《Once Upon a Time in a Foreign Land》Chapter 185 : Dongfang Zhengyi

It didn't take long for the two of them to come out of the kitchen. Yixiong carried a tray. On the tray were three plates filled with food, side dishes, and three glasses of drink. Zhengyi brought three bowls of soup with another tray.
"That looks delicious, Sir!" Jingkang's eyes widened at the dishes that Yixiong and Zhengyi brought.
"Yes! I think so too." Zhengyi laughed.
Yixiong and Zhengyi placed the dishes on the table. Yixiong's eyes twinkled.
"Are we not going to call Mr. Nangong over for a meal together?"
"Calling where?" Yixiong looked towards Jingkang.
"Isn't Mr. Nangong still at Mr. Xuande's house?" Jingkang asked.
"Oh! I forgot to tell you. Earlier, we met one of Yiren's friends. It seemed they offered Yiren a job. Since our only business was picking up bags, I thought I could take care of it myself. So I asked Yiren to go with that person."
"So Yiren didn't go to Mr. Xuande's friend's house?" Zhengyi couldn't hide the astonishment in his heart. That's a really weird thing. Actions like that did not reflect what Yiren usually did.
"He came along. He even went to the warehouse where Mr. Xuande's friend's friend's stock was stored. When we went out to eat, we met one of his friends."
"So Yiren immediately went to follow his friend?" Asked Zhengyi.
"At first he was hesitant to go. They just happened to meet there. So actually he could have gone another day. But I convinced Yiren that work matters are just as important. We've been unemployed for a long time. After all, carrying a bag isn't something heavy task. It doesn't need many people."
"Then when will Mister Nangong come home?" Jingkang asked.
"I don't know," Yixiong answered. "Neither Yiren nor his friend said anything about it."
Zhengyi nodded.
Xiongge's story is a bit hard for me to believe. But he has no reason to lie!
"All day long you have been at home. Did anything unusual happen?" Yixiong turned to Zhengyi.
Zhengyi just shook his head.
Yixiong turned to Jingkang.
"Nothing happened. Everything is normal." Jingkang's voice sounded so sure.
Zhengyi smiled. Jingkang was not a resident of the house. Also, did not live in the housing complex. Of course, he didn't know what was normal or unusual in that environment. Yet the youngster answered Yixiong's question with utmost confidence.
"That's good then. Let's start eating now." Yixiong pointed at the dishes spread out on the dining table.

The three of them started digging. Zhengyi felt the food was superb. The taste was very similar to the dishes commonly found in restaurants in Yuandong. He turned to Jingkang. The young man also seemed to agree.
"Where did you buy this food?" Jingkang stared at the dish with sparkling eyes.
Yixiong smiled. He pointed to the rice and side dishes on his plate. "Earlier I saw a restaurant that sells Yuandong food. So I stopped by the restaurant. Because we felt we had to go home quickly, we didn't eat there. Mr. Xuande also bought a pack of food like this. He said he also wanted to enjoy Yuandong's specialties."
Zhengyi hadn't tasted authentic Yuandong cuisine for quite some time. So this opportunity was indeed a good one.
"Did Mr. Xuande also not have lunch?" Asked Zhengyi. "I mean, before you stopped at the restaurant."
"Apparently not. But I don't know for sure. I came back to Mr. Xuande's friend's warehouse at half-past one in the afternoon."
"Is this really camel meat?" Jingkang's eyes looked somewhat doubtful. In Yuandong, such dishes were usually made from camel meat.
Zhengyi laughed. "The taste of camel meat is very similar to beef. Only the fiber is coarser. Also, the smell is much different. I'm sure it's camel meat."
Suddenly, the phone rings!
The three of them simultaneously stopped eating.
It's only three o'clock! Usually, the kidnappers call us at four.
"Maybe it's the police. Maybe our Huaxiang doesn't connect," said Yixiong.
Zhengyi rose from his chair. He walked over to answer the phone. Yixiong's opinion was quite reasonable. Previously, this also happened. The ringing was a signal from the police for them to turn on the huaxiang. Therefore, Zhengyi waited for a moment before picking up the phone. It was only when the third ring sounded Zhengyi was sure that the caller had indeed intended to talk to them.
"Hello," Zhengyi said.
"Hello," said someone on the other end. "May I know who I spoke to?"
This person is so weird!
"Excuse me, who are you looking for?"
"Look, Sir! I found a wallet. In this wallet, there is this telephone number. So I tried to call this number."
"Please wait a moment, Sir. Please don't hang up yet. I will give this phone call to my friend," Zhengyi said.
"What is it?" Yixiong got up from the chair and approached Zhengyi.
"Someone found a wallet. Our home phone number is in the wallet."

