《Married By Chance》Chapter 60: Fellow Graduates

So the sweetest thing happened. Adam came back early because of me but Nicole and Camilla are hosting a joint dinner for everyone and since our graduation is in the morning, we're all spending the night at Nicole's house because we want to to get ready together and take photos early on.

The dinner has been so good so far. It's a white dinner so we're all wearing white and it's just a couple of close friends then Natasha, Jada, and Casey, nothing crazy.

The past few days have been hectic as hell but I know it's all going to be worth it tomorrow. I'm so excited to walk along side my best friends in the whole world. I'm also nervous to do the speech I finally agreed to give.

I have conquered my university and I might as well leave with some great personal words. Well not really personal. The Governor is going to be there and also a lot of important people. We have a Swedish prince that's graduating with us and he's family is going to be there and technically majority of the parents and attendees are all super prestigious individuals.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts by the clinking of champagne glass. I turn my attention to Nicole who's standing gorgeously in her own short white dress.

She clears her throat and starts talking, "I just want to say a big thank you to all of you for being here. You guys are my favorite people in the world and I can't tell you how happy I am to graduate with you guys. Going to school has given us a reason to see each other every day and now that we're leaving, I truly hope that doesn't change. I love you all."

"Awwn, love you Nicole." I say, wiping fake tears from the corners of my eyes.

Everyone else cheered on her and told her they loved her. Camilla is asked to speak next and suddenly it's decided that everyone should say something.

My turn comes and I do a hair flip and stand. "This is going to be short cause I gotta some for tomorrow." I start. "First of all, I want to thank these three beautiful girls for being here and doing an incredible job for the shows. Secondly, I don't think words can explain how happy I am to have all of you as my fellow graduates. We've been through it all together so I would like to raise a glass to that and the years to come."

The night ended beautifully.

****

I've finished my speech and all my friends have collected their certificates. I was handed a paper that said 'see you next semester'.

We all laughed at the subtle shade the university threw at us as the expected graduates.

Adam hugs me tight and kisses my ear. "Congratulations, love."

"I'm not really graduating, you know."

He gently strokes my hair and pulls me close for a short kiss. "I do but I'm still proud of you, baby."

My younger brother decides to interrupt our moment. "Can you make out later?"

"Honey, let's take a picture." My dad states from the side.

"Okay."

"Where's the damned photographer? I did not pay this guy to wonder off."

Austin rolls his eyes at him. "Calm down, dad."

"He's over there taking photos of Elle and my brother." Adam points with head so I give him a pleading look. "Can you take with your phone please?"

He looks at me with warm eyes. "Of course."

My dad wraps his arm around me and shakes his head. "No, I want the photographs printed."

"Adam can email it to the guy, dad. Honestly, chill." Austin says.

"I can't chill. My first child has graduated from college. I sent your speech to your grandfather, honey. He was really proud." He kisses my head. "Don't forget to send the rest of it to me, son." He tells Austin then looks at the phone Adam's been patiently been holding.

After taking a few shots, he hands the phone to me. My dad looks at the photos with.

"These look perfect, son." He comments and Adam just nods at him.

"Sweetie, did you take pictures with Liam?" My mum asks as she joins us.

"No."

"Well, come on."

****

"You look so fucking beautiful." Adam tells me when it's just us.

"Thank you. You look so hot. It's annoying cause all the girls keep checking you out."

He grips my waist and rubs my nose with his. "Let's get you home. I missed you so I'm done sharing you with everyone."

"Okay. I'm actually tired. My graduation turned into a whole photoshoot. It's like I'm at work." I pout and he kisses it. "Go say goodbye to your friends. I will tell Wesley to pull up the car."

I'm see Nicole, Emily, Jasmine and Chloe standing together. I can't believe it. Our freshmen year wasn't long ago but here we are today.

"I'm so proud of us guys! Only one pregnancy, one failed engagement, and one abduction. Not too bad for four years." Nicole says, hugging me by the side.

"Funny how you didn't to mention your fake wedding charade." I tell her.

"That's neither here nor there."

