Solandis (noun): a delicate flower

The horde of short gentlemen in suits eagerly hopped with their stubby little legs, arms flapping behind them as if somehow propelling their round bodies towards their goal, which fluttered less than a foot in front of them.

They were a group of penguins chasing a butterfly.

In the fleeting heartbeats of summer, the frozen earth in the arctic region defrosted just enough so that small bits of grass and wildflowers could blanket the ground. A new guest with intricate wings of powdery pink had floated peacefully across the air… until it accidentally enchanted a colony of penguins.

Left and right and up and down, the little butterfly elegantly evaded its restless fans who tripped over one another as they trailed it.

Then, it landed on a yellow dandelion.

The whole pursuit stopped dead in its tracks as the butterfly’s pastel pink wings gently folded and extended with the soft overhead breeze, its legs resting in the cheerful petals.

As rowdy as they were just a moment ago, no sound came from the penguin colony. Their white bellies and black coats squishing with each step, they waddled carefully into a circle around the silky insect and its graceful perch, and quietly admired their magic.
