《Crossing The Lands》41] - [Space Ring]

"What's wrong? Is it so hard to grasp? You take space, and turn it inside out... I can't really make it more simple than this..."
"Master... how do you do that then?" Guizou looked at his stunned disciple, ready to learn the hard ways and intricate methods, and said. "Just do it."
Very insightful...
"So, once space is turned inside out, it will still have an origin zone where it was done. This area can be dragged, though it is a bit scary when you know about it, and this zone is often channeled from an object. Here it is this colorless gem almost too small to notice. The space inside out is, as you can imagine, not influenced by regular space and is like a pocket on the other side of reality. But it can be influenced by other ones. So if someone with a space ring comes near you, depending on the size of the storage inside, and therefore the pocket's size, it might collide. At best there is some movement, at worst it pops and blows up in your hand."
"There are different ways it can crumble, but just expect the worse each time for safety." Wu Tian slowly processed the information, a bit lost. He did not even understand how space worked, let alone using it as such.
"For now, all you have to do is channel Qi inside while pressing the gem onto the item and let the array engraved inside do the work. I'll just say that you shouldn't expect a space ring to be cheap. Especially since nearly all of them, if not all of them, are made in the Fairy Land and sold to the richest dynasties, clans, sects, kingdoms, empires, and such of the Mortal Land for an absurd price. Also, most of the ones sold here are pretty defective. Well, considered subpar compared to the ones sold in the Fairy Land." Let's just hope the mutilation safety is on...
Wu Tian directly pressed the earlier words. "Master, is this one defective?" Guizou sent spiritual energy in the ring, probing it with some difficulty. "Around ten squared meters of storage... it is defective. If it isn't big enough to accommodate a decent house, it is defective. If it isn't big enough to hold a mountain, it is sold to lower cultivation bases. It's a short explanation of the system. The more it can hold, the better valued. Safety is also important, but you can't do much about it. The new craze I reckon was the use of an alternate, completely new space labelled as premium where less space rings would collide."

"Because once you're in a busy street in the Fairy Land, be prepared to hold your space ring or space storage artifact carefully. You will feel a pull and push force from everywhere at once. Depending on the quality too, you might have your space ring explode or be thrown into a chaotic mess. It's just very hard to make space rings resilient inside. Arrays are sometimes used, but even then... just don't bring a space ring from here to the Fairy Land without expecting problems. The Fairy Land has strict regulations on space storage artifacts. Mainly to avoid explosions every ten seconds on busy streets and densely populated areas."
"By the way, you might really want to change the space ring in the Fairy Land, if you can make it, because the edges are covered with a very thin and flexible Blank Silver Metal sheet. There are many reasons why it is bad. Just remember that space rings, once their spaces collide, can sometimes merge."
Wu Tian immediately understood the problem. "Does that mean the ring might diminish in size after a collision? Sorry, a merge?" Guizou nodded solemnly. "Indeed! Being so flexible, you might not hold the space well enough. The material itself barely passes the standard. Most likely a counterfeit made by a blacklisted refiner."
"Master, can you forge space rings?" Since his master was all so great, could he also create masterpieces as such? To which Guizou nodded once again. "I can... well, could. I'm not an expert in this area. My array mastery is my second strong suit, right after alchemy. But my artifact refinery is truly lacking. I know some barebone basics, but nothing worth mentioning in front of true refiners. I could probably jam an array into a random ring and see how it goes. It might explode on me, but maybe it would work."
Talking some more as they grabbed from the shelves, Wu Tian's Qi would trigger the array near the gem and automatically suck an item into it. A probing later, Guizou suddenly frowned. "Wait, how are you going to retrieve them? I could help you do it, but..." Stroking his chin, the old master could only sigh with a shake of the head. "Tell me when you want to get something from the ring. I just realized you need an Eight Stars cultivation base or a very elaborate... artifact... Never mind, the chances of finding one are too low for now. Basically, without an Eight Stars cultivation, your Spiritual Sense will not bloom, making it nearly impossible to retrieve what you want from the ring."