"I can't believe there's a human in me. Isn't that crazy?" Emily smile.

"I always thought Jas will the first to get pregnant." Chloes says and Jas looks at her. "Why? Cause I'm black?"

"What? No! That's not what I mean I swear. You've just always loved babies."

"Chill. I'm just messing with you."

"I gotta go, guys. Adam's waiting."

"You're not coming to the after party?" Nicole asks.

"What after party?

"The after party!" They all exclaim.

"What after party?" I repeat. I have no idea what they're talking about. I haven't checked my messages or gone online in hours.

"At Aaron's house. You can't miss that and it's my last night here." Chloe explains.

"But-"

"Pleaseeee. Even Emily is attending and she's pregnant." Nicole says.

"Fine." I give in. What can I say? I've been a people pleaser my whole life, especially when it comes to my friends.

"Yayy!"

I walk back to Adam and he smiles when he sees me. "Ready to go?"

"Um..."

His smile drops."What is it?" He asks so I explain the situation to him.

"Are you sure you need to attend this party? You said you were tired."

"I'll be fine. I will feel worse if I miss out on anything."

He stares at me with hard eyes as if he's analyzing me then gives in. "Okay."

"I know you wanted us to have dinner. I'm sorry." I tell him sincerely but he shakes his head. "Whatever you want."

"You're the best."

"Do you want me to send over a change of clothes?

"Okay. if you're trying to make me feel like shit, it's working."

"Answer the question."

"I do but I feel bad, Adam."

"It's just dinner. We can have it tomorrow. Don't worry about it."

"Okay."

He strokes my cheek one last time. "Cooper will stay with you. I will send Tom with your clothes and anything else you might need, text it to me."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

****

You know how sometimes you start watching a movie and it's really bad but then you keep on watching, hoping it would get better but it never does? Well, that's what happened to me.

Austin lives with his best friends in a house that's just a few minutes away from the university but the girls and I had to go back to Nicole's house to change for the party.

My hair was down for the graduation so I had it pulled in a sleek black ponytail. Cam drew a sharp cat eye on me then kept the rest of my makeup simple.

My dress is very short so I'm guessing Adam must have asked someone to pick out my clothes.

When we arrived at the party, a lot of people were there and Drake is blasting through the house.

"I wanna kiss someone tonight."

"Aren't you with Julian anymore?" Camilla asks her and I wait to here her reply because he sent flowers this morning.

"We're not exclusive." Nicole explains and Can just shrugs. "Oh okay."

My jaw drops. "What the hell does that event mean?"

Cam looks at me and chuckles. "Oh, there she goes."

"Surprise, surprise." Chloe rolls her eyes.

"What?"

"You know you should have majored in law and become a Judge." Brian adds.

"I'm not judging her! I just don't get how you could share someone you love."

"Nicole, do you love him?"

"Sometimes."

"It's a complicated relationship." Emily sighs deeply.

"There's the man."

"Guys! Why are you all sitting? Get up and dance! Party! We're free! No more waking up at 8 in the morning, quizzes! And all that shit. It's overrr!!" He screams excitedly then walks away.

Brian looks around at each of us. "When the hell did this group become boring?"

"We are not boring!"

"Come on, guys. I did not leave Adam to come sit at a party. Let's go turn it up."

"I'm so tired." Emily groans.

"Let's go, Mills." Brian puts his arm around my shoulder and we walk to the fun side of the party.

"So did you tell Emily?"

"What?"

"You know." He says with a raised eyebrow then it clicked. He's talking about Emily's dad and his mum's affair.

"No! I pushed it to the back of my mind."

"Well, they're divorced now so it's fine."

"Who's divorced?"

"The Parkers."

"What?"

"Oh, she didn't tell you?"

I look over at Emily who is laughing at something Nicole said then I think about the last couple of days where we spent a lot of time together. "I don't she knows."

"Oh shit."

I feel someone's hand on my shoulder and when I turn around I see Liam whose face meets mine with a grin. "I didn't know you came." He says.

I give him a short hug. "Yeah, you too."

"You look good. Adam said he was taking you to dinner or something."

