《My famous boss (gxg)》Chapter 68

After spending two days with Chris he had to unfortunately leave for New York first thing in the morning. It turns out Selena said it was some sort of an emergency. I understood and hugged him goodbye this morning at the airport. Currently I am responding to an email of our ambassadors.

"Lena do you have a minute?" Nathan peaks through the door with a phone pressed to his chest.

"Yeah, sure. Whats up?" I ask diverting my gaze towards the door.

"Edward Sullen is on the phone." he says timidly.

"The guy I talked to the other day?" I ask.

"Yes. He wants to chat with you."

"Give me the phone." I say and he walks to me and hands me the phone.

"You can go now." I say

"Oh right."

As soon as he closes the door I press my ear to the phone.

"Lena speaking." I say

"Oh there you are. I was hoping I could have a chat with you." He says

"It better be business Edward I have a shit ton of work to do."

"Always the charmer I see." He says teasing me. I sigh in annoyance

"Fine, I'll get to the point. I wanted to ask you a favour." He says

"What kind?" I ask

"Tiny for you, very meaningful to me." He says

"How about you say it and I say yes or no?" I suggest

"Can you give me information on one man? If he's someone who works for you or if they are just in the game?" He says

"Sure."

"I already sent the details onto your email." He says

"Let me just open it." I say

"You know Lena you seem to be a lot different than your father." He says

"That seems to be a bad thing. Hearing from your tone." I say as I scroll through.

"Oh on the contrary I love it when women have a little fire in them. It makes them powerful." He says

"Stop hitting on me." I say as I read through the details.

"Who said I was hitting on you?"

"It seemed like it to me."

"Well you could say I was. Only, only if you want me to." He says.

"No, I don't." I say

"Okay then. I respect that."

"Alright the man you're interested in works in a firm thats known for online trading. He has a storage unit in the south and I've met him a few times. Nice, but very full of himself." I say

"Thank you Lena. You're a gem. Are you free tonight?" He asks

"I just said I don't want to be hit on by you." I deadpan.

"I know. I got that. I just wanted to buy you dinner after you just saved my ass." He says and I laugh.

"When do you get off work?" He asks

"Around 6pm."

"I'll be in the restaurant at 6:15. Join me if you want." He says and ends the call

I open my phone to see a random number with an address of a restaurant nearby. Mafia huh? You don't seem like it Edward Sullen.

Just like on cue Nathan walks in with a folder in his hand.

"What did he want?" He asks

"Just some insight, nothing more. What do you have over there?" I say

"A contract you haven't signed yet. I don't know how we missed this one." He says and hands me the paper. I sign at the bottom and hand it to him.

"I also got a call from one of my old friends. Says Henry works there now."

"Good for him."

"He knows a lot about you Lena. You should maybe reach out."

"And seem desperate? Absolutely not!" I say and turn my computer.

"He could reveal a lot of secrets." He says

"I'm not scared."

"I know you're not. I just, I don't want something bad happening to you."

"I know Nate."

The day dragged on and I didn't do besides painful paperwork. As I was walking out a man was standing next to my car.

"May I help you sir?" I ask as I try to get into my car.

"I was sent by Mr Sullen. He said I needed to drive you to some place." He says

"What if I don't want to go?" I ask him.

"I'd need to call Mr Sullen. I can't go back with no explanation."

"Dinner huh?"

"Just dinner miss."

"Fine. He better be ready to splash out. I'm starving." I say and he chuckles. He opens the door to the car next to mine. All black, tinted windows.

"Are you his driver?" I ask as we drive there.

"Yeah. I'm the family driver in fact." He says

"Oh, okay." I scroll through messages and let Richard know I'm not coming home any time soon. I know he waits for me sometimes.

"We're here miss." He say and parks the car. I get out of the car and look at the five star restaurant staring right at me.

"Fancy." I mutter.

Thank god I wore something more sophisticated. The pantsuit I'm wearing goes with the whole mood of it.

We walk inside and his driver escorts me to a private room inside. I walk up to the table and see Edward there, looking through the menu.

"Look who bothered to show up. Ms Adams." He says standing up.

"And look who sent his driver to get me." I say

"I had to, I knew you'd say yes."

"You're just lucky I'm starving." I say and he laughs. The driver leaves and I sit down. Edward pushes my chair in and I take the menu into my own hands.

