Edify (verb): to improve someone morally

He’d never realized how it felt to be a ghost: unseen, unremembered, an insignificant veil of existence that people simply passed through—the very people that once smiled and laughed with him.

And he was very much alive. Healthy flesh and living soul, as whole and functioning as any human being.

Well, he could guess how that happened. Asking for money from his friends and family for his college fund, donation efforts, holidays—and spending it all to the negatives in a casino with beautiful ladies and loud music. Yeah, probably that.

There was an inkling of guilt. A small, hidden crevice in his endlessly spinning and alcohol-dazzled mind, that it was his fault and he should apologize.

But the rest of him believed in redemption arcs. His father had always said that mistakes were alright, as long as he never commits them again. Sure, he’d already gambled away his life for more times than karma herself could count, but those were just new mistakes, and he had faith in himself to fix it. One day, he’d stop hungering after impossible money and all of his mistakes would be fixed!

Only, being a ghost made him turn back to that little crevice.
