, sorry." He lied.
"Huh?"
"Yeah."
"Alright. I'm ending the call, then." Cameron said on the other line.
"Wait!" Devius said.
"What?"
"I wanted to ask if what time will you be home?" He said.
"I'm on my way now, why?" Cameron asked.
"Nothing. Just kind of worried because I didn't see you when I get here. I thought you're just gonna take that kid home and go back too but I guess you spend time with him and I-uh-"
"Huh?" Detective Lee sounded confused.
"Well, don't think that I'm a jealous girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever." After saying that, he ended the call in embarrassment.
Devius didn't know why he said that and all he wanted to do was wish that his senior didn't hear what he said. He wasn't thinking properly when he said those words. On the car, Cameron almost hit the break when he heard what Devius said on the other line. He was just about to ask what he meant but the call already ended.

Heroes who would destroy the universe if it meant a shot at advancement.