"How was today?" he asks

"At work? Tiring. Just piles on piles of paperwork." I say

"Thats what you get when you want to be the boss." He says and I nod.

"If I'm the boss then what are you? the secretary?"

"Ha ha, you're hilarious Ms Adams how could anyone be as humorous as you." he says flatly, sarcasm oozing.

"If you wanted me to come here and talk about how great you are then I could just leave. You're not getting that."

"Oh really? You know, you're the first female who considered saying no to me. They're mostly to charmed or scared."

"I guess I'm a great judge of character."

"Either that or you have a death wish."

"Oh why's that?" I ask

"You've probably heard of my last name."

"In fact, just recently." I say

"From who? I'm guessing your uncle?" He asks

"Good guess." I say.

"What did your little uncle say about my name? How we're dangerous? Not to be messed around with?" He asks

"I don't think that's the subject of this dinner Edward."

"You are correct. I called you to thank you. I could have gotten in trouble with my father. You see I'm his advisor. I am younger than he is and I know how everything goes. I was given a list of people to check and the man I asked you about just turned out to be the only one on the list I haven't checked." He says

"Oh, okay." I say shrugging my shoulders. The waiter comes around and we order our food and drinks.

"Whats your story Ms Adams? How did you end up where you are?" He asks.

"If you show me yours I'll show you mine." I tease.

"Fair enough. I'm the child of the Sullen family. The youngest out of six. I went to private schools all my life. You can guess why. I wanted to be a doctor, but my father despised the idea so I stayed in his company and line of work ever since I finished university. I've been working under him for the last 10 years. Your turn." He says

"Simar to yours I went to private schools all my life. I never really wanted to, I was obliged to considering my fathers very well-known name. I finished school to be a writer and a news reporter. I always loved that job. It made me the happiest I ever was. Then the accident happened and all hell broke loose. I was given the company and it stirred a few fires on it's own. I didn't want to do all the work so I appointed my uncle and the rest of the employees, along side with my friends to keep it going. I couldn't stay in the UK. So I moved to New York. I worked in the New York Times. While I still managed everything. Then the project for Palestine got renewed and I showed my face for the first time since I was two years old. Now I do just this." I say

"Wow. Why would you do any job like that when you have a whole ass company in your hands?" he asks

"I guess I wanted to be normal for once. My father let that happen when he told everyone my first name was Agnes."

"What is it then?"

"It's my middle name. Lena Agnes Adams." I say

"Damn thats smart. My father went ahead and told my name to everyone possible." He says disappointed.

"That sucks."

"Being born into this family is a real curse." He says as the food arrives.

"How come?" I ask

"I have a name that doesn't allow for me to have friends." He says

"I have a name too. But, that doesn't stop anyone from coming into my life." I say

"Your father wasn't a well-known criminal Lena. He was a great man." He says

"My father was no saint either Edward. You don't have to depend on your fathers image."

"Easy for you to say. Your parents built half of London. Mine robbed and scammed the more they could." he says

It seems that Edward is nothing like his father. Hm that reminds me of someone.

"How is your dating life going? If you have one at least." He teases

"It's going great, I'm actually happy." I say with a smile. Remembering Scarlett.

"Whoever he is, he's a lucky fella." He says

"She, it's a she." I correct.

"Ooh, well then she is very lucky." He says smiling at me.

"I'm the lucky one. She's the only one brave enough to put up with my bullshit." I say.

"That's love Lena."

"Yeah."

The two of us eat and talk a bit more, until I get a call from none other than Scarlett.

"I should get this." I say and get up

"Hey" I answer

"Hi, I've been meaning to call you but I just got home from set." She says out of breath.

"How about you and take a shower. I'll call you when I get home and we can turn on FaceTime and just talk in our pj's?" I

"You're not home? Where are you then?"

"I'm at a dinner with a friend." I say

"Sorry for interrupting you. I didn't know." She says

"Hey hey, no worries darling. I'll head home soon anyway." I reassure her.

"Okay, I'll take your advice. I need a hot shower." She says

"I miss the living hell out of you." I say

"Someone's upset they can't join me in the shower."

"No, it's just-

"Admit it babe, you want to be here."

"With you? Anywhere." I say

"I miss you too. I hope you get home safe." She says

"Thank you darling, I'll tell you all about the dinner I just had."

"Can't wait to hear it. I gotta go. Take care." she says

"You too." and she hangs up.

