September 15, 1990
"Michaaeeellll! Hurry up already!" An antsy Y/n complained anxiously, not wanting to wait in their booze-smelling house anymore. The smell alone made her stomach bubble with nausea, though she would never tell Michael. He knew.
"Calm down, I'm here" Michael basically appeared behind her out of thin air. "WAH! You could've said something sooner" she stunned. "We gotta leave now! Before anyone else gets to the swings before us!" "I'm sure someone's already there" "Party pooper"
Y/n opened the door and was greeted with a string gust of autumn wind. The kind when the warm weather is about to turn crisp. Her small hand grabbed Michael's sleeve and tugged him along. The park wasn't too far from Michael's house. Only seven blocks away.
"You can let go of me now" He said, secretly not wanting her to actually let go. Sadly, she did to his dismay. "Come on come on come on! You walk too slow" she hopped up and down, propelling herself forward. "We're only five blocks away..."
"Hey hey I have an idea, let's race!" Michael looked at her slightly annoyed of how persistent she was. "My camera Is in my bag, I don't want it breaking" "Camera scamera, let's race"
The boy rolled his eyes "fine" Y/n grinned and got in an Olympic sprint position just to be extra. While Michael just stood, waiting for a countdown. "Three, two, one, GO!' Y/n catapulted forward, almost leaving a gust of wind behind her while Michael lightly jogged behind. They reached the park in no time, Y/n victorious in her little competition. "I win" she mischievously smiled in Michael's face once he reached her.
"Sure" his lips curled into a smile for a slight moment before he looked past Y/n at the playground. "The swings are empty" her head snapped around at 900 miles an hour and gasped dramatically. "Let's go!" She grabbed his sleeve again an tugged him, making his heart flutter for a tender second and followed her. She gleefully sat on the swing, waiting for Michael to sit next to her. And he did.
"Let's see who can swing the highest" Y/n piped to Michael. "What's with you and competition today?" He did somewhat of a deadpan glare at her. "I dunno, maybe there'll be a swinging sport in the future" Michael rolled his eyes at her in defeat. Y/n started swinging her legs back and forth to build up momentum. He did the same, except less vigorously since he didn't care about winning.

Soon they swung higher and higher, Y/n obviously being in the lead
Michael watched her almost in slow motion, taking in every detail of her gleeful smile, her hair swinging in all directions. The young boy ,who only knew her for a month and a half, was absolutely smitten. These emotions were so confusing to him. Especially since he'd never felt this was about anyone else. All the women and girls he's met, he never saw them as pretty or cute. Besides Y/n.
"I'm gonna jump" Michael snapped out of his daze "What?" "I said I'm gonna jump!" she yelled. Michael slightly panicked "Wait-"
"Here I go!" She let go of the swings chains and flew towards the grass, trying to stick the landing. But instead she fell backwards onto her butt. Michael slammed his feet into the ground and ran over to her. "Y/n?" She stayed silent "Are you okay?" He kneeled next to the girl and put his hand on her shoulder. Her chest began to rumble, Michael had a hint a fear in his heart, thinking she was about to cry.
"BAHAHAHAHAAAAA" Her head swung back as she howled with laughter. He was taken aback by her reaction to almost getting her legs broken. But he quickly forgot about it "You're weird". Y/n choked down her laughter to respond "Not as weird as you" she lightly punched his arm. To see her so happy, he wanted to cherish this moment. "Can I take a picture?" He asked timidly "Sure" she chuckled. He rummaged through his bag and got out his Polaroid camera.
He held it up to his eye, finger hovering over the button. She smiled and said into her teeth "cheeeeeseee". The camera clicked, signaling the photo was taken. Leaning on Michael, her legs wobbled as she tried to stand up.
"Hey guess what?"
"What?"
"My butt hurts"

The room was only lit by two fluorescent lamps, ever so slightly flickering. Michael watched multiple people pass the window with the blinds not shut all the way. He had been sitting there for fifteen minutes, wondering why he was there to begin with. Why couldn't he go home, see Y/n and his mother again? Ronnie and Judith weren't there anymore...his goals were complete. Instead he was stuck in this dry and empty room.

It had been two weeks since he was detained and taken in for questioning. He was forced to wear an oversized innmate jumpsuit. His hands cuffed.
The doorknob jiggled before eventually turning all the way. Two officers and his mother entered the room, one of them holding paperwork. "Good Afternoon Michael" one of the officers said, trying to be friendly. "Oh my baby" Deborah wrapped her arms around Michael, smothering him with forhead kisses. "Mrs.Myers, please take a seat next to Michael" the other officer said, clearly more standoff-ish then his counterpart. She obliged and the other two sat across from them. "Now, let's get started."
Michael glared down at the table, their conversation was nothing of interest to him. It went on for about an hour, he could've sworn he was dozing off at this point.
"-The Smiths Grove Sanitarium is at maximum capacity, and all the hospitals have rejected a request for an impatient stay at the Hospital. However if we keep him detained here for a while he should be able to join the Sanitarium in let's say.... four months atleast?" "Four months? That's the best you have? Why did the hospitals reject him, he needs just as much help as anyone"
"Because they saw his case file, the investigation is still ongoing from what we can see"
"If the investigation is still ongoing then why does he have to stay at a fucking looney house?!"
The room went silent at the mothers rage.
"We looked through the evidence Dr. Samuel Loomis had"
Her bottom lip quivered at his shocking statement.
"Dead animal photos, a rotting cat in his backpack, a dead father, getting into fights" One of the officers admitted. "That's just the tip of the iceberg, all evidence points to Michael. The state itself is wound around how we're going to convict a ten year old."
Deborahs' eyes welled up with tears as she glanced at her son. "Do we really have to discuss this infront of him?"
The two officers looked at eachother the back at the distressed mom. "The conversation was lead astray, apologies. But Michael will remain in custody here as far as the state is concerned"
Michael stared at the Polaroid in his jumpsuit. It was the only thing he had left of Y/n. Who knows when he'd be able to see her again.
"What's that in your pocket, boy?" One of the officers said, making the other jump. Michael slowly looked up, staring through his eyebrows. "Don't make me repeat myself" he slowly walked over to Michael. "Honey, just show him what you have" Deborah pleaded, on the verge of having a meltdown. Michael shook his head.
"I'll find out myself then" his hand reached for Michael. "That's not necessary-" his peer stated cautiously. The officers fingers were inches away from his pocket, and it seemed like Michael was going to do nothing. That was until he grabbed his index and middle finger.
The room swarmed with panic "You're resisting, let go of my fingers or I'll have to use force" he attempted to pull his fingers out of Michael's iron grip.
Michael snapped his fingers forward and the officer screamed. He fell backwards and scooted away from Michael hurriedly, and the other officer ran to his aid "Damnit Rodney" . Hoisting him up, he gave one last look in Michael's direction before opening dragging his equal towards the door and yelled for help.
Deborah stood in utter shock. Not staying anything, afraid to look at her son. Multiple cops rushed into the room and didn't waste any time grabbing Michael and shoving him through the door, carrying him back to his holding cell.