Maybe that's why the ring is even in this place to begin with... Now it's ours though...
"Hey! Don't forget the shelf!" Pointing at a wooden shelf a couple meters high they just emptied, Guizou snapped. Wu Tian frowned deeply, confused to say the least. "Why do we need the shelf?" Guizou suddenly felt young again. Nostalgic.
"Because you can?? You can sell it! Now that you have a space ring, especially in this barren Mortal Land, you have to gain the proper mindset! Be a hoarder! You see something, you keep it! You don't have enough space? You throw away the worst item in your possession until it fits!"
"After some time, your space ring will be filled with nothing but incredibly valuable treasures!"
A bit of bickering later, a big wooden shelf was sucked into the ring along a vortex of distorted space. Having not seen clearly before due to the stolen items' sizes, Wu Tian could much better see the shelf warp into a very thin elongated wooden stick. The closer to the ring, the thinner.
He wanted to ask about it, but instead questioned something else. "Master... can we put a space ring inside a space ring?" Guizou almost gave the man a silent glare. "Do. Not. Put. A. Space. Ring. Inside. Another! You hear me kid?! Can't believe I forgot to tell you... could have ended in a disaster... Turning space inside out means that anything that gets into the ring will be put into the inside out pocket. The entry point of this sort of sack is the catalyst and gate of this phenomenon. If you put something too big inside, the pocket might expand and rarely tear. It depends on how well the entry point holds. In general, just so you know, not a single item is capable of handling it. This is also why flexible walls are a big problem. The arrays on your ring are still decent, and have a safety net for this. If it is clearly too big, it will be rejected."
"Just... don't even try. Alright kiddo? Don't even think about it. The best case is one of them explodes, the worst outcome is much... it has been theorized I will say, and the expected result is not pretty!"
Wu Tian nodded with a firm gaze. "Never put a space ring into another! Noted!" Guizou could finally relax again. "Good!" This kid is going to blow up the ring one way or another, I swear... this kid's curiosity might doom him.
Stealing pills, ingredients and artifacts of all kinds from the shelves, also stolen, for some hoarding reason, Wu Tian's space ring was being filled very fast. It was almost full in fact. "Alright kiddo, take that shelf in." Trying to suck it into the ring, it was suddenly pushed back and toppled over. "Oh." Guizou directly used his spiritual energy and forcefully extracted the dozen shelves. "Alright, for now they don't hold that much value. If there is enough space, we'll keep the metallic ones. Definitely a good seller!"
Wu Tian suddenly raised his head. "Master, if I kill someone and leave behind an item because it lacks space, won't I be recognized?" Guizou nearly let his laugh escape from his visible grin. "Seriously kid? You come to the scene, see a mangled dead body covered in blood and a metallic shelf just standing there. And then you think to yourself, oh! Must have been Wu Tian, the kid from the Wu Clan over there! Come on you idiot, be reasonable... As long as you don't flaunt your items around, nobody will be the wiser. In fact, the Sky Sovereign Sect could become a suspect in this dumb scenario."
Can't this kid think for more than one second before asking stupid questions? Aiz, the future is bleak...
Widening his eyes, Guizou rushed out of his thoughts, pointing at the next shelf. "Kid! Eat those pills! Now!" Grabbing a white jade pill bottle, Wu Tian raised his brows as he uncapped it. His movement made the pills move around, causing soft vibrations. "Smells... refreshing." Guizou smacked his face. "Of course they do! Those are damn Life Prolonging Pills you fucking idiot! Just eat them now! Don't waste time!" Widening his eyes as well, Wu Tian directly chugged the bottle of round pills. He could not see the color, having only smelled it, before clutching his throat as he let the jade bottle fall and roll onto the ground. "Huck! Ma...ster... rrrhelp!!" Are you... Please help me honey, your husband is facing a calamity... I don't think my sanity will hold on for long with this idiot... A flick of spiritual energy later, Wu Tian could breath again, the three pills not stuck in his throat anymore.
"You chocked on three pills... I don't know whether to congratulate your achievement or not..."
"Just continue looting..." About to return inside the pendant, Guizou decided against it. He did not wish for Wu Tian to wrongly touch an item and cause a problem.
"We're almost done at least..." Hearing this sigh, Wu Tian felt embarrassed.

8 125Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.