Yixiong immediately took the receiver from Zhengyi's hand.
"Good afternoon, Sir! My name is Ximen Yixiong. I am a resident of this house. Can you tell me more in detail?"
Yixiong then listened seriously to the man's explanation. Occasionally, he would frown.
"I am very grateful that you are willing to take your precious time to contact us. But right now we have other very important business. So if you are willing, please save the item first. If you have little time, you can hand it over to the nearest police station. If you're willing, please give us a number we can call. I'll talk to some of my friends here first. I'll call you tonight."
Jingkang grabbed a piece of paper and a pen that was on the dining table. He immediately gave it to Yixiong.
"What is your number, Sir? Please repeat one more time." Yixiong copied the phone number he heard.
"Okay, Sir! We'll contact you later," said Yixiong.
After putting down the receiver, Yixiong returned to the dining room. He sat down again. Zhengyi has also continued their interrupted lunch.
"What's the matter, Sir?" Jingkang asked.
"The person who called earlier found a wallet. There was no identification card or anything in it to show who the wallet belonged to. Only a small amount of money and our phone number. The person called to return the wallet."
If something like this had happened on other days, maybe we would have taken it for granted. But this is happening right now, right when we're having trouble like this! It's hard not to suspect that this has something to do with the problems we're having.
"Whose wallet is that, Sir?" Jingkang asked.
"I can't say for sure yet," Yixiong said.
"I think it's possible that the wallet belonged to Mr. Duanmu," said Jingkang.
"It's possible that it was Dage's dropped wallet. But that guy found it far away from here. Besides, it would be weird if there was only cash there. Things that disappear faster in a dropped purse are money, not other documents."
Yixiong ate at a faster tempo than before. He seemed to want to focus on other things as quickly as possible.
"But that's not necessarily Dage's wallet. Yesterday we found Shinnshiow's pen. So it could be Shinnshiow's." Zhengyi expressed his suspicions. Just like Yixiong, he also devoured.
Turned out he wasn't the only one doing this. When he saw Jingkang, Zhengyi realized that the young man was also speeding up his eating. Perhaps seeing Yixiong and Zhengyi hasten their way of eating, Jingkang also did the same. The young man seemed to try to adjust his eating rhythm to that of the two hosts who were currently sitting at the table with him. Zhengyi gave a thumb up inside. Zhengyi always tried hard to please others.
"On second thought." Yixiong still didn't stop talking. "There's also a possibility that the wallet doesn't belong to either of them. Miss Lüqiu also has the telephone number of this house in her wallet. I heard about it from Dage. People we know might have our phone number in their wallet. One of them may have lost the wallet"
Talking while eating was certainly not a healthy thing. But in such a situation, Zhengyi could understand that. After Zhengyi thought further. That's not unusual. During this time, they also often ate while chatting. Zhengyi wondered why earlier it seemed as if he had forgotten their bad habits.
"You have to look at the wallet first. Maybe after that, you will recognize whose wallet it is." Jingkang, who had almost finished eating, put forward his opinion.
Yixiong nodded several times while continuing to stuff food into his mouth. Like Jingkang, he had almost finished eating.
"I think we'll just have to wait until the others come home. Now let's finish our delayed lunch first," said Zhengyi. Among the three of them, the leftover food on his plate was the most.
The three of them then continued to eat their afternoon meal. While eating, Zhengyi's mind was filled with various conjectures. For about two minutes after that, there was silence. The three of them seemed to be competing to spend food quickly. They no longer try to enjoy the delicious food. Jingkang was the youngest person. So, his physical condition was in his prime, his energy was still intact. There was very little food left on his plate. An instant later, there was no food left on the young man's plate.
Zhengyi smiled. He also did not want to lose. For the last two minutes, Zhengyi had been desperately speeding up the tempo of his meal. Now there was less left on his plate than Yixiong had on his plate. Just as Zhengyi put the last bite into his mouth, he looked up because he heard something. There was the sound of a car stopping in front of the house.
"Someone is coming," Yixiong said.
