Nihilism (noun): a total rejection of established laws

Skipping down the streets of New York City was a curly-haired man, arm looped around a basket of wildflowers that he rained down on the sidewalk as he sang and danced. He moved in no particular direction and smiled at no particular person.

His prancing footsteps halted in front of an ice cream truck.

Grinning from ear to ear, the man reached into his pockets and pulled out a thick wad of cash. With a slender finger pointing at the menu, he dropped the green bills in front of the bewildered truck owner.

He pointed at… mint chocolate ice cream?

The truck owner had no idea what to do. Hands moving with more instinct than conscious thought, he scooped out a cone and went to the window—

There was no one in sight.

Further down the street, was the curly-haired man, still skipping with the sunshine jubilance of a five-year-old as he continued throwing flowers in a petal-dotted trail. His other arm clutched the entire ice cream truck menu.

Suddenly, he came upon a flight of stairs. Eyes widening, mouth gaping, the man whooped and flung the wooden board of the menu onto the railings. He mounted his makeshift skateboard with surprising agility and soared downward, his basket of flowers abandoned with a flying toss through the air.

He didn’t see the bumps on the railing. As soon as he slid over the first bump, he was sent catapulting into the concrete ground.

Stunned. He laid motionlessly for several heartbeats. Then leapt up, smiling with enough energy to rival the sun.
