Neville isn't really complaining if this does happen though. In fact he'll actually welcome it. This was all he's ever wanted to be honest. Neville loved you with all his heart since day one, ever since you stood up for him against Snape when he was chewing him out for making a simple mistake of adding Lavender in a potion instead of Gillyweed, he saw you as a brave fierce person who wasn't afraid to stand up for what was right. Neville did have his own insecurities to battle with as well, jerks like Malfoy and his gang of Slytherins weren't really helping matters and making things better. Everytime Neville was around you Malfoy would show up out of the blue and humiliate him in front of you which makes poor Neville embarrassed to even show you his face

Neville wanted to be the one protecting you in life. After what happened with his parents against the death Eaters he couldn't afford to lose another loved one in his life, so he had to make sure you were safe. Especially in Hogwarts where wild creatures like giant spiders and Dementors ran amok. However Neville hates himself for not being able to prove his worth to you, he feels like a freaking failure everytime. He knows he's undeserving of your love and attention, your affection for him was a far concept to be touched another time

The point is, Neville needed some advice on how to tackle the situation at hand regarding you. A beautiful kind fierce person as you would never go for someone so weak willed and cowardly like him, he really needed some tips on at least how to get closer to you so he can pursue a romantic relationship with you later. And who better to ask than his best friend, Luna Lovegood herself. She was busy reading her Quibbler magazine, there was a rather fascinating article on the discovery of Nargles and she glanced up from her magazine through her glasses to see Neville staring at you while you were having your breakfast of cereal and reading a book, seated at the other end of the table. "Neville is there something you'd like to confess to someone?" drawled off Luna in her sing song melodious voice of hers

"Huh? What do you mean?" he asked her confusedly, pretending to play confused but she just smiled and told him about how conspicuous and obvious he looked when you were around him and that made him become all red and flustered. Meanwhile you were talking with one of your friends and your eye caught Neville's for a moment as the two of you stared at each other for a moment till he looked away with a red face like he was sick or something and Luna whispered something to him which did make you feel a bit jealous. You've always liked Neville, he was so caring, shy and he was a literal cinnamon roll. He always helped you despite never asking him for any help and the two of you had a special bond with each other

You didn't know why you felt a bit hurt when you saw him with Luna, you started feeling conflicted and confused. Why were you feeling like this? You wanted Neville to spend time with you as much as you wanted to spend time with him. So you decided to head up to Neville and invite him to go to Hogsmeade with you on the weekend and when he heard you he was almost convinced you were pulling some kind of prank on him or something. Why else would a perfect angel like you ask someone like him to hang out with you? However when you assured him you really wanted to hang out with him his heart almost leaped out of excitement from his chest. He felt honored and thrilled he got this wonderful opportunity to spend time with you. Now he was convinced you were starting to like him back too

After you left he turned to Luna for help and she told him he'd be fine and that he just needed to be himself. "But... what if they don't like me for myself? I know for sure I'll mess up. But I don't want to and... and seeing them with other people just.... hurts and I don't know why but I don't want them spending time with other people. I know it's selfish of me to want this... but- but I want them to be with me..." said Neville as Luna replied "Well, I know you won't mess this up. You're great the way you are and I'm sure Y/N will like you even more if you be yourself" as she told him about some dude who faked his whole personality to get you to go out with him but you discovered his lie almost instantly and refused to even spare a second glance at him. When he tried pestering you even more and finally got under your nerves, you hexed him and as much as Neville admired the way you stood up for yourself, he frowned as his expression shifted to concern. You were being harassed by this random git and you didn't tell him? Did you not trust him anymore? That HAD to be why you didn't confide this in him. But don't worry, he'll deal with that pest later, right now his mind was running amok with hundred different scenarios of how your day with him would go

It was finally the day you guys would go to Hogsmeade and Neville was about to combust with excitement. He couldn't wait to meet you there and spend time with you, alone without anyone interfering. He didn't even bother reacting when Malfoy and his goons decided to pick on him for their amusement. Then when Crabbe said he heard Neville and you were going on a little date at Hogsmeade, Malfoy sneered "Who would want to go out with a spineless bloke like you, someone who can't even stand up for himself. You wouldn't be able to take care of Y/N, I on the other hand am much more suitable for them. I might just let you tag along when I ask them out on a date, to see your pathetic moping expression and for the image where I kiss them on their soft rosy lips burn in your brain-" he started but couldn't complete his sentence because Neville used a silencing charm on him and glared at him with such a deadly calm look that even Malfoy got a bit nervous

Neville didn't mind it too much when someone else talked nonsense about him, he was used to that sort of stuff but when it came to you, he was very defensive of your honor and name. He didn't want anyone tainting your prestigious reputation and hearing some arrogant jerk like Malfoy going on the date and having the gall and audacity to brag about kissing you in front of him and talking about you in such an insulting manner made Neville see red. It was quite rare when he'd get like this but when he does, it's for the right reasons. All I can say is, may the gods above have mercy on whoever makes the oh so wonderful and brilliant idea of standing against him. Malfoy was about to reach for his wand but Neville was quicker as he hexed him and the rest of his friends. "If you ever speak about Y/N like that again I won't be as merciful as I am now" he said as he gritted his teeth with rage. Then he saw you waiting for him at the courtyard as he hurried to meet you

His heart beat madly against his chest when he saw your face beam up as soon as he arrived. "You actually came, thank you" you smiled as he replied "Of course I would. I'm sorry for being late... I forgot to do some stuff... also what do you mean by 'I actually came?' " he asked you as you told him that some people ditched you when you wanted to hang out with them which just made him mad. Why in the world would someone ditch you? You were so kind and selfless, you had a noble heart and you were as tough as steel and as gentle as a lotus. Some people were just too stupid and blind to appreciate your good qualities but that was all right, Neville had you all for himself now

The two of you headed to the Three Broomsticks for a couple of drinks and then went to Honeydukes where Neville bought you your favorite sweets. When you thanked him for it, he told you it was no problem. It was snowing as well and the two of you had a fun time playing in the snow and having a snow ball fight. Only Neville didn't want to hurt you with snowballs so he kept getting hit in the face with snowballs till you felt bad and decided to make snowmen instead. You suddenly sneezed and that's when Neville decided that it was time for you guys to get going back. But not before he asked you out and when you agreed, he was elated as the two of you shared a passionate and sensual kiss

It's been a few months now since you've been dating him and everytime he talked with Luna you'd randomly show up and cling to his arm like a koala and at first Neville was confused and that's when it dawned upon him: You were feeling jealous and he felt bad and horrible about himself for not clarifying things for you. He loved only you and no one else, there was only place for one person in his heart and mind that lucky special person was YOU. So he decided to have a word with you about the whole thing because communication is key. He doesn't want your relationship with him getting ruined because of a simple misunderstanding so when he asked you what was wrong you directly told him how you felt about him and Luna and when you told him that you were worried he'd leave you, he felt his heart breaking

He was quick to reassure you by grabbing your hands in his and promising that he'd never leave you as he kissed them softly and strangely, in a way, he kind of felt happy that you felt like that about him even though he knows it's wrong but he's glad that you won't leave him now. The rest of the day was spent in Neville cheering you up with his soft kisses to your cheeks and palms as the two of you spent more quality time with each other. You've learnt to grow out of being jealous of Luna but Neville was still as clingy to you since day one. After all, you were the love of his life and he couldn't afford to lose you
