《Poems》Snow

it's been a long time

since I've seen so much snow

in December

now it's almost up to my knees

trams run late

and buses don't come

freezing waiting at the stop

trekking through unswept sidewalks

park paths covered in white death

glittering in fractures of millions of stars

fallen from the sky

to get stumped on

turned into slush

ripped from their glory

stuck on the earth

people struck marvelling

at a thing so pure

out of a childhood memory

images buried at the back of mind

brought forward

seemingly long-forgotten and lost

now awakened

in the presence

of a winter miracle

the urge to lie down

and pretend to be an angel

to try and leave an imprint

in the sky

to belong to the stars

what a children's dream

behind simplicity hides beauty

children's mind a wonderland

perhaps the world

is ready to get better

at least for a while

while the stars are here

how strange yet delightful

when we feel like aliens

on our own planet

and I am left wondering

do children feel like aliens

when surrounded by adults

dulling their senses

making them accomodate

lose their spark

complete gradual assimilation

until everyone is the same

searching for their stolen innocence

and sense of wonder

being able to find beauty

even in the mundane

not broken down by society

impossible expectations

never to be met

searching and searching

forgetting to look inwards

cursed to be plain

till the fresh snow falls again

opening doors to nostalgia

why don't we take a walk

down the memory lane