"We took a rain check but now, I'm kind of regretting because I'm really not enjoying this party."

"I know but Aaron said the real fun will start by two."

"Two AM?"

"What else can you expect at an all night party?"

A what?! Shit! I gotta call my husband. Also, I have security with me. Should I ask them to leave? Or even go home.

But I don't want to miss out on anything. I feel like when I leave something crazy will happen and I will have to hear my friends talk about it.

"Hey."

"Hi, baby. Having fun?"

"Mmhm. Adam, will it be okay if I send Cooper and the other security guy home?"

"Why?"

"Well, Aaron's house is safe. There isn't any threat here and we're pulling an all nighter. They can't just keep waiting here."

"Its their job and why did you not tell me you're not coming home?" He asks in a clipped tone.

"I am, just a little late."

"If you're having an all nighter it means you're spending the night out again."

"This is different. I will be home in a few hours. Just let the security have the night off."

"No. Security stays with you. I'm not going let you unprotected in a house filed with horny guys." He says. His voice is annoyingly calm yet authoritative. Like there's no room for argument.

"Are you telling me I can't have fun without your people looking over me?"

"Certainly not at some crazy college party."

"And to think I thought you were being understanding, but there's always a loophole with you."

"I could say the same thing. It's one thing after another with you. Next, you're going to tell me you're flying with your friend to London."

I take a deep breath, closing my eyes. My friends are very important to me, you know this."

He takes a long pause and in a soft voice, he asks, how "And I'm not?"

"What?"

"I have to go."

My phone rings and I sigh relief that he called but get disappointed when I see it's Nicole.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Check your Instagram now!"

"Uh...okay."

I open the app and check my dms and I see Nicole has shared a post in our group chat.

I open it and it's a photo that Gisele posted at my house with Adam, Damien, Chase, Gregg and an unfamiliar girl.

"Is this tonight?" I ask even though I already know the answer.

"Yeah."

I'm fuming because I'm so done with his hypocrisy. He literally has his watch dogs on me while he's at our house spending time with her and I'm tired with all the lies of omission.

I believe his feelings for me are genuine but there's something between him and Giselle whether he wants to admits it or not.

The fact that he wouldn't tell me makes me think the worse of it.

I walk back to my friends and take a sit next to Camilla. "I won't let him get away with this."

"Yes, queen!" She encourages.

"Why does it feel like you just want drama?" Liam asks her with an eye roll

"Because I do."

"I called him but he's not picking up. This is all my fault." I confess.

"Yup." Liam agrees and all my feelings turn to him. "He literally hopped on a flight and came back because he felt bad she was missing him and yet since he arrived, she's been avoiding him like a plague."

"I had things to do."

"I know. That is why the difference between you and Adam is he always puts you first."

"Don't mind him. It's like he's Mother Teresa all of a sudden. Talking like he knows what's best for everyone or how they should act. It's intensely annoying." Cam tells me.

"But he's right."

"You should try calling or texting one of Adam's friends." Emily suggests.

"Maybe we should text that man stealing hoe." Cam says with her devilish smile.

"I don't have her number."

"We can dm her. Let me have your phone." I hand it to her, chuckling.

Giselle, if you know what's good for you, kindly stay away from my husband. Stop being so pathetic and get over yourself.

"Funny but no."

She smiles at me then hit send.

"Cam! Are you insane?!" I snatch back my phone and quickly unsend the message.

"You're no fun."

About thirty minutes later, I get a call from Adam. My friends and I have just been chatting and laughing at each other's miserable stories over the years.

I take the call, wondering if he's going to ask me to come back home. I will. I miss him but he has to explain this Giselle situation.

"Amelia." He says my name.

"Hey."

"What the hell do you think you're doing?"

"Excuse me."

"I saw the message you sent Giselle. What the fuck is going on?"

My jaw drops. She saw it? And what the hell is Adam trying to do? It hurts that she's the reason he called.

"Oh, so you can make your goons surround me when I'm at a party while you go have dinner with your ex. Think again." I tell him and Cam snickers.

