《What the Green Bird Sees》Amorphous

Amorphous (adjective): shapeless; formless, vague

The sunlight looked lovely, its glowing ribbons glinting off the undisturbed surface of the pond and casting a truthful reflection of the world around. Satisfied, the little green bird leaned further over the edge, until–

Splash!

It fell into the water. The calm pond erupted with thrashing, flailing, struggling, the earlier peace shattered as the small green bird fought for life.

Then it stopped: the water was nowhere near deep.

Looking like a miserable wad of soggy green paper, the tiny bird’s head buried into its chest in embarrassment. Its cheeks swelled with warmth, further heated by the sun. However, the cool pond water lapping at its lower body felt surprisingly relaxing and comforting, as if gently pulling it downwards.

For a few seconds, the little green bird let itself sink deeper, until the water barely submerged its nose. Returning to a tranquil state, the pond also stilled into a perfect mirror.

Its body seemingly dissipated. Like an ice cube melting away on a summer day, the little bird felt as if it lost its shape, becoming a single entity with the water. Sudden memories flooded its mind; countless days of witnessing stories, beautiful recollections of telling tales, melancholic and chilly.

Until a wind drifted by, caressing the bird’s soaked feathers.