I sit down with a faint smile on my face.

"Lovergirl huh?" He says smiling at me."

"Yeah." I say

"Check please." He says waving to the waiter.

"I had a great time." He says as he gives the man his card.

"I did too." I say.

"We should do this again sometime." He says as we get up to leave.

"Yeah. I think we should." I say and he smiles at that.

"So tell me about your girl. What's she like?"

"She's physically shorter than me which makes her just the cutest being ever. She's smart and she is very ambitious. I don't think I've met anyone even close to what she is."

"That is so sweet and just wonderful to hear."

His driver arrives and the two of us get inside the back.

"Tell me more about her."

"She's funny, she has a unique sense of humour. She is in the US at the moment. We met while I was working in New York. She saved me from my own downfall."

"She came when you exposed yourself to the world?" He asks

"Yeah, how do you know" I ask

"I was there when it happened. The anniversary I mean. I showed up to pay respects and then you showed up." He says looking through the window.

"I didn't know that."

"Lena, I just want to tell you I don't plan on using you. My father is a complex man. I know what he's capable of, but I also know how much this one dinner meant to me. I'm not used to having a friendly dinner. I'm used to having threatening dinners." He says

"If I was afraid of you. I wouldn't even come to dinner with you. I..my family had a history with some sort of mafia, I learned about it when they showed up to my house asking for the debt go be payed." I say

"Whoa whoa whoa someone came to your house?" He asks

"Yeah one of my fathers friends. He's involved into criminal business I guess." I say

"If something like that happens again, call me right away. Here." He says and gives me his card.

"This is my office phone and this is my private phone. Call wherever and I'll be there in a matter of minutes." He says

"Thank you. Why are you doing this?"

"You were the first person who told me they weren't afraid of me. You can't even fathom how much that meant to me." He says and looks down.

"I'm glad I came then." I say and get out of the car and walk to mine.

"Stay safe Lena!" He says through the car window.

"You too." At that he laughs.

Thats not what I was expecting. Although I myself don't know what was going to happen. He's a good guy. Which is kinda ironic because his father is the leader or whatever, of the biggest mafia in the UK. He was also respectful. Which surprised me more than once.

I got back home and called Scarlett over FaceTime while I was taking off my makeup.

"Hello there." She says smiling.

"You refreshed?" I ask her.

"Very. I might start doing this more often. It really helped me." She says laying down and moving her laptop so I see her nicely.

"How was your dinner?" she asks

"Surprisingly it went well." I say

"Why would you be surprised?"

"Because I went to dinner with one of the members of the most famous mafia in the UK. The Sullen family."

"WHAT?" she shouts.

"I went to dinner with the leader's son. He was quite nice and I had a good meal." I explain.

"Oh honey. Why do you do this to yourself?" She asks

"Do what?"

"You see good in people. In literally everyone you see. How come you just went past the fact that he' in a freaking mafia?" She asks

"Because my father wasn't a saint either. Besides, I talked with him before. He wanted to buy the foundation. Of course I said no and then he just called me for a favour. I helped him out and he called his driver to pick me up for dinner." I explain.

"And you still went with him?" She asks

"He seemed okay." I protest.

"Darling you're lucky you came back home alive and safe." She says

"How was your day?" I ask

"Compared to yours, boring." She says and I laugh.

"Oh come on! Tell me all about it." I say and so she speaks.

We talked until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. During our talk I changed, I got ready for bed and I even turned off the lights. It was just the two of us and the silence on the night. It was perfect if you ask me.

"Rose asked me about you." she says

"Oh really? What did she say?" I ask.

"She said grandma talked about you and she herself, wanted to know more about you. I guess grandma broke the news and said we were dating. I thought all hell was about to break loose, but she was calm. She wanted to know your favourite color, favourite princess and all that." She says

"I hope you got them right." I tease.

"You know I did. Anyway she wants to spend time with you when you come here. Which is soon right?" She asks with a hint of uncertainty.

"Yes, very soon in fact." I add and her smile grows.

"Perfect. You seem tired, I think we should go." She says

"I am tired but I don't want to go." I say.

"Then stay. I'll end the call when you fall asleep." She says

"Alright." I say and lay down. I put the laptop onto the pillow next to me.

"Goodnight Lena."

"Goodnight Scar" I say

"Sweet dreams."