"I can't believe you would talk to anyone like that. Hurting someone is very unlike you. Are you now happy that you've made her devastated?"

"Of course not but she needs to learn her place."

"You're getting jealous and worried about someone that completely doesn't matter."

I roll my eyes. "Enough with the bullshit. If she didn't, you wouldn't have called."

"No, I called because you can't go around bullying people online and it matters when my wife hurts someone because of me."

"That's a lie! You're always defending her!" There's a lump in my throat, I'm about to cry but I hold it.

"That's not what I'm doing. You're the one who could have saved us all this by being here."

"So what? You're punishing me because I'm not there."

"This is ridiculous. I don't fucking have time for this." He says then hangs up.

My mood darkens the moment he hangs up. I hate arguing with him because our arguments are always big. Like I wish we would only argue about what car to take or what to have for lunch but it's always about someone else. We're both very jealous people.

Actually in his defense, when it comes to little things, Adam always let me have my way.

****

I open the front door of my house feeling like complete shit. This day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life but it sucked.

Aaron's party was fine but it wasn't great. It felt like any other party I go to with my friends which is why I should have stayed with my husband.

Damien sent me a text while I was my friends and it made me felt shittier.

Hey love! Congratulation! Sucks that you couldn't be at your own dinner😞. Hope your enjoying party. Cake looked so good so I cut it. Hope you don't mind😋

I'm a little confused.

Thank you and thanks for the flowers you sent. I loved them. What do you mean dinner celebration?

The one that Adam made for you too. Chase came and so the poor guy by himself so he invited us so it wouldn't be a waste.

So Chase was the one that asked Giselle to come and since she's always looking for an opportunity to be with Adam, she accepted the invitation.

They're all gone jow.

I look around and sigh. The house is filler with flowers. So many. Too many. There are also a lot of gift boxes. From the people I know, people I bare know and people I don't know at all. For example, my parents friends or Adam's business partners. Why would they send me flowers?

It's certainly not because they care. It's because of who I am. Amelia Smith and Amelia Black.

I hear the sound of Adam's office door opening and closing and then his footsteps.

He appears, looking as striking as he always does. He's too handsome. He's perfect.

"Hey." I say softly.

"Welcome home."

"Thanks."

There's a distance between us literally and figuratively. I'm standing in the middle of the entryway and he's standing by the stairs, emotionless.

I take a deep breath and close my eyes, "Look, I'm sorry I wasn't here tonight. You should have told me you had something planned. I wouldn't ha-"

"I don't want to talk about it." He cuts me so I frown. "You can't just decide when you want to talk."

"Yes, I can and I just did. It's late. You should also get some sleep."

"No. I'm not going anywhere until you finally tell me what Giselle holds over you."

"So you can antagonize her again? She said this wasn't the first time, that she kept quiet before because she didn't want to get between us." He speaks, calm and unflinchingly. Still not giving any kind of emotion.

"WHAT?! That's complete bullshit."

"Is it? Even when you messaged her, she defended you and tried to justify what you did. She wishes nothing but good for us. It seems like you just love using her as a tool pick up fights with me."

"Oh my God. She has manipulated you completely. Last night was the first time I ever messaged her."

"Like I said, I don't have time for this. I'm pissed as hell. I don't want to fight with you. Go to bed."

"So you believe her over me? Are you serious?"

When he doesn't deny it, I feel a stab in my heart.

"You won't talk about your relationship with her, you still hang out with her and you expect me to keep quiet? Either you talk or the problems keep getting bigger."

He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. "Do you know who was here tonight?" He asks with his voice so husky, it makes me shake a little.

"Yes. Chase, Damien, Gregg, Giselle and another girl."

"That's Kate. She's her best friend."

"Oh?"

He stares into my eyes. "You want to know what kind of relationship I had with Giselle? It was the kind where I slept with her best friend because I never actually gave a fuck about her or how she felt."

Holy fucking shit!

"I've never given a fuck about anything or anyone until you. When she found out, she came to me sobbing, her heartbroken and I felt.....nothing. That's the kind of person I am."
